    Had an ahah moment yesterday on this topic, about having the ability to reset my zipline point with a redirect. Unfortunately, this was after i had the top slip out of the crotch and free fall 😢.
    Luckily, it was at our shop and i jumped on the opportunity to try a new technique. Wish i had seen this a couple of days ago 😂😂😂
    Thanks Reg, your knowledge is truly valued.

    Great work. Your side comment about redirected zip lines sharing the load is so crucial for beginners in zip-lining to digest. Especially in crowns with thinner branch structure. The redirect decreases the load in the original tie in point and permits you to send larger loads - or any load more safely- great to share ideas and experience via the content you create. All the best...

      Erlend Greulich Frontier Big Wood Climber true, but it still depends on the rope angles and vectors, that dictates the forces your applying. Definitely easy for beginners to compound the forces that’s their working with instead of spreading the load in an appropriate manor. Alllll situational

    Reg Great video and yes you are right about making up a batch of zip line specific carabiners. I have a group of 25 zip line slings with carabiners that are made up from bulk nylon tubular webbing and have different colors so some of the longer ones are one color, medium ones are of a different color and short ones a third color. I find that having 25 is very useful in doing larger firs and redwoods since using up the entire 25 about 3 times usually gets you right up to the top of a good sized tree. The weight is not bad and it is nice to be able to just keep on going a full 25 limbs before having to bring the bunch back up. I have a separate shorter loop with it's own clip that all the zip line rigging slings clip onto and I instruct my groundsman to make sure that he puts all the clips on facing the same way that way when they are pulled back up to me it is smooth going doing the next 25 limbs.

    Comment on older Video's - I have watched them all and this is were my Journey with Mr Coates began a few years back, through a common place name in the title of one of the video's which was my home town ! it was great to see the Camera's first used before CZcams ! and now how Reg has embraced the Gopro style Cameras and now even drones . I feel so lucky that I tapped into this resource and wealth of knowledge . This catalog of Video's have provided in Hindsight I'm sure Reg had no idea were it would end up , but it's worth every hour he's spent on it. if you have the time they are worth your time too watch .

    Hello Reg, I agree about having a dedicated Zip-Speed line kit ready to go and your comments about Augusts' MB SL kit as a time saver. I see some sewn prusik loops added to his kit for expanding its utility in rigging beyond SL, I am refering to your recent video "Multi Sling Rigging Explained" which is awesome. Anyway it would be keen. Also, I want to congratulate you for over a decade of Tree-Man Prowess here on the tube. Great explanations, I agree that zip lining uses a lot of the same concepts as SRT. Finding a good high tie in, redirect as you move throughout the tree, using good line angles and understanding the different forces created as you use these redirects and change angles. I haven’t utilized this enough but plan to in the future, once again thanks Reg I value your time and knowledge. Looking forward to the next video!

    A dedicated zipline kit makes perfect sense, going back to economy of man power there are its rumoured some local authority arb units in north west uk where the notion of a zipline or redirect is boardering on witchcraft, much better to just throw 3 or 4 extra men on the deck running around like maniacs, fortunately to balance it out some council post lunch lunch breaks are only interupted by the need to go home to family , i guess its "slings" and roundabouts. Its a different ball game really, thats why i enjoy Regs vids, getting to see the bigger picture. Not that im bitter or anything, i mean i like working in burger king, its a real change of scenery, sometimes i might look out through the drive through window and spot a chappy up a tree, and reminisce, "that used to be me up there, what a c#*!..., sorry madam, which soft drink did you order"

    Nice video! I appreciate the explanations along with the action. I like to have a block at the top for the low bottom branches to be lowered straight down then start choking the running end off wherever I am at for speed lining as I get higher up the canopy if it makes sense, otherwise an a maple like that I prefer traditional rigging as they are super light to drag but a pain in the ass to rotate on the ground. In every situation my goal is to have the butt end of the brush facing the chipper. I am also a big fan of doing the rail slide, where you don't need slings and just hook the branch down the line on it's way down using it's own crotches. This is especially handy with smaller brush.

    • @Recoates
      @Recoates  Před 5 lety

      No worries mate. Thanks for your insight. In this instance, asking a single groundworker to lower, maneuver and drag all the brush to the chipper, then process it, would've been too slow on the whole. As it was, we were done and gone in a few hours. Only a handful of brush landed facing the wrong way. No raking nor filling tarps with shatter. Logs all cut to size.

    Come on Reg. This is a speedline. The difference of course is that a zip line gives horizontal traverse. Yes there is an advantage to high rigging points if one wants the piece to move over an obstruction. Hate the new monologues.... maybe just show proper technique described in proper terms

      What a silly post, Jonathan. A zipline is on an incline (look up the definition), otherwise the load would not travel if the line was horizontal. The word speedline is for cunts who like making special names up for tree work. Aside from that, if you look for the meaning of speeding on the net for example, it says fuck all in relation to tree work. A high rigging point is ONLY relative to the distance from the tree to the ground anchor. If the ground anchor is only a short distance away from the tree, the higher the rigging point the less support the line gives to steer and elevate limbs, not to mention increase the ground impact as the line angle steepens. A steep line angle gives the advantage of less loading on the anchors, but not much else.
