It is *not* maple syrup. It is hotcake syrup, made from corn syrup. No maple trees were tapped to produce McDonald's "hotcake" syrup.

It says "Hot Cake Syrup" not because it's code, but because it doesn't actually contain sap from maple trees. Read the ingredients.

The cocoa butter has been removed and replaced with a cheaper fat, like palm oil or vegetable oil and combined with the cocoa solids. Because it doesn't contain the whole cocoa bean contents, it's not legally allowed to be called "chocolate" but it's still not artificially flavored, like "pancake syrup" is.

I am a McDonald's worker so I've worked with this product many times. The Donut Sticks actually do not come with syrup and I haven't had anyone ask for it either. The Donut Sticks are a frozen product which before being deep fried is about 1 1/2 - 2 cm in diameter and probably 1 inch long.
