I was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base 1981-1984. That was a very important time in my life, and I have a lot of great memories. I loved the Biloxi area, the beaches, the night clubs, and the people who lived there. I hope to return for a visit some day.

This morning, October 29th, 2020 I have been watching everything online for updates on the hurricane. My heart breaks for Biloxi every time a hurricane gets anywhere near your town.
Oh how I love Biloxi...born and raised in TN my heart never felt at home until I came to Biloxi on a quick getaway because my husband had a four day leave from Camp Shelby before deploying to Iraq.
Katrina came and I remember sitting up all night praying for Biloxi and her people. The next morning I was watching the news for any information I could find about the damage. They were flying up the coast line and I truly couldn't believe my eyes....It looked like a war zone.....up in the distance I thought I saw it...the one thing I fell in love with the most when I had been there...could it even be possible that it was still there I asked myself...as the helicopter got closer my hope became a reality...THE LIGHTHOUSE STILL STOOD! I sat there crying buckets...
I love your town so much from the first day I stuck my toes in your sand but what wrapped my heart and soul into your town was our trip down there after Katrina. The people that were left there were people of true grit and determination to build their lives back. The stories they told me bonded me to them for life.Im 52 years old and can honestly say that trip to Biloxi changed me.
Im telling you, when I left headed back to Tn I left part of me there.
I now have your lighthouse tattooed on my tight forearm. Its huge and I take pride in telling people all about Biloxi when they compliment it.
I've been back over and over again to your town and would have already moved there if not for my family here. I'd like to think I'm an honorary citizen 😅🤣😂🤣
I'm sick now with Chiari Malformation and Muscular Dystrophy. Im in a wheelchair full time and my body is failing me now so I'm not sure how much longer I can make the eight hour trip down there. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to go on vacation this year because my health has declined so much but my best friend talked me into it. I said, "If this is my last trip to a beach its gotta be Biloxi" ....and so it was...
We made the trip down in August. I stayed at The South Beach Hotel...they take good care of me there... we did all the things I love to do when I'm there and even got to go to your new aquarium! Oh yea, I loveeeeeee the new boardwalk!!! For someone in a wheelchair it felt so nice to be able to be so close to the sand and water...I haven't found that anywhere else...
I'm sorry for my novel...I guess I felt the need to explain that I truly love Biloxi and my heart hurts for all of you this morning...
I'll see you next summer but if God sees fit to take me before then my ashes are going to be scattered there and I'd like to think my spirit will float around doing good amoung your people...
All my love to you Biloxi ❤

I was born and raised on a mountain in Tennessee but Biloxi has always felt like home to me. I was just down there last week for a vacation...I always leave my heart in Biloxi when I head north. Hurricane Sally is headed your way tonight so all my prayers are with Biloxi and her people.
