My answer to the thumbnail’s question is that we are so caught up with the patterns of our own mind we think that Ni has a deeper meaning than it is
My confident answer to what Ni is, means that it is the function that detects abstract patterns from stimulus that exudes deeper meaning
I like your walking to the statue explanation you made in another video. It’s going inward towards a conclusion/singularity you can’t quite explain. Nor is it tangible to the outside world but it’s there.
Smells are notoriously difficult to categorize too, and here the issue seems to be brain organization, whereby the olfactory nerves lead directly towards emotion- and memory-related parts of the brain, but don't go near the speech areas. One might speculate that intuition, being concerned with unconscious pattern recognition, performs a global and radar-like scan for specific thematic content that bypasses the speech centers since the result of successful Ni interrogation is internal understanding which does not require verbal communication to function.
Your explanation makes sense, and I think it is probably the best way to characterize Ni. Glad you did this one, Ren. More on this topic would be great!✌️

insightful connection between smelling & Ni. it echoes an observation i made about the character tanjiro in the popular anime demon slayer. and how he comes to know about a thing by its "smell" (intuitive perception of it) like how he "smells" natures of demons in his proximity prior to even engaging with them.
and i believe somewhere else in fiction i found another character who "smelled" that something was to happen (prescience).
it maybe that "smell" anecdotally maybe one of the ways we can allude to none ni doms or none ni auxliaries about one of the ways the function manifests or indicates itself.
Light is a memory trigger for me. The way sunlight falls or clouds shade. I've wondered if perhaps it isn't tied to something I read at some time in my life. A imaginative memory... I used to think those feelings were tied to some ancestral memory --something long past but not first hand experiences. I have no idea. They are very transient. Hope you feel better soon.
In most cases, I'm collecting essences of things and making sense of them within my own frame of reference. I described to some that Ni, for me, is like using the figurative aspects of the senses. Subliminal messages was a great example. Oftentimes, I find that when people use doublespeak, most people are literally hearing the message at face value when for me, I actually discern 3 different messages (the literal, the implied, and then their combination). It leaves an impression that says much about the spirit of the individual - where they are at in terms of psyche and consciousness. Throughout my life, various people have innately viewed me as being a "wise" person or having some sort of psychological benefit when I am/was present. But yes, it is quite difficult to explain introspective Ni perceptions to people especially when their society teaches them to focus on the externally tangible while simultaneously draining them of their own psyche. I also think that the dominant Ni user grows up comprehending that psychic energy is everywhere but is keenly aware of its operation in individuals.

Agreed. I think that most of our lives we were bombarded with psychic energy, long before we're able to put the concept or knowledge of what Ni does into our own minds. I also agree that Ni is an introspective yet outer focusing function. I believe therefore without the other person being adept at, or willing to put this into practice that explaining what's going on with the function is mostly futile.

