i forgot how heart wrenching this cover was. gah! i love the cure, i've been a fan for decades and i've heard some really bad covers of their songs. this is not one of them. they interpreted it in their own way, which i respect. converge is amazing.
Converge is my favorite band, but I started out listening to bands like The Cure, and lemee tell you something. Converge ain't an easy band to get into. But that doesn't make them bad. They're kinetic, and violent, and have truely AMAZING songwriting, musicianship and technical abilities. Jacob Bannon is a huge fan of The Cure.
LetsGetHighOnMorris Yeah, agree with you on Converge being pretty inaccessible but my God are they worth it. One of the greatest bands ever as far as I'm concerned.
There is a band that Jacob Bannon has recently done the album art for called Frail Body. This band screams almost identically to the way Jacob Bannon's vocals are in this song. I just listened to this and it's awesome to see how we get from The Cure to a newer band like Frail Body
Oh, I miss the kiss of treachery The shameless kiss of vanity The soft and the black and the velvety Up tight against the side of me And mouth and eyes and heart all bleed And run in thickening streams of greed As bit by bit it starts the need To just let go my party piece I miss the kiss of treachery The aching kiss before I feed The stench of a love for a younger meat And the sound that it makes when it cuts in deep The holding up on bended knees The addiction of duplicities As bit by bit it starts the need To just let go my party piece But I never said I would stay to the end So I leave you with babies and hoping for frequency Screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy Screaming me over and over and over I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery Stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery Songs about happiness murmured in dreams When we both of us knew how the ending would be So it's all come back round to breaking apart again Breaking apart like I'm made up of glass again Making it up behind my back again Holding my breath for the fear of sleep again Holding it up behind my head again Cut in deep to the heart of the bone again Round and round and round and it's coming apart again Over and over and over And now that I know that I'm breaking to pieces I'll pull out my heart and I'll feed it to anyone I'm crying for sympathy, crocodiles cry For the love of the crowd And the three cheers from everyone Dropping through sky Through the glass of the roof Through the roof of your mouth Through the mouth of your eye Through the eye of the needle It's easier for me to get closer to Heaven Than ever feel whole again But I never said I would stay to the end I knew I would leave you and fame isn't everything Screaming like this in the hope of sincerity Screaming it's over and over and over I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery Stains on the carpet and stains on the memory Songs about happiness murmured in dreams When we both of us knew how the end always is How the end always is How the end always is How the end always is How the end always is How the end always is
converge is one of the most respected bands to come out of the metal/hardcore scene in the last 20 years. I can see how some Cure fans might not dig Converge but do not dismiss them as some generic, flash-in-the-pan. I always thought Converge went way out of their comfort zone on this track and did a very good job.
Said it before and i'll say it again. I'd prefer to hear someone scream with a crackling, rasping, fucked up voice that means it, than a perfectly honed yell that has no weight of truth or emotion behind it. Converge fucking rule.
This specific cover might be one of my favorite songs ever. If my band wrote that song I'd be like "yo Converge, this is your song now" . The original is still awesome though of course.
@Dynamitethedrummer So go listen to The Cure play it... This is a cover by Converge remember... the Hardcore band. If they left it as it was, there'd be no point covering it. Regard music as art, everyone has their own interpretation of it. You know? omfg, haha
Metalcore is not my thing at all, but this is one hell of a cover. As far as I am concerned covers should provide a different take on the original, a twist, or offer something new totally. I love The Cure but I would sooner take this as a cover version than how dreadful a cover of 'World In My Eyes' by Depeche Mode that The Cure did.
Converge is metalcore in the way that Judas Priest is speed metal. So, the label can apply, but their sound evolved too early in the genre's lifespan for their inclusion to be uncontroversial. They're much closer to proto-metalcore like Rorschach than As I Lay Dying is what I'm saying.
This is one of the bands that pioneered that "cliche". I realize that knowing that probably isn't going to alter your opinion of the way it sounds, but I felt compelled to correct you because it bugs me that you've lumped them in a category with their imitators. With that said, you might enjoy the cover they do of "Clean" by Depeche Mode. There's no screaming in that one.
Wrong, it did happen. And it happened years ago. For Converge to cover anything similar to their own style (which is hard to define in the first place) wouldn't be a challenge, or even interesting to say the least. As for your recommendations...a Rollins cover, or "sweedish black metal" [sic] just tells me that you don't know much about Converge.
I loved the instrumentals in this cover. You guys are obvious talented and I can appreciate that. You're vocalist also sounds talented as well, however I had a hard time hearing the dude. Albeit I have been to Afghanistan a few times now, been near a few explosions. So my hearing isn't all that good. Am I the only one here?
I love both bands and i love this cover but sometimes this is too dark for me to listen to. I really only listen to dark music but this is too much sometimes.
Dear Converge. Your band is great. I think if you explored this sound further, now, you could do very interesting things with it. No need for the gratuitous double-kick part these days, of course.
I love Converge and always have. They play the best and most alive shows I've seen. But I must say, When covering a song from The Cure.... The screaming can fuck off.
Remember cure fans; your just a fucking fan and remember converge fans; you are too This is not your art. Stop judging and cover it yourself Me personally i wouldnt want a cover i did to sound like the original, and who said that was the fucking point anyway? Shut yo mouths and navigate away from the page if a converge cover bothers you. Its rare they even cover nuff said Btw i got my nose broken this weekend at a converge show and i couldnt be happier. Great results!
Not knowing anything about converge doesn't bother me at all. It's a shit cover. My friends dragged me to enough of their shows to know I will never listen to them. I hope I never hear another shitty cure cover again.
No. Some parts were okay but if anyone says this is better than the original, you are crazy. I don't doubt that you are good musicians, and it shows, but do not scream, like 'screamo', in a Cure song. Okay.
Holy shit, this sounds like Cats fucking to a bad guitar riff that sounds nothing like the cure. Robert Smith is rolling over in his grave and he's not even dead yet.
The music was good, and though the vocals should have been turned up in the beginning, the song was well done at first. Then came the screaming. I'm sorry, screaming can work well in a song, but it is WAY out of place here. This cover is disappointing.
This should be secret bonus song at the end of Jane Doe
i forgot how heart wrenching this cover was. gah! i love the cure, i've been a fan for decades and i've heard some really bad covers of their songs. this is not one of them. they interpreted it in their own way, which i respect. converge is amazing.

