I love this duo T~T Jeanet is a calm pure soul while Kictor brings alllll the chaos.
oh yeah the thing with most of their mvs is that they have different storylines in them and they tie in with trailers and teasers for the mvs as well. like back door is a direct sequel to god's menu, but god's menu is the beginning of a new chapter of their story that previously had 2 different timelines that converged. it's a whole thing, it's pretty abstract but really fun to try to figure out. the storyline also directly relates to their journey through the industry which is also really fun cause it gives you an insight into their minds, and they're very much self aware about their position in the industry and they never fail to reference/fictionalise it in some way. the best example from this video that I can give you is back door where they are basically in a museum, a place of artistry which they challenge with their different style, and there is a guard that keeps turning the light off and they're there but they can only be seen by the people who are willing to follow them "through the back door" aka through their artistic journey (so that's why the guard couldn't see them at the end). the skz storyline is very tied to the theme of revolution, through their music, through the way they came to be as a group etc.
about lonely st: yes it's most likely about their struggles/fears. for example lee know (the one who falls at the end) is very afraid of heights. also not only is hyunjin isolated, he is also surrounded by mirrors which might be about his struggles with being seen as nothing but a pretty face (he has talked about this multiple times). gonna talk about some other members as well now that I'm here, so chan running alone is 100% about his years as a trainee and he has talked about feeling hopeless during those times and how "the kids" basically saved him. han has anxiety and is afraid of being abandoned (based on most of the lyrics he writes, check out slump by them btw which is a song written by him), that's all I could figure out from my few watches and bc I'm a fairly new stay

the door dance (where they go under the arms) is based on a traditional korean dance usually performed exclusively by women its really cool that they incorporated it imo, it's called 강강술래 (ganggangsulae or a circle dance) there is a version that is more like a game that kids play that looks very similar to the move skz is doing!
they often mix traditional with modern in their works!

As someone who was a teenager during the New Romantic, New Wave, Punk, and Goth era (late 70s to late 80s), one of the main reasons I adore Stray Kids is that they remind me in spirit of those days. The hair colors, the makeup, the avant-garde clothing, the colorful/dramatic videos, etc. It's like nostalgia but new. _Everyone_ throughout the ages has tended to look good in lipstick, and I am very sad it's not a common thing for some genders in today's mainstream society (assuming one would want to wear makeup, that is). Aside: their video editor is on fire. The edits are *chef's kiss*

80's baby here! I love Stray Kids because of their experimental side so much! It reminds me of so many amazing artists from the 80s and 90s.
We were discussing what k-pop performers we’d want to cover songs in a 30 and up k-pop Facebook group. My choices were mostly new wave/new romantic songs from the 80s and I kept thinking Stray Kids would be the best to cover them. (I.N should totally do a cover of “More than This” by Roxy Music - just sayin’.) Since that was my jam when I was younger, I naturally gravitate to their catalogue in particular.

As a theatre kid myself, loved hearing you say that Back Door gave you those theatre kid vibes! I watched a video where professional dancers reacted to the Back Door choreo, and there are a lot of jazz steps incorporated into the dance, a lot of stuff you would see in musicals--the suzie q, the charleston, the finger wag, their jumps on beat--and even sections where they face off or move in two separate groups, very West Side Story vibes!
And I've noticed for all the Oddinary B-side videos there's gun-to-head imagery. In Venom, we get Lee Know pointing a finger gun at his head in the mirror, and Han grabbing the gun pointed at his head. In Lonely Street, we obviously see Felix point a finger gun at his head and then change to his shadow. And Freeze we see Hyunjin with the russian roulette, and Bang Chan with the gangsters pointing the gun to his head. Lots of scenes with them pointing it at themselves, pointing it at others, and others pointing it at them! I don't know enough to dissect what it all means (maybe just symbolizing power or blame), but it is a theme running throughout. Same with them being tied up in both Venom and Freeze, and the bandage/blindfold in Lonely St. I really do love the thought put into the themes in Oddinary and how consistent they are.

