Mickey Thomas' vocals are under appreciated. He can still belt it out.
Great pipes
.... and he sings just as good live as he does in studio
He certainly doesn't get the plaudits he deserves and much like Brad Delp and John Farnham who had incredible voices.
His range and pitch are immediately recognizable! One of the great voices in music.
@@ibrstellar1080 And don't get me started on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" being credited to Elvin Bishop.
Mickey Thomas never gets mentioned along with Perry, Walsh, Delp, Mercury, Gramm, etc...He most definitely should!!
I would agree that he should be recognized for his vocal range....But.....
None of them holds a candle to Brad Delp....He stands alone.
🎯🎯🎯👍🏻
This and Jane are my favorites.
"No Way Out" (Mickey Thomas lead vocal) is definitely one of their better ones, as is "Runaway" (Marty Balin lead vocals on this 70s version)
Jane and No Way Out are TOPS
Stranger and winds of change also are real good
Same 😊🙏🏻
They did jane already
The reason why it sounds so cool at the end is because it's Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas harmonizing. A good example of the two of them sharing vocals is Winds Of Change
Yes, "Winds of Change" is a must!
Winds of Change or Hyperdrive off of Dragonfly!!
any time those two incredible voices harmonize its heaven on earth!
Also "Stranger"!
Mickey Thomas has always been one of the great unsung vocalists in Rock.
This song is magic. Hearing this on an FM radio laying in my bed at night with nothing but the green glow of the display....magic
Ah, those good old days of lying in bed and letting your local FM rock station take you on an amazing journey.
@@Paulzuzu 😊I agree with you dude
"I'd sit alone and watch your light, my only friend through teenage nights."
This era of the band has this, 'Jane', 'Stranger' and "Winds Of Change" as my FAVORITES!
his name is mickey thomas he was in the elvin bishop group
The natural echo at the end of this song is incredible !!
It's not that Jefferson Starship was ahead of their time with their stadium-rocking late seventies/early eighties sound. It's that they wrote songs that fit right in with whatever era they were in, and this 1981 hit is one of them.
Don't know if you guys caught this in this video. Grace Slick had left the band in '78 to deal with some substance abuse issues. In fact she was asked to leave by Jeff Kantner, she returned in '81. At the end of the video they have the picture of all the guys in the band and then they add her photo. "Find your way back, to her heart"
I think you mean Paul Kantner...who was Slick's husband & father of their only daughter. Love this one..."Jane" is their ultimate tho!!!!
@@Anniearchy oh man. My bad. Yes I did. Not sure where Jeff came from. Senior moment
That’s awesome! I didn’t know that. I love Grace Slick, she is 🔥
One of the reasons why Mickey Thomas was brought into the group was because while Grace was gone he could handle her vocals. After Grace came back they kept Mickey because of his incredible talent. Mickey didn't always get along with the others in the band, the drummer broke Mickey's nose during an altercation.
Mickey was brought in to replace Marty Balin who left for a lot of reasons. Grace left at the same time to deal with her alcohol demons.
One of my all time faves...
"I know it's too late now, but I wish I could go back in time, and get it right, from the start..."
Same.
Grace: STILL BEAUTIFUL at 84!! ...and PAINTS, now!!
She ain't what she used to be, but nobody can deny that she's the hottest 84 year old, ever.
Not
Can’t deny she still has a sharp wit. And those eyes of fire.
I remember when this song came out. I loved it and still do.
"No way out" is another one from this time period. Give it a listen.
I was just about to post the same song! I`ve always loved it!
Not sure if you’ve done it already, but 1978 Jefferson Starship song, “Runaway “ is a vocal masterpiece in my humble opinion 😁
Play Jane next by Jefferson Airplane. Rocking rift
Any song from them in the 70s were FANTASTIC Jane my Favirte
@@brianshertzer1327Marty Balin was Jefferson Starship’s best male singer and a great songwriter!
@@brianshertzer1327 They did Jane already
I'm a big fan of 'Find Your Way Back', but 'Runaway' is my favorite by them. One of the best songs released in a great year -- 1978!