Have you heard The Cure's cover of jane doe though?
i wish this was real
Make it real, please.
No but I heard Kenny G’s cover of Jane Doe.
Insane.
Oh my goodness I need this to continue living
Give this huma a raise! Funny stuff
This band's been helping me through some fucking dark, rough times, man.
converge has helped us all through the worst, really. i remember when the lowest common denominator was all i listened to for weeks on end lmfao
going through a divorce with this song
please remind me where i want to go.
this song broke my mind.
Oh, I miss the kiss of treachery
The shameless kiss of vanity
The soft and the black and the velvety
Up tight against the side of me
And mouth and eyes and heart all bleed
And run in thickening streams of greed
As bit by bit it starts the need
To just let go my party piece
I miss the kiss of treachery
The aching kiss before I feed
The stench of a love for a younger meat
And the sound that it makes when it cuts in deep
The holding up on bended knees
The addiction of duplicities
As bit by bit it starts the need
To just let go my party piece
But I never said I would stay to the end
So I leave you with babies and hoping for frequency
Screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy
Screaming me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both of us knew how the ending would be
So it's all come back round to breaking apart again
Breaking apart like I'm made up of glass again
Making it up behind my back again
Holding my breath for the fear of sleep again
Holding it up behind my head again
Cut in deep to the heart of the bone again
Round and round and round and it's coming apart again
Over and over and over
And now that I know that I'm breaking to pieces
I'll pull out my heart and I'll feed it to anyone
I'm crying for sympathy, crocodiles cry
For the love of the crowd
And the three cheers from everyone
Dropping through sky
Through the glass of the roof
Through the roof of your mouth
Through the mouth of your eye
Through the eye of the needle
It's easier for me to get closer to Heaven
Than ever feel whole again
But I never said I would stay to the end
I knew I would leave you and fame isn't everything
Screaming like this in the hope of sincerity
Screaming it's over and over and over
I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and stains on the memory
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both of us knew how the end always is
How the end always is
How the end always is
How the end always is
How the end always is
How the end always is
yes!!!

I love The Cure and this is probably the best Cure cover I've ever heard.
as good as a cure cover can humanly be. overcoming the potency of the original is very difficult. I love this.
This is both nostalgic and tragic in the best ways
Two of the bands I love the most!!! ♡
Said it before and i'll say it again. I'd prefer to hear someone scream with a crackling, rasping, fucked up voice that means it, than a perfectly honed yell that has no weight of truth or emotion behind it. Converge fucking rule.
feel like crap day in and day out, and today I was reminded of this beautiful song.
thank you so much, Converge, for this amazing and sensual cover.
re-discovered this old gem. so heavy and apocalyptic, such sorrow bleeding through
This is beautiful.
i know right?
The vocals at 4 sound like Stephen Brodsky of cave-in, who was, very briefly, the bassist for converge. So it's probably him
Most definitely Steve.
I"ve falling deeper in love with Converge because of this
i cant get enough of this song!
oh my god they set it off with this one 💐
both version are fucking beautiful. both very original bands
This specific cover might be one of my favorite songs ever. If my band wrote that song I'd be like "yo Converge, this is your song now" . The original is still awesome though of course.
This is the dumbest comment I’ve ever read. Although it’s a good cover, this would never be their song 😂😂
this is incredible. two unbelievable bands. converge have really challenged themselves here. excellent effort!!!!!!!!
I LOVE this
What a cover
This is the one I was looking for
When it kicks in at 3.00! amazing
Freaking intense..
HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT. This kills me everythime.
Agreed.
Best cover ever.
本家のThe Cureとはまた違う美しさがありますね
僕はこっちも大好きです
This is a great cover.
♥!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this Cover♥
I feel the utmost respect for the cure
@Dynamitethedrummer
So go listen to The Cure play it...

