Learn how to stop your period with birth control in this Howcast video.
You call your doctor and you say, "Doc, I'm going on vacation with my boyfriend. How do I prevent my period from coming? I'm in that phase of my cycle where if I take my placebo pills, I'm going to get my period." Well, this is one of my favorite questions to answer because it gives the patient the power of deciding when or when not to have her period. And when you're on birth control pills, you have that option.
When you're taking a conventional birth control pill, one that has 21 days of hormones and 1 week without hormones, what you can do is take the pills continuously. What that means is that you take 21 active pills, and instead of taking the week of placebo pills, throw the pill pack away and start a new pack of pills. When you do that, you can skip your periods and not cause any harm to your body. It does not affect the contraceptive effectiveness of the pills, and it does absolutely no harm to your body.
If you are considering skipping your periods with the birth control pills and you are uncertain of how to do it, call your doctor or your nurse practitioner. We are happy to provide that information for you to make your life easier, and there is nothing wrong with making your life easier when you're on birth control pills.

Please please read this comment before you do this I have been using birth control back to back for almost two years, I started complaining about heavy long cycles when I was 16, they told me to skip them, I said no, I complained for four more years before I finally tried it, at first it was just anoying that it wasn’t working completely, I would spot, but I figured it’s not a big deal, months later I wasn’t just spotting I was bleeding once or twice a month randomly for a day or so, I went it and complained they said we don’t have any information, just keep skipping it, it should regulate by a year and stop comming, that year later it was still happening, they had no info so I gave up and went to my dr, he said just keep skipping, they wer random but at least they wer short.... then this year I bled all of January, and most of February, they still said we don’t know, they ran blood work, and did ultrasounds and Pap smears and a CT scan, I am in perfect health, the advice was as always just keep skipping it, a month later I bled for over 40 days, HEAVY, my iron got low, I lost weight from being in to much pain to eat, or I would vomit from pain, this year I have in total, out of the 9 months on 2019, I have bled 5 of those months, the drs still tell me every time I go, you can skip them, now I am ignoring ALL of them and I will be lucky if I regulate again.

This also happened to me. For some of us (I am so very anemic) the hormones in the birth control pill does the opposite effect on not bleeding. I found this out the hard way. When I took my pills I didn't bleed for maybe a week then it was a heavy blood flow for a month and a half straight. It was torture😩 The doctor told me the same thing they told you and I made the decision to take myself off the pills. I still bled for like 2 weeks after that and thankfully my periods went back to normal every month but I naturally have long heavy periods (lasting for 12 to 14 days with heavy blood flow and clotting). I have fibroids and I did the surgery but unfortunately they came back. It was heaven on earth being able to experience what some would call a "normal" period lasting only about 6 days with little to medium blood flow and barely any clotting. Because my fibroids came back I'm back to averaging about 10 to 12 days every month with heavy blood flow but it beats bleeding a whole month straight😩