What I find amazing about music (songs) is that still 40+ years later, I can still remember every chord, sound and nuance of a song like this. The music, the vocals, everything. Music is amazing that way!!
Was.
My very first concert was this band. August 1986. Love them.
I won backstage passes to their show in 1986. I got to hang out with Grace Slick, Mickey Thomas and the rest of the band. I can't say that I was a huge fan at that time, but it was definitely a fun evening!
As I recall, Paul Kantor had
fired Grace after an incident in a concert. This song was her return to the band, which fans didn't know until she turned up in the video.
If I remember correctly, Grace said she fired herself, according to her autobiography. Both perspectives might be true!
Check out some more of their songs when Marty Balin was one lead like - runaway, count on me, with your love
I love Runaway. Marty's voice was the best. He was a great painter, as well. Absolutely amazed by his portrait of Garcia. which reminds me, they still need to hear the studio version of The Wheel. Easily the most soulful steel guitar.
Mickey also sang Fooled Around and Fell In Love with Elvin Bishop
I got to see Elvin Bishop with Charlie Musselwhite a couple years ago at the San Diego County Fair. They were great!
Mickey Thomas goes so under appreciated in these reaction videos. He’s there belting out into the stratosphere with his beautiful clear powerful vocals and they’re talking about the bass player. Mickey was never flashy, he made up for it with his voice. He sang in church and you can hear that southern influence.
Jefferson Starship “Modern Times’ album is one of those all time classic albums. Stranger, Save Your Love, Stairway to Cleveland and of course, Find Your Way Back are amazing songs.
Love this song. The history of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and Starship is amazing.
I've been a fan of this band since its Incarnation back in 1965 of the Jefferson Airplane. Amber.. you were very succinct in your observation that this band has always had a futuristic and ahead of its time vibe. Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick each had the ability to blast the stratosphere with their amazing vocal range. I saw this incarnation of the band in concert many times and they were always fabulous and on point. The last time I saw the original members of the band was in the Jefferson Airplane reunion concert tour of 1989. After this tour Grace Slick officially retired. Amber you may enjoy a tune off of the EARTH album called "Love too good". A very Soulful submission by Grace.
An underrated band imo. They've had some of the SF Bay Areas' best musicians in the lineup over a 50 year period.
Love this jam & "Jane" but "Stranger" is my favorite ✌💖☮
100% yes! Stranger is such a good song! My favorite, too!
"Stranger" is my favorite also...
Stranger is definitely my favorite Jefferson Starship song, with this and Jane a close 2nd and 3rd!
@@georgewallerlll496 I actually like Winds of Chage better than Find Your Way Back, but Stranger, Jane, Winds of Change, and Find Your Way Back are my Top 4.
same
I've loved this song since it was released in 1981, I was 14 years old, today I'm 57 and it continues to be one of my favorites.
You gotta hear their song, Stranger. It's from this same album and it's a duet with Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick. It was her return to the band after being gone for a few years.
Thanks for doing this song! JS had a number of great songs in the early '80s, but almost no one reacts to them. "Stranger" is another great track from this era.
Craig Chaquico’s guitar work on “Runaway” from 1978 is 💯🔥🤙🏽😎
Classic! This song was always on rock radio in the 80s and 90s!
JUST like Jane did in the 70s
Yeah! This was a Banger on the radio - Volume UP!
Lead singer Micky Thomas has an amazing voice. He did this song with Elvin Bishop called Fooled Around And Fell In Love. I think you guys would like it. Grace had a nick name called the acid queen cause she regularly took the drug. She was planning to put some under her finger nail and slip it into President Nixons tea but she never did.
You are right to say they are great! The legacy is true! THe music is pure!
I got to see them in 1981 at Busch Gardens Virginia!! They were AWESOME!!!
Always been my favorite Starship song. Treat reaction as always
The great Ansley Dunbar on drums
From Jimi , Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Journey, Starship , Whitesnake and dozens & dozens more.
