Why I practice yoga + lift weights!!

  • Having tried many different forms of exercise through the years, the two that continue to compliment each other are yoga and weight lifting. And no, I don’t mean you have to lift heavy weights either.
    Let me explain..
    By improving my flexibility and strength, I can reduce the risk of injuries and joint pain but they will also give me a better range of motion. Why is that important in life? Well…if you have kids, grandkids, etc you can participate in activities with them, you can pick them up easily, etc. It can be as simple as comfortably getting out of your car. If you drop something, you can easily pick it back up. It’s the little things in life that you may not realize are holding you back from living your life to your full potential.
    Because I see it as a privilege to be able to move my body.
    So as long as I can move, I will.
    And mentally, these two can provide a sense of vulnerability or freedom. Whatever I need that day, I can release some emotion through movement. I can mentally relax by focusing on the present moment. But the best part is it can improve cognitive skills, like memory and learning.
    I share this because I know how difficult it can be to stay on top of movement in general.
