Great Horned Owl Snuggling And Cuddling Couple Days Before Leaving Nest

  • This video was made a couple days before Ollie left the nest. Since then, he's been seen flying around the ranch with his momma. He's about 10 weeks old now. He was 5 weeks old in the video. Please read! This owl was FULLY RAISED by it's mom in our barn in 2012! The mom has nested in the barn 7 YEARS IN A ROW! She is used to us coming in the barn to get hay. The mother fully assisted in the successful fledge. In fact, we saw them several times throughout the summer flying around the area of the ranch where the barn is located. Unlike "rescued" owls who starve to death when released, this owl FLOURISHED, along with it's mother.

    He is precious. I saw him and interacted with him for about a week after he fledged. The last time I saw him, he was way up high in a tree. That was 10 days after he fledged. My husband saw him and his mom the other day. She was gliding in an open space from one tree to another. Ollie was behind her, and he said Ollie was flapping quite a bit more...not really gliding yet.

    I'm so jealous i want to pet one so bad. As long as it wont disturb their nature or wild life. They are such amazing creatures.

      @WralthChardiceVideo Před 4 lety +2

      Unless you are raising one from birth its very unlikely that petting them will disturb their wildlife significantly, other than making them perhaps a bit less wary of humans.

    • @tttigggerrr1
      @tttigggerrr1 Před 4 lety +3

      @@WralthChardiceVideo Correct! Why i would never want them as pets. Wildlife is wildlife, they are to be enjoyed to be watched in nature where they belong. And we need to show our love to hem by protecting their habitat.

    Ollie is cute and sweet as always in this video. Now that he's fledged and is flying around with his mother, does he still recognize you?
    He starts trying to nuzzle under your arm at 3:57 because baby birds like to snuggle under their mother's wing, and he thinks your arm is your wing!

    You should put up an "owl cam" when the parents are there so people can see them from egg to hatch to maturity. If you are into farming and/or animals, you may also want to post videos on that too.

      I haven't seen him except for a few weeks after he left the nest. They are territorial so the hen runs them out of her territory. Coyotes and fire ants have diminished their source of food. The hen comes back every year.
