Knowing where and when you can legally carry a concealed firearm can be a confusing issue. Unlike your driver's license, your state-issued concealed carry permit may not be valid in other states - even those that border your home state! Ignorance of local laws is no excuse. If you are caught carrying a concealed firearm, you can face serious legal repercussions including confiscation of your weapon and even jail time.
In this informational video, Concealed Carry Magazine Executive Editor Kevin Michalowski introduces the United States Concealed Carry Associations’ Concealed Carry Reciprocity and State Gun Laws map. This free, interactive resource helps responsibly armed Americans steer clear of potential legal pitfalls when traveling cross-country with their firearms. You can access this crucial information on your favorite mobile device, laptop or home computer. There’s even a free mobile concealed carry reciprocity app for convenient information on the go.

I had a California CCW and used to drive to Idaho to visit family. Wife thought it was funny that I would stop 10- 15 miles short of the Nevada or Oregon Border (depending on how I went) removed the weapon, put it in a locked box in the trunk unloaded and ammo separate. That is until she got pulled over in Southeastern Oregon at 3 AM while I was sleeping. I woke up to a flashlight shining in my face. She had volunteered we had a firearm in the car. The trooper was polite and asked me where it was. I got out of the car under his direction and showed him were it was. He checked it, looked at my CCW and informed me that I was good to go. The wife never said anything about it again.

If you have a valid Missouri CCW permit and enter a Missouri business that prohibits firearms and you're discovered, they can only ask you to leave. Under the same circumstances if you're carrying concealed under Missouri permitless carry law, you can be arrested. That's a big difference and why you should get the permit. Also you get multiple State reciprocity with a valid permit.

That book made it so easy to figure out how to store my firearm while driving and if my permit was accepted by the state I was in, etc. It answered a lot of the common questions you would have from state to state such as, do you have to notify an officer when pulled over, how should the gun be stored, etc. I'd highly recommend this guide to anyone that travels a lot and wants to take their gun with them!

      the word "weapon" has intent,
      Firearm does not.
That type of language can make difference.

I have a list of states with concealed carry reciprocal agreements with my own state of North Carolina. When I do travel by car, I make sure to detour around states such as New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, California, Oregon and Washington.
