    Hayek had very little training in Mathematical and Econometric Applications of Economics. Nowadays, they wouldn't even allow him to teach economics at any university. Those were different times!

      @SYED ADEEL HUSSAIN What are your talking about, his followers are teaching at universities as we speak. And you don’t need training in math and econometrics to understand economics

      True, it is probably exactly because of this lack of maths and econometrics, why Hayek gained all the insights that he did.

      I think that actual economic theory and the explanation of economic phenomena still have very little to do with advanced mathematics, only the new econometric ans statistical approaches need it in more detail. But I doubt that he was not aquainted with mathematical economics, in Vienna he worked in an institute of business cycle research.
