Everyone should have the right to make decisions about the end of their lives and no one should be forced to suffer a painful, drawn out, and undignified death when alternatives are available.
Join Polly Toynbee as she leads our discussion with the Assisted Dying Coalition, campaigners at the forefront of the drive to legalise assisted dying across the UK and Crown Dependencies.

Unfortunately I'm only seventy-one and in reasonable health, so I'm really not in condition of terminal state. However, If I were in pain and alone, I most definitely would consider the right to die. I think it is my right. I'm in Australia and am leaving my body to science.
We agree to abortion so we should agree to aged deaths if it's up to the person in question.

While I know this is not the day or time for this subject, however, I would like to put my oar in about the population explosion. It's still going up far too fast and I believe there should be a bill to stop people having too many children. Far too many people are breeding children like rabbits then can't afford to feed them.

the populations increase is slowing down fairly quickly, figures show it's likely to peak at around 10.5 - 11bn (which obviously is too much) however everywhere around the world except for africa is showing a birthrate of less than 2.1.
2.1 is the recognised minimum number of births per couple required in order to maintain a healthy population.

People will cry one way or the other. No, it's always going to be their choice, at least while they're in their own mind. This of course, is another problem. Many elderly are no longer in their own minds, and can't be expected to make such a decision.

Watching from the US. Wondering what does it mean when you say the final stage of the bill process is to go to royal ascent? Is that another approval stage? If so, by whom?
    Best wishes!

the kings office. they give final approval after the bill has passed through parliament and the lords. up until recently most people were under the impression that this process was a rubber stamping only however it has been made known a few years ago that the royal decision could be made with amendments which favour the royal family. for example they are the ony people in britain who do not pay death duties (taxes); who do not pay inheritance tax; are not subject to the laws on race discrimination and many others.

Royal assent is when the King or Queen approves the law at the very end. It's the equivalent of a President or Governor signing a Bill into law.

@@HumanistsUK except the king/ queen can get it amended to suit their requirements.

@@aethellstan That's King's Consent, which happens (without public scrutiny! shocking and wrong!) before the Bill is even seen. Royal Assent is a different process, at the end, when an Act of Parliament is just rubber stamped by the monarch as passed by MPs.

How about people who're just pissed off with living? I don't consider my particularly stupid but I've spent, I don't know how many hours over several months trying to get one of those rotten smart lights that you attach to your computer, just to work the way it should, and I've reached the end of my tether. I've almost thrown my phone through the window a dozen times. It'll be me next.

there will be rules put in place to prevent people doing this just because they have had a bad day etc also in terms of being coerced by others and various other rules.
