Lyrics:
Rise up, rise up
Oh, rise and share your power
Rise up, rise up
We're dancing to the sun
Rise up, rise up
In clear-eyed celebration
Rise up, rise up
The spirit's time has come
We want loving, want laughter again
We want heartbeat, want madness to end
We want dancing, want to run in the streets
We want freedom to live in its peace
We want power, want to make it okay
Want to be singing at the end of the day
Children to breathe a new light
We want freedom to love who we please
Rise up, rise up
Oh, rise and share your power
Rise up, rise up
Everybody's dancing to the sun
Rise up, rise up
It's time for celebration
Rise up, rise up
The spirit's time has come
Talking 'bout the right time to be working for peace
Wanting all the tensions in the world to ease
We want to love, run wild in the streets
We want to be free, we want to be free
Talking about a new way, talking about changing our names
Talking about building a land of our dreams
This tightrope's got to learn how to bend
Makin' new plans, we're gonna start it again
Rise up, rise up
Oh, rise and share your power
Rise up, rise up
Everybody's dancing to the sun
Rise up, rise up
In clear-eyed celebration
Rise up, rise up
The spirit's time has come
Rise up now
It's time, it's time, it's time
Rise up, rise up
Oh, rise and share your power
Rise up, rise up
We're dancing to the sun
Rise up, rise up
It's time for celebration
Rise up, rise up
Everybody's time has come
Spirit's time has come
Spirit's time has come
Rise up, rise up
Oh, rise and share your power
Rise up, rise up
Oh, dancing to the sun
Rise up, rise up
It's time for celebration
Rise up, rise up
The spirit's time has come
Woman's time has come
Spirit's time has come
Rise up - Hudba
Toronto in the 80's. Back then you had to grab a Now Magazine or look at posters tacked on poles as you wondered through Kensington Market to find out which concert was playing where. Or listen to CHUM or CFNY. We managed to get by quite well without internet and smart phones. Seems like the simpler times were the best times.
Amen!!! Very well said!!! Cheers from Canada Toronto Ontario! I’m from the west end near the Etobicoke border. I miss so much about the ‘80’s but really the ‘60’s - ‘2000’s have been great times for music and movies but a lot of other things as well!
@@lillymarchand4970 The 60's and onward? I'm a resident of Northern Ontario, but I have memories of Ontario Place from my childhood. But later on when I'd go to Toronto in the 80's I'd be in my '83 Celica GT with a Clarion cassette deck, 6 speakers and 2 amps. Many memories, but one thing that's ingrained in my mind is heading in on the 400 in the evening, seeing the CN Tower in the distance, tuned into CFNY and hearing the intro to Subdivision suddenly booming through my speakers. To be young again.
Cheers my friend.
That's what all old people say when reminiscing about their salad days. But I remember the rampant racism, misogyny, and extreme homophobia of Canada in the 1980s. It wasn't all rosy.
@@jaumais01 lol and? like it does not happen? money itself discriminates what are u saying, a put down, I remember>3
Still an excellent tune for the morning! Great job guys! And good post cabby, dont forget play da record in the 90's to find out where all the raves were. Call the number on sat night to get the location or head down to nathan phillip to catch the shuttle bus. Toronto in the 90's....ahhhhh 2 much fun 🚬😎👍
Lorraine Segato's powerful voice is timeless
40 years gone by now. Still an inspirational song. Also a great song.
Made me gay! Or was it too much Bud Light over the years 😢😅
This is one the the greatest "Positivity Anthems" of All-Time.
Loved it for decades... ;-)
And one of the very few 80's hits that WAS positive not dreary and suicidal. I loved this song and almost forgot about it!
never fails to fill me up with hope, jubilation and redemption
I started listening to music in 1983 when I was 4 / 5 years old, but it's taken until now for me to discover this particular song. Fantastic. There weren't many Canadian bands in the UK charts at that time. Men Without Hats and Martha & the Muffins were two exceptions to that.
This song is my time machine. I live abroad and this takes me back in time to Toronto (80's) especially summer time. The sounds, the feel everything youthful. It is also inspiring to get up and do your best everyday.
Takes me back to my childhood days.sounds like a real summer song
Rise Up, by The Parachute Club, is my favourite song, by far! I’m a Gen Zeder and to me, this song is instrumentally inspiring and lyrically universal. Their lyrics represent the goal to continuously work towards a peaceful and together world. This song reminds me that we are getting to a world of unlimited and mutual understanding, where differences don’t affect interactions!
unless they are into underage children, trafficking, or abuse. Then its war
I remember when this video was made! Still gives me chills?
Damm I miss the 80’s 😢
Damn I miss being so young. lol
SO proud to perform with Julie Masi now out here in the okanagan... AND around the world... such a talent..
I was actually in that parade way back. Let me tell you, half of us were on psychedelics that day. Not a care in the world. What a time to be alive.
Psychedelics? What is that some kinda drug?
