US historian says student movement needs a fair hearing

  • “It would be really nice if for once in American history those who are not young would listen to young people”
From the anti-Vietnam War protests to the American civil rights movement, student protests have always been repressed, unpopular and caricatured in recent US history, according to NYU historian Robert Cohen.
Cohen, who specialises in social protests in 20th century Americas, tells TRT World that a “majority of the American public is uncomfortable with student activism” because they raise “uncomfortable questions”.

These are the future generations. They should have a voice - a strong voice, regarding the world they are going to inherit. Is it a world without grace, integrity, compassion and humanity?. At the moment, those are naked and stark occurrence, especially in the Western world.

Each year the U.N. votes on a resolution called, “PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF THE QUESTION OF PALESTINE” Votes indicate who’s unwilling and unreasonable. The votes have been the same for the past 20 years. The whole world on one side and Israel and America on the other:
    1989: 155-3
    1997: 155-2
    2002: 160-4
    2003: 160-6
    2004: 161-7
    2007: 161-7
    2008 :164-7

Do you understand that Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah and others refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist? How do you make peace with people like that?
You may have noticed that both Jordan and Egypt formally recognized the state of Israel and it's right to exist. Look at that, no violence, ever.

    • @INSiGHTOLOGY1
      @INSiGHTOLOGY1 Před 12 dny +3

@anthonymorris5084 In March of 2002, THE ARAB LEAGUE agreed for a 2-state settlement for the I-P conflict with the EXACT same terms as the General Assembly, (under the International Law, you are formally required to recognize Article 2 (The U.N. Charter).
However, THE ARAB LEAGUE went 1 step BEYOND the General Assembly. In addition to Article 2, they proposed:
The right of any member state to live free from threats or use of force
They will normalize relationships with Israel
      Have economic relations
      Trade relations
      Tourism relations
THE VOTE WAS UNANIMOUS! They all voted for the 2-state solution with the June 1967 border.
They continued to reiterate their offer up to 2008.
In 1988 Algiers, then Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (P.L.O) declared a state founded on the Partition Resolution, which called for 2 states, where is the Palestinian State?
The settlers have been systemtically sabotaging the truce and instigating the peace offensive as they don’t want peace. Israel can’t afford for the Palestinians to look reasonable or have a moderate image as this is the biggest problem. This narrative would rob them of their pretexts, alibis, excuses for not negotiating. They must keep instigating violence in order to show the international community that these people can’t be negotiated with.

@@INSiGHTOLOGY1 Please enlighten me, which Arab states openly and publicly declared Israel's right to exist in any of the years you mention? Which Islamic groups have ever recognized the state of Israel or it's right to exist? Have you read the Hamas and Hezbollah charters?
If they truly wanted a two state solution, why didn't the Arabs embrace the partition plan in 1948? Why didn't Hamas commence building a paradise on the Mediterranean when the Israelis left in 2005?
Why does Hezbollah continue to fire rockets into Israel even though the Israelis withdrew from Lebanon? What has Israel ever done to Lebanon? Why does Hezbollah watch Lebanon's economy crumble and it's people suffer while it spends every resource and it's entire existence trying to destroy the state of Israel?
How do you reconcile that there is peace between Jordan, Egypt and Israel?
If Israel allowed Gaza to become a sovereign state, the first thing Hamas would do is build a giant airstrip in the Middle of Gaza and invite the entire Iranian air force to park it's fighter jets and store it's bombs. They'd immediately build a port and import massive amounts of weapons. Your post has no credibility.

Protestors are not being written off, they are owning the media spotlight. The onus is on the protest movement to make it's case eloquently and persuasively, to use communication tactics that engage and stir the heart of potential supporters, and thus to win arguments and change minds. The onus is not on older people or in fact anyone to give the student movement anything.

    Ma sha Allah. Alhamdulillah.
in sha Allah, Muslims in Palestine will retrieve their stolen rights, property, land and freedom
in sha Allah, oppressors, colonials and illegal occupiers, criminals will never succeed in suppressing Palestinians
O Allah, assist Palestinians as their supporter, their protector, their advocate and their rescuer.
O Allah, safeguard the honor of detained Palestinians, protect them from oppression, abuse and injustice.
O Allah, heal the oppressed Palestinians, help them, support them, comfort them
O Allah, bless Palestinian people, recompense them with good
O Allah, grant victory to Palestinians in their fight against murderers, aggressors, oppressors, criminals, illegal occupiers and colonials.
O Allah, crush all evil plots against Palestinian people.
O Allah, help Palestinian people rebuilt their country, rebuild their infrastructure, rebuild their economy
O Allah, help Muslims in Palestine remain steadfast