I think of it as goal-oriented insight. It lacks the width of possibilities than Ne has but trades that width for depth, which is about depth of meaning, of finding the one best way. This is why I think it’s the most complex and important function. It is the most aligned with human progress (understanding and desire).
A couple of concepts regarding Ni are Spirituality and Mutation.
Spirituality - Having the increased Ni makes us more open to the spirit realm and borderline psychic abilities, while some are more connected to the Psychic abilities which are connected to genetics, that explains why not all INFJ/INTJ have Psychic ability, but we are more accessible to be conduits for the spirit realm, by conduits, I mean that we can be the messenger for other people, it is a weird situation and trying to discern WHO the message is for takes time to learn.
Mutation - Could the INFJs/INTJs be the next step in evolution? Are we on the journey to becoming telepathic/telekinetic as a race? Or is it a special modification of our DNA to become conduits of truth for humanity?
Here is a really 'out of the ballpark' question - Are we specifically modified by an alien race to be their go-between before they initiate their plans, whatever they may be?
I would like to think that we are the next step in evolution, with the added advantage of having connections to the spirit realm. If we are not careful, it can be overwhelming.
Sorry for being the party pooper, but that is really disconnected from reality. Such things would have manifested already if they were real, considering the exponential growth of humanity just over thousands of years. Signs of evolution would have been detected already, but not even psychoanalysis was able to discover such evidence. Synchronicity is something that we perceive normally as part of our human condition, its just that individuals treat it differently. It's all these connections, that leads to so many conspiracy theories out there. There's no point in a theory, if you can't see its effects at all. That's a personal perspective for a realist.
The rhetoric of high Ni users and evolution is, I’m sorry to say, stupid. The world needs all types.
@@juice_lime5114 not all things can be seen, I personally know that I am connected to the Spiritual Realm and am a messenger for other people and it started 19 years before learning I was INFJ, so I had plenty of time to learn of my abilities and perfect the Moving Barrier which protects me from other people's energies.
At the time it started for me, there was an article in the Readers Digest about personality differences which involved phrases like Phlegmatic, Sanguine, Choleric and Melencholy, how they fit together was absolutely confusing.
My interaction with the Spiritual realm has born me physical scars to prove it, I have also advanced in levels of Empathy (Cleocognizant, Physical and Animal), sadly I do not have a green thumb.
My comment about mutation is theoretical at best, but is it the way that humanity is going? With the advancements of the human brain, would it not seem more logical to theorise that our intellect is advancing compared to the past? Of course it is all Sci-Fi thinking, but could that not be the way the human race is heading?
I personally speculate that, at least, the INFJ, as far as I seem to understand, is actually a more 'primitive' type than other types in terms of evolution. However, because clearly Western civilization now NEEDS more primitivity- we THINK we do not NEED primitivity, thereby abandoning part of our human nature; humans have always looked for meaning, for divinity, for eternal truth, humans have always sought refuge in religion, in spirituality which still happens around the globe, think of India, China Japan, in South-America- and CHANGING your DNA is something that unfolds across thousands of years; we can 'change' DNA 1.5% each 100000 years- thus we can not simply THINK we are not religious or spiritual or something. From this point of view however, the INFJ in WESTERN CULTURE indeed IS an important step in the evolution of mankind.
@@juice_lime5114 , I did 4 different personality tests and all came up as INFJ-T, I even changed my emotional state on each to see if there was any change.
As you had noticed about my videos, only 2 were of the INFJ variety. Other people get into the details about personality types, the only 1 that was specific that I was trying to convey was the Truth of the INFJ Dark Side, my own experience of that occured in 2004 when there was just me versus 7 others, and they were not being nice at all. The other INFJ video was made from a question of how many INFJ channels are there, so I made it as a bit of light humour.
None of my videos were 'textbook' of any kind, just from my own experiences and they were for education purposes to help others have tools that they could use, to not only protect themselves but to also grow.
I don’t know how I know…but I know. Yeah.

_By the signs/manifestations of the unconscious, the life/the universe/the unconscious collective, guide and help the INFJ & INTJ to the right path/direction for them. Because we are the guides for other people, we understand all, but who understand, help, guide us ? No one or very few.
_We notice the talents in other persons and we encourage them, validate them, we put people up (few people do this, most put people down)
INFJ say : "You are a good person, you doing good."
INTJ say : "You do a great job, you are doing great."
Somewhere when the INTJ say "Trust yourself", it may means : trust the unconscious/the life/the universe/your intuition. Intuition never lie.
I live with the synchronicity/signs/messages, they keep me happy bring me hope, courage, I know the 2 or 3 next big events, which will happen to me in the future. In the meantime i enjoy the present and do what i love.
I can't really connect with the concret world (Inferior Se), and hardly with people (Fe blindspot), but I connect very well with all the other living being and the unconscious (Ni). The Ni Te language is not the most appreciated and believed by the majority. I instant connect with the N dom, and easily with other intuitives, which is already good, but not enough to have a real deep connection and full understanding.
For us INFJ INTJ, (and certains other ENTP ENFP) the unconscious is conscious. For the majority, it's still unconscious.
I wonder if experiencing the synchronicity and oneness is the ultimate level of consciousness (of having conscious of the unconscious).
_Synchronicity wouldn't be proof that life, the universe, psychic/quantum/physic energy, and therefore all living beings are programmed (in the unconscious), work together and influence each other, that everything is connected.
That everything works as planned : Many times I have the intuition that I'm in the right place at the right time.
The book "The untethered soul", suggest that we a re just a conscious who experience.
Maybe the only thing we can do with the time is having more and more conscious of the unconscious.