JACOB BANNOB = THE BEST
PaVeL BaRReRa Jacob Banana
oh my god
I think my life just changed
My life changed forever after I was introduced to this song.
+figurehead1971 They also covered a Depeche Mode song, Clean.
+figurehead1971 Metalcore is in general trash marketed to angsty teens but there are a few exceptions to the rule and this band has some good albums
Metalcore is not what you 've listened to here..Fortunately!
Converge is totally a metalcore band, they just happen to be amazing
Converge is metalcore in the way that Judas Priest is speed metal. So, the label can apply, but their sound evolved too early in the genre's lifespan for their inclusion to be uncontroversial. They're much closer to proto-metalcore like Rorschach than As I Lay Dying is what I'm saying.
@Talrose Vocals turned up in Converge songs? Nope.
This is one of the bands that pioneered that "cliche". I realize that knowing that probably isn't going to alter your opinion of the way it sounds, but I felt compelled to correct you because it bugs me that you've lumped them in a category with their imitators.

So Fucking Nice ! Best Cover of all time !
It is Brodsky. Cave In also contributed Plain Song to the compilation this track originally appears on.
I love both bands and both versions. You people are so closed minded!
@angelhair0 kurt wasn't in cave in. stephen brodsky was in both converge and cave in. so it's probably him.
awesome reply....Like
Best.
Damn yall had some pretty embarassing takes in like 2012
Wrong, it did happen. And it happened years ago. For Converge to cover anything similar to their own style (which is hard to define in the first place) wouldn't be a challenge, or even interesting to say the least.

converge does no wrong
For one shining moment,my hopes shot through the ceiling.
"I'm alive ... I'm .. dead.."

Hate to break it to you but this was released in 1999 and Converge have released 5 full lengths since this EP came out.
Lmao
@geraldsquareblack if you haven't already, check out their cover of clean by depeche mode...
Wish I could hear the vocals... other than that sounds great.
that's what the world said the day you were born
Yes, it is.
anyone know if it is Bannon singing starting at 4:08 or is it Nate or Kurt? never heard JB sing like that if it is him...
I don’t know at all sorry, but someone in another comment said Stephen Brodsky… so maybe him?
@@andi5906 cool, thanks :)
@@andi5906 only took you 12 years
@@trismus_ better late than never lol

no comments? fuckin good song, when converge was still good and had two guitarists
6 months since the last comment. shame
Yee yee
Hey still here in 2020 listening to converge and the cure!
I love both bands and i love this cover but sometimes this is too dark for me to listen to. I really only listen to dark music but this is too much sometimes.
@doobopsheewaa This can't be Bannon
I come here to hurt.
Dear Converge. Your band is great. I think if you explored this sound further, now, you could do very interesting things with it. No need for the gratuitous double-kick part these days, of course.
Always a need for that, stop talking crazy 😋
The double kick part is amazing and recalls industrial music to me here
No,it's disintegrating.
Hmm, it's not THAT bad. "Disintegration" (by The Cure) could be my favourite song ever and I love it to death.
>= l
how dare you scream.
You mad?
i think this piece of shit became a master piece when they play it
I love Converge and always have. They play the best and most alive shows I've seen. But I must say, When covering a song from The Cure.... The screaming can fuck off.
:'(

ruined as soon as Bannon starts yelling
how disappointing ....
Crap!
Not knowing anything about converge doesn't bother me at all. It's a shit cover. My friends dragged me to enough of their shows to know I will never listen to them. I hope I never hear another shitty cure cover again.
Started well then - well let's just say it "Disintegrated". Stick with the original and best - especially the live version form "Festival"
Them to cover a Rollins band song or maybe a sweedish black metal band. It might be their take on the cure but sreaming just isn't happening man.
disintegration is my favourite song...
i don't like this cover...
Not good, I'm sorry, not sorry
It sounded good till that cliche, unoriginal screaming came in. What a joke........
This is horrible and should be permanently deleted and the original tracks burned.
go listen to easy music
@@Tionyd lucky that guy isn’t in charge of history, what a terrible reaction to something just bc he can’t appreciate it.
This is HORRIBLE

The music was good, and though the vocals should have been turned up in the beginning, the song was well done at first. Then came the screaming. I'm sorry, screaming can work well in a song, but it is WAY out of place here. This cover is disappointing.