@@bboyStuntZ Are you serious, dude?
@@Fretless99 yea and I just looked it up. So I was right. I don't do drugs so that's why I didn't know
@@bboyStuntZ No worries, brother. I hope you are well...please take care of yourself and your people
were you the 10 year old kid ?
Toronto back in the day!
I see my old neighbourhood..awesome!
...welcome back...!
Much better than today!
Toronto’s skyline may have changed but this song’s sentiment remains.
Remember way back when my roomate and I.. in ottawa decided to go to this little basement bar that always had live music. They weren't even known then but were playing and I remember thinking how amazing they were. I think it was the following year when their first album was released
That voice control...magic to the ears🇨🇦💥🇨🇦💥🇨🇦
At 2:27 - that guy loves Supertramp! This British prog-rock act were actually quite popular in Canada for a time beginning with the 1974 album Crime of the Century. They actually managed to score two Canadian #1 hits, first with "The Logical Song" in 1979 and then a live version of "Dreamer" in 1980.
I am old, but got this in a 45 vinyl!
I've always liked this song. 2023 now and I'm 55 still listening. This song wasn't played very much on MTV in the 80's but I caught it.
Such a happy song 😁
Aww the 80's..we were too busy having fun to politically squabble..nice without Trump
Song is needed more today!
I have a memory of being around 5 , waking up, sun was shining and this song was playing.
nobody should ever search "Rise up Rise up" and have _anything_ but this song show up
Love the video. No custom guitars in the band. A Strat, Tele and Precision Bass...all Fender classics!
This song keeps playing in my head. A sign of the times! God I loved Toronto in the 80s. And now I miss it more than ever. Rise Up people!! Enough is enough.
Enough of what?
@@GeoffCK I think some people think this applies to the anti vax rising up lol. Of course this song is about the lgbtq2+ community. Loraine, the singer said so. As well as ideas of world peace and leftist ideals lol. Funny how the anti vax are mostly right wingers against the lgbtq2+ and seem to think this song fits them. The world is crazy.
Is the video in Toronto or Hamilton??
@@mikeuyeda2330 Toronto. Showing a lot of Roy Thompson Hall and First Canadian Place which was one of the tallest buildings in the world when it was built. It was the 6th tallest building in the world and the tallest building in the world outside Chicago and New York when it was built (not counting towers like the CN Tower).
Yaaaasssss!! Love it!
2020 and this song means more today than ever
I think this song has had and will always have the same message, no matter what year.
You'll see a rise up celebration after all this covid is done.
me too Gitmo.life Hi Laurie. :)
Timeless message!
Iñ 2021 whe neeď this to try and bring people together even once the pandemic is ovet this song will s important
My ex husband’s Aunt was in this band and video! Oh the 80’s!
The 80s was simply just the best of times
And 1983 in particular was a fantastic year for music.
'Molly' Meldrum played this on EON FM one morning in 1984. I taped it. Now I fund out who they are.
Toronto lakeshore looks unrecognizable from the 80's
What's do great about CZcams is that I can see videos of stuff like this anytime I want. When this song came out not so much... 🤗
Have always loved this song...now more than ever!
They took it off Spotify (damn you, RCA!), and I am glad to have found it here, for all of the reasons you all have said. I have had this tune in my head since it came out in the 80s, and I need to keep it on a loop at work.
Seriously?! Why is this song not at 35 million views? I thought all Canadians were together during Covid-19?
Only uploaded 2 years ago. Someone else uploaded this way before and it had milllions of views.
I think sometimes the past makes people sad. We didn't appreciate what we had at that moment. Just too young and dumb.
Not very much "rising up" other than the freedom convoy which was demonized, if they played that song while in Ottawa you wouldn't know it the way the "news" covered it...
omg i Love love love this song. it makes me dance and sing and i love the video so powerful
I agree 💝
Great creativity in 80's low budget 😉
@David Scott i am in Manitoba and from here also. and how about you?
@David Scott Manitoba is right in the middle of Canada, above Minnesota
Oh those great days of old Toronto.
So many great memories!!
This was one of my brothers favourite song sadly he passed away last October he was 47 when I hear it it makes me cry
This song makes me happy and sad at the same time. It's such a powerful message and it brings me back to those days and where we were and to today in 2022. People have opened their eyes to acceptance but In some ways it seems we've crawled backwards and the world is still full of hate,.. just look at the hate on social media, racism, bullying, and homophobia the minute people disagree they start being outright mean. When I hear this song or see the video it makes me feel strong and kinda hopeful that we're still moving n the right direction because of messages like this. That's why it's a timeless and amazing song. :)
I agree. This was on my "get through the lockdown" playlist. Very uplifting!