He’s so damn good. 🎤drop.
Fantastic AND under appreciated drummer.
💯% brother
Just listen to the Journey song “Cookie Duster”.
I’ve attempted but not very well tried to play Cookie Duster without much proficiency. 😂😂
“Find your way Back” I got that
One of my what I call "soul- favorite " songs. Just brings back magical moments!❤😊
All right my babies....Yes‼️‼️‼️ I've seen this band 4 times and Micky solo once. Incredible performances for sure ‼️💯🔥🎤😁👍🏻
Jay & Amber, you'll love Jefferson Starship's "Count On Me" and "Play On Love" !!!!
Jefferson Starship was the best of the 3 iterations of this band IMO.
The two songs I suggested have Marty Balin on lead vocals, who sang "Miracles" which you reacted to.
With your love is their best
Thanks Casey Kasem
Jay & Amber: Your next Jefferson Starship song reaction should be Stranger. You'll love it. It rocks.
This song makes Jefferson Starship sound like the Canadian band Triumph. Two more awesome JS songs are "No Way Out" and "It's Not Enough".
From the same era.. "Stranger", the Official Video, features Grace and Mickey, Craig on lead, Paul Kantner, and everyone jamming together.. Love it!.
"Stranger" from this same album is excellent too.
Mickey Thomas is the vocalist. He's one of the best...
"Find your way back to her Heart". I've always loved this as a rocking song, great vocal, instruments and harmonies. But Ten years ago when I lost my wife and love of my life to cancer, this song became my mantra. Somehow I have to find my way back to her heart, Somehow I have to keep living as the man she loved and I can't give up and let the pain and grief take me from this life too soon. I have to find the strength every day, because the only way back to her is through the life I have left,. I can't let her down. I can only hope my road leads me back to her. Her name was and is Jodi and someday, someway, I will find my way back to her heart.
Their song "Sorry Me, Sorry You" has the best guitar playing on any of their songs, IMHO. It is a banger!
I really like Jefferson Starship. My favorite is “Stranger”. I think y’all would really dig that one. It has a great drum and bass groove.
Thanks for this reaction as well. Great song.
Other great tracks from this era of starship are "stranger" and "winds of change"
Nobody ever mentions the WORLD CLASS GUITARIST 🎸 Craig Chaqico who was with the band for a long time. Amazing guitarist with his own career!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED SINGERS IN CLASSIC ROCK HISTORY 🎤🎼 I PUT HIM IN MY TOP TEN WITH STEVE PERRY, ROBERT PLANT, PAUL ROGERS, FREDDIE MERCURY, LOU GRAMM, DENNIS DEYOUNG RICK EMMITT, TERRY KATH( CHICAGO AND ALSO ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED GUTARISTS) AND RONNIE JAMES DIO.....
"Runaway" & "Count On Me" are two more good ones you haven't done from this era.
Love this band
One of my favorites by Jefferson Starship. Mickey Thomas is amazing on vocals with Grace Slick. Other great songs from this era are “Layin’ It On The Line” and “No Way Out”. You should check both of them out as well.
Their songs, Somebody To Love and Jane, are something. Their song Sarah was an 80's staple, like We Built This City.
I don’t think I have heard this song since it was popular. This is pure gold!
This song was penned by the guy with the double necked guitar, Craig Chaquico. He ventured into smooth jazz & redid this instumentally. Been listening him for years.
I had forgotten about his one. Woo Hoo! Good one. One of my favorites is "I Don't Know Why," which is a "Starship" tune featuring Grace Slick on lead vocals.
Mickey Thomas can sing a razor line! "Jane" showcases a similar performance.
Great song!! Stranger is a must and keep up the great work!!!
It has that happy tune that makes you smile and gets your feet tapping.
I had this pop up in a mix feed lately and I said. "Jefferson Starship? I did not remember that. But I really like this'" I'm 54, but my brother is nine years older. I grew up listening to his music, so know from a lot of classic rock, in addition to 80's, 90's and early 2000's.
