When using a cardioid mic, have curtains or something sound-absorbent behind the sound source, because that is the direction the mic will pick up reverb from.
The problem is the situation. If your room isn't treated it's probably an apartment so you probably can't be super loud with your source which means the preamp gain has to be turned up, which will introduce more problems. For my guitar amp to be at a neighbour friendly volume, my sm7 and sm57's invariably pick up my guitar sound, meaning the acoustic sound of me hitting strings.

isn't a kind of a myth - that dynamic picks up more ambience? I mean if a LDC has the same cardiod polar pattern, and both are gained the same..... LDC is probably more high end, which makes ambiance more hearable. But technically, they are the same no?
I mean it's a dynamic mic. One of the whole points of dynamic mics is that they sound good in most environments.

Dynamic Mics tend to have a much higher cardio polar pattern and in live recording striations they are a far more popular choice
