    Yeah, more Clip Studio Paint videos, please!
    Do you think there is any difference in the final result between a page you inked digitally and one you inked traditionally?

    • @RichardFriendartist
      @RichardFriendartist  Před rokem +3

      digital is very clean. It rarely gets the look of traditional. Traditional has more depth and seems to breathe a bit more. You'll find digital inking (and inkers or artists) tend to use splatter and lots of texture to try and get the humanity back into the art but it still looks digitally done (and sometimes even more so) so ultimately it will depend on what look you prefer. Both have strengths and their own challenges!

    I interviewed Sal Regla a few months back and he zooms in A LOT. And he's on an iPad. I'd love a "how, when, and why to break up lines" video. When I erase in CSP I just click C and draw with transparency. I love inking demos! I know you have a video about different materials but I'd love to see a more in-depth version of that from which I can develop references for myself. Like "this effect for leather, and this for latex" etc.

    • @RichardFriendartist
      @RichardFriendartist  Před rokem

      I do too (zoom) but this was just dabbling and not really getting into anything very challenging. I will talk about when and why I break up lines...has more to do with the drawing than an inking concept though. and someone else mentioned the "c" and that is a GREAT and super useful shortcut so thanks to both of you for mentioning it. I don't ink or draw digitally now...but I know people use this because of a multitude of reasons so I wanted to make some nice videos on the program because it is great!

    I got a little excited when you started on his arm and it was a hairy arm. Thought I was gonna see a arm hair demo! How long does a piece like this take you to ink?

    • @RichardFriendartist
      @RichardFriendartist  Před rokem +3

      hahaa longer than a youtube video. ;) I think a piece like this would take about 8-11 hours...somewhere around there. It's not that detailed but normally I'd do this traditionally...and that might even be a bit faster for me than digital! Digital gets slow doing certain things where traditional I can blast through it way quicker. Paint bucket is the only big advantage digital has in my opinion over traditional...but that can also be overdone and make things look flat!

    For what it's worth (and that ain't much), I usually size pencils to fit at printed size, 400ppi. If I know it will be printed POD only, then I back it down to 300ppi. I also use Vector Layers because of the _extreme_ editability and output flexibility.

    • @RichardFriendartist
      @RichardFriendartist  Před rokem

      cool, thanks Kevin. One thing about clip studios "vector" is, it is not real vector. It's only vector in clipstudio...it will not export as true vector (or at least it didn't used to) which can be problematic I feel. Each person will definitely find a workflow and process that fits their needs.

  • @AlphaProto

    Thank you for the good advice. It makes me feel like, finding a piece to go and inking.
    In the 1990s I was more of an X-Force comic reader. X-ecutioner song's cross-over was as far as I really went into X-men.
    In the 2000s these were the run of X-men I got when I was curious about the comics. I really liked the hyper stylized characters. They reminded me of Joe Mad.
    I also really like Sabertooth. So seeing him as an X-men again was cool.

    • @RichardFriendartist
      @RichardFriendartist  Před rokem +1

      if you have the program...have some fun and try inking something...lots of people do it just for fun and a hobby...you can also do this in photoshop and procreate and many other drawing apps...as long as there's layers and brushes or pens you should be fine!

    One thing I am confused about in regards to Clip Studio is that one of the features of the software is the ability to make comic panels. These panels are separated allowing the artist to draw behind them (a mask). This is great, but when it comes to inking (and even more so with coloring), it becomes difficult as each panel is on a seperate layer.
    Do you have any thoughts about the panel feature? Should it be used and how do you ink multiple panels without getting lost in layers?

    I really enjoyed watching this video and found it very informative. However, I couldn't help but notice that the CSP interface truly sucks and it looks quite outdated, despite being functionally, it still looks like something from the 90s. I hope to see more CSP videos in the future like this one, thank you for your time Rich!