My take on the gun fight scene where no one died. The bullets could be representing what's in your head, dark thoughts. If you have a chance to look at the lyrics, it mentioned iceberg, the road blocks in life? water guns so don't be afraid? Thanks for the fun reactions.
I always took it as SKZ has excellent aim, due to the one shot most seem to not mention, where the bullets collide. I always thought SKZ just shot every bullet the bad guys shot 😅

For Back Door, as a dancer and musical theater performer, I can tell it's heavily inspired by musical theater. I see a lot of Newsies, West Side Story, and Charleston in it! Some of the dance sequences feel lifted right from a musical!
But I understand why. Stray kids give off a found family, rag-tag team kind of vibes just like Newsies and just like the Jets and Sharks in WSS. It makes sense for them to channel those stories and aesthetics

I was waiting for this since the the first one. It really is like like watching myself through my own Stray Kids discover process.
So, about the lore... I really don't recommend fall into that rabbit hole yet because is deeeeep, with multiple universes and beginning from their pre-debut song MV.
And even though Back Door is not about them being discovered (or maybe it is, everything has many meanings with them so we can't really know), it is one of many that speaks about their journey in the industry and how hard it was to make their dreams come true. As you said, Bang Chan was a trainee for seven years and was loosing hope, he've said he was in a very dark place, but meeting the other members saved him. And other members were also in bad places, they'd confess how they sometimes cried because of the stress of being trainees and not knowing if they'd be the next one to be told "we don't think you have what it takes, so get out" every monthly showcase for years, that's why Lonely St. was so emotional and also why they're a 'found family' for each other, because they went through A LOT together from the very beginning, because it was Bang Chan who took the members and present themselves as a group to JYP, instead of being chosen by the company as most of other groups are made. That's also the reason, in my opinion, why SKZ are so unique, because they created themselves, make their own music, create their own lore and the concepts of their MVs, and also be silly and epic and emotional and anything, because the group doesn't have a 'concept', they're just some (a)Stray Kids living together.
And I said it in other comment, but if you want to go for the ships, look for MINSUNG videos; the fandom said "you look like a couple" and they went "well, guess we are married now". Hyunlix also have a lot of content.
I love it how Stay (including me) when we saw Freeze for the first time was- Dang, Skz Mafia era, let's study law so we can break Mafia Skz out when they need it.😂 And Chan- " We are undercover detectives in Freeze" 😂
And because you asked 😆 about the ties, the way I see it is Chan and Binnie being the designated dads are showing care. It's in their nature, especialy Chan.
I mean look at Lee Know's face, tipical- " I am going to be cool and pretend I don't like Chan showing care, even though I like it on the inside smile"🙂
Freeze is one of my Fav tracks in Oddinary, toghether with the 2 unit songs .
I think Kicktor should see their relay dances or some of the random clips if she thought tie touching was something... 👀
the ship name for Bang Chan and Lee Know is MinChan but a lot of people including me see them as the mum and dad of the group with Bang Chan being the dad :)
I think it was in 2 kids room that the other members called Bang Chan and Changbin as the dad and mom of the group.

In my opinion Stray kids is that kpop group that you start biasing one or two boys (normally the more noticiables, Hyunjin and Felix) but in the end, when you know more about themselves, you change your bias or have all the 8 as Bias 🤣🤣🤣 I'm saying it because it was my case, I started with Felix as my bias, but after watching interviews and other videos Han is definitely my ult bias now ❤️❤️❤️
Alice same here. Felix was my bias at first, then watching their reality show videos and their interviews....I just love Han's personality. And I gotta say I love all the guys, but Han is definitely my ult bias.

On the topic of the tie pulling/fixing….that’s not fan service but genuinely just how they are. Read into that what you will lol. And according to some other idols (thank you BM of KARD!!) they really do act the same on and off camera.
Also Chan is shipped with practically everyone lol but I think the most common are ChanLix and MinChan. (Although the other members are now calling Chan and Changbin a married couple so that might change things)
For Lonely St, I don’t know if the MV pulls directly from their experiences, but 3racha tends to be incredibly frank and open with their emotions in lyric writing. And we know that at least some of them have struggled with mental health issues. Chan for instance has often hinted at and sometimes outright stated that he’s dealt with depression, insomnia and those types of thoughts. And they tend to make it a point to address mental health and other difficult subjects in their music

on that note, im not sure how many ships there are in skz (u namedropped the biggest one i see u i see u *wink*), but i think chan DOES get shipped with some other members. im mostly getting this from the kids themselves XD obviously it's not serious and stuff, but in things like "2 kids room" series that they do, especially the newest "season(?)" there were so many ships being thrown around every new episode XDDD

Both Felix and Lee Know we're cut from StrayKids and brought back with the help of Bang Chan who picked the members.
Felix had to learn Korean, Lee Know is there lead dancer followed by Hyunjin and Felix. JYP no longer messes with them but these young men have persevered.

Also Chan has mentioned on VLIVE that without stray kids coming when they did “wouldn’t be here on this Earth” and similar things to that, Han has anxiety that he once had to miss schedules for a period because of (he wrote Secret Secret about his anxiety). And Changbin wrote his SKZ player Streetlight about his battle with mental health, I really recommend watching a lyric video for that!