In very short : It's mainly pattern recognition (or concept/idea recognition if we want)

Hi Ren, in the Ecstatic Soul (I can't remember exactly where but) I believe you say that in looping (if it goes long enough) a person can develop temporary hypocondria. But I really didn't understand. What kind of hypocondria symptoms or manifestations do you mean - or just what do you mean? P.S. this might make a good video topic as well. Can you please let me know. :)
I can explain it. Its pattern forming from your subconscious, most of the time in a metaphorical way. You can dig deeper within your Ni and then see where it pointed you to.
Hello! I am not sure I entirely followed the path of reasoning you laid out, however, I would love to know how (if at all) this perception relates to the INFJ ability to feel what another person is feeling. My INFJ s/o has a hard time being around people, especially large groups because he picks up all their internal attitudes, and it affects him; he can change from amiable and carefree almost instantly into angry, aggressive, chaotic, because of this. Of course, he can’t explain it. I would love to be able to create some way in my own mind of following his journey. Right now, I just know it does indeed affect him, see some signs of the switch, and give him permission (and much respect) to abandon me (😅) from wherever we are at the moment.

You are doing a resonable thing. What you described there though, is the action of his Fe. Take note, emotional instability can be caused by stress from the environment, and we sometimes don't realise it until we see the reactions of others. But anyways, you did the right thing to give him space for venting things out.

This could also be connected to mirror neurons that all humans have. You basically described the process because they fire up if we walk into a room and a person is highly distressed. We would become distressed because that person is distressed or if they are extremely happy then we would be extremely happy too. Emotional states seem to be more or less contagious to certain types. It could be that INFJs have stronger ones because we are perceiving dominants (we lead with Ni - constantly observing) and not a judging one but also due to the arrangement of the 4 functions that we primarily operate through.
@@timothyc.8666 interestingly, the subject of mirror neurons has come up during research for my linguistic anthropology paper. They are invoked in the newest theories of the evolution of language in humans. They are talked about through a very biological lens, of course, but it is a fascinating addition to the debate.

I may be naive but I feel like I am able to explain Ni pretty precise. I think Ni presents the INFJ his paths to new understanding. Moreover, I think there are a lot of INFJs who do not use Ni appropriately for me myself used Ni not wisely up til a couple of months ago. Namely, I think that in addition to the paths to new understanding, knowledge, which Ni can provide the INFJ with, Ni CAN provide pretty clear examples IF it is used appropriate. I think the INFJ can use his Ni wisely whenever he realizes that he in fact does not like providing examples or scientific evidence to his arguments, then Ni WILL provide the INFJ with a path that allows him to provide arguments, examples, evidence finally. In fact, this means that the INFJ must come in terms with his tertairy and therefore less conscious, less likened, less used function, which is so to say thinking; providing examples, evidence, arguments IS thinking merely. For the INFJ ultimately EMBODIES Ni since it is his conscious function and not Ti. In this manner, from this place of Ni he will be able to provide Ni-navigated examples, arguments, evidence.
Ofcourse, providing examples, arguments, evidence is also being navigated by the sensing function (Si and/ or Se). However, Ni and Ti are so intricately linked together that for an INFJ to come up with an Se- (and/ or Si-) navigated example or argument he needs to get there by means of Ni and Ti.
Proof- valid arguments, evidence and examples; those are merely facts originating from the external world which are available to all of us subjects- ultimately lies in EXPERIENCE, not in intellectual CONCEPTS, THEORIES, HYPTOHESES etc.

@@wegotonelove The INFJ needs to come in terms with that those things are not to be explained. Consequently, he will understand that the best 'explanation' of it yet is that Ni provides THE INFJ his paths to new understanding.
Intuition takes forever to develop. Combine that with INTJs Ti Critic. Until I took an IQ test, I was ready for my results to come out borderline arrested. Think this is another reason why INJs tend to age in reverse
Relate to this so much. My dad always says Im wasting my best years, I say we do not share the same interests, I have very little friends and do not enjoy partying. I sacrifice the now for future and look forward to it very much, unlike the people just now reaching mid life crisis, I went through that at 21. 😂
