    Awesome mate I came here looking if anyone else had the idea Id be surprised if someone doesn’t make a compact unit idea with an old style grinder perhaps with ceramic coated grinding plates to eliminate oxidation etc I’m sure if someone brought out a small compact unit it would sell very well as you can do mashed potatoes purée the lust is endless of the uses and I swear pasties I’ve had with ground meat from a hand grinder tastes better and more fluffy and and light than most pasties you buy today !!!

    For the long term look into a jaw coupler. They cut down on bearing wear.

    Great video !! Would a lift motor with a speed of 32.8 feet per minute be too fast? Or would that work do you think?
    Thanks !!

      @GrantWyness Před rokem

      Hi Dan, the spindle speed needs to emulate the crank speed of a human - too fast and the casting and coating will wear rapidly. Eyeball your motor and see if you’re in the game…

    Awesome how that nifty drive coupling worked out huh! lol Sweet! One piece of advice, take it or leave it. When you slide the components together you shouldn't have to lift one side or the other for the fit. If you do, make the necessary adjustments with shims so the alignment is as close as possible. It'll save your bearings from premature failure. Could be part of the cause of motor noise under the load also?
    Still, nice work brother!

      Fab comment 👍🏻 You are absolutely right, alignment should without fuss - this prototype was ugly in construction and has now been beautified.

    Any chance the bolt head attached to the worm would snap? Would need a screw extractor just in case.

    • @GrantWyness
      @GrantWyness Před rokem +1

      Hi, the high tensile bolt is stronger than the force from the motor/gearbox shaft. It has been used for years now without issue. You are right tho, if the bolt were to snap it could be fun getting it out…

      @@GrantWyness just gotta make sure I have the bolt strength 😅, you don't want to use those cheap ones and mess up this grinder. Would be perfect if you could install some kind of pedal to switch it on and off. Ill try to do this with my grinder too. Thanks

    Nice job. I'm looking for a mincer at the moment and your videos are swaying me towards this Tre Spade 22, but I'm trying to determine if just the stainless No8 is enough for me. Funny you mentioned it's whitworth as that that is the standard my old Myford lathes use! Wouldn't have to faff as much to make a drive bolt!
    I know it's been 3/4 of year, but some ideas for motorising. If you mount the motor below, you could use pulleys and belt drive it. Would make it easier to dismantle to clean, use less counter-top space and give you some height to drop into a bowl.
    Secondly, get some nice stainless dowels the right size for the mounting holes and if they were tall enough and set deep enough into the mincer's wooden base, the mincer can't twist it's way out. Simple as dropping it on or pulling it off! Any minor give/twist from the torque should be safe due to a pulley and belt.

      Hello, all your suggestions are superb and they would make a very personal grinder to-boot. The 22 is the smallest grinder I would use for home sausage and chorizo making - if you intend to make the odd meatball mince and suchlike the smaller unit would do perfectly. All the best 🍻

      @@GrantWyness I'd like to try my hand at the odd bit of sausage making, but the primary use would probably be burgers. Would the recommendations remain the same?