I love this song. I miss the 1980s SO MUCH! College & Clinton - The Dip!
Open sky over King Street, there's no getting that back either.
An older song that has new meaning. Good work and a ground breaking video when videos first came to be.
The meaning then was the same as it is now, man. 👍
This is such a beautiful positive song but it makes me cry because I feel like all those beautiful times are gone
This song means so much for planet earth in 2022. Time to rise up against tyranny. We wish to be free!
HARDEST RIDE OF OUR LIVES ✌🔥

pure 80s energy!
Toronto in the early to mid '80s was an awesome place to live. Especially for a base brat on Canadian Forces Base Downsview fresh from Canadian Forces Base Edmonton in Alberta.

How does this iconic video of an amazing song ... not have millions of views? Very few songs have such a powerful beat. It was brilliant for the period. Thanks for the video.
it probably would if view counts were left alone.
Because it blows
Plain and simple
Because it was only posted 4 years ago. Someone else must have posted and it got millions of views I'm sure.

AWESOME tune! Love it. Still stands the test of time into the 2020s. ❤🎉
I don't know why this is called the Canadian version. If i recall, this is the version they played on MTV (in America).
The American version had different lyrics and a studio setting, but MTV still passed on that version. It was played in clubs though.
I'm 50 and just heard this song for the first time yesterday when I was watching the film "Unfinished Business" (1984).
Can't believe some of the negative comments. The video the song it all expounds positive energy. What the @!$%##*'s wrong with that?
The negative comments are to garner attention, which you just gave them. Well done.

this song was written as an anthem for LGBT liberation, so some people target it for that. That is if they know thats what this is.

Great, great song.
80's music was so amazing, especially early 80's.
This song never got any airplay in Australia for some strange reason. Such a massive song and it never got released in Australia??? :(
this was the most Canadian thing ive seen all day
I found an old cassette playing "Walkman"(not a Walkman brand) and popped in a homemade cassette labeled "P. C. I - Do Not tape over". I couldn't remember what it was about. It was a Parachute Club interview from the radio station C.K.O.C. It was great fun to listen to the songs, and what the thoughts of the time were. I made this tape in 1983 :D
I was probably sitting in my room, waiting for my song to come on so I could tape it. I was definitely hoping the D.J. didn't talk over the start, or cut the ending off, to Rise Up.
This video version brings me back to Canada in the 80's, and the music of my teens. Songs by Canadian artists like Glass Tiger and The Parachute Club, send me back.