Yay! Love Jefferson Starship from this era
Lead singer on this song, Mickey Thomas, sang the lead on 'Fooled Around and Fell in Love' by Elvin Bishop. Think you reacted to that a while back. Great voice!
It’s a freaking jam!
Stranger is another banger from them.
STARSHIP ROCK! 🔥
Mickey Thomas was the lead singer on Fooled Around and Fell In Love by Elvin Bishop!!! He has a great voice and knows how to deliver it!!! Great song!!! Great Legendary Rock Band.
Finally found one of my all time favorites. I bought the 45 as a kid and air guitared the bejesus out of it.....what a treasure.
You two would enjoy Count On Me. Especially Amber.
Saw them in concert 2016 really cool. Heard this but my partner siad i dont remember this but i did. Such a cool song, one of my favorites by them.
🎵I know it's too late now but I wish I could go back in time and start all over somehow and get it right the first time🎵
I absolutely adore this song
It's funny thinking back to seeing Starship in '88 at Riverfest in St. Paul and then almost 20 years later I went to the same location for Taste Of Minnesota and Grace's daughter was singing with her dad for Jefferson Airplane and the music was twenty years older than what I heard in '88. RIP Paul Kantner.
Guys, the quintessential album, in which most of the songs you'll find are simply top of the top, is Red Octopus. Starship just formed at that time (70s) and their initial songs were so melodic and unique. Red Octopus features "Git Fidler" (great instrumental), Fast Buck Freddy, Sweeter than Honey (great unique tune), and more. You gotta listen to that to discover the real JS ...
Mickie Thomas (singer here) was also in Elvin Bishop's band. You did their live version of Fooled Around and Fell in Love. M.Thomas vocals are killer
It's about time you got around to "Find Your Way Back". Next up should be "Stranger" and "Winds of Change".
If you haven't already you should check out "Fading Lady Light", one of my favorites.
Mickey Thomas and that craazzzyy power-high range..Sure did put some extra punch in the band.
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands, they were great
Check out their song “Stranger”! If you liked find your way back, then you will like it too.
Mickey Thomas was lead singer on “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” when he was with Elvin Bishop.
Stranger is a great song!
He was a lead singer for Elvin Bishop band as well. Fooled around and fell in love
The lead singer, Mickey Thomas was lead singer for Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love."
another song by a band you already like that has all the things that you like about this song...heavy bass and great vocals is SAY GOODBY by TRIUMPH.....please please please try that song.......also another banger by jefferson starship is laying it on the line
HAPPY FORTH TO ALL AND THANK YOU VETS
Great band (Mickey Thomas era). Seeing them in concert for the first time in a few months. Can't wait!
My favorite Starship song!
Jefferson Starship - "Stranger"
I saw Thomas perform with Elvin Bishop back in the mid 70's at the Oasis Ballroom in Sacramento. Both Thomas and Slick are great singers and together they are superb. Marty Balin of the airplane was also a great singer.
Mickey Thomas was Elvin Bishop"s vocalist before JS. "Fooled around and fell in love" was the biggest airwaves track he did with Bishop
Forgot how much I LOVED this song till I recently watched "Clerks 3"
There are still a ton of great Jefferson Starship songs for you guys to cover. There is "Love too good", "St. Charles", "Count on me", "Runaway", "Play on Love", "With your love" and two of my favorites "Light the Sky on Fire" and "Ride the Tiger"
I saw this group live once and Mickey Thomas' performance that day was incredible.
Good memories ... 1982, here in Brazil. Great song !
The guitars are the stars of this song.
This is Mickey Thomas who also sang We Built This City.
AWESOME SONG!! " Familiar Stranger" and "No Way Out " are excellent Starship videos too
This group just performed at our 4th July celebration in Warner Robins, Ga.
Mickey and Grace together with this band..... Amazing!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So glad you guys did this one. Mickey Thomas's vocals hit HARD on this one. 🙌🏼😁♥️
