This video was well done and informative, covering brake fluid replacement for the Highlander and general brake fluid replacement for most vehicles.
Thank you so much, I appreciate you taking the time to comment!
Good job! Thanks!
Thank you!
Just a question, could you have just replace the fluid in the master and not bleed the brakes. And then in a few weeks replaced the fluid again in the master. The idea being you avoid the bleeding process and get the majority of the fluid changed by bleeding the master twice? Great video.
Thank you for taking the time to comment! I have seen a few posts where some people have done it. In my mind, it's always better to go ahead and do the complete flush as there is a significant amount of fluid in the brake lines that needs to be changed, especially since brake fluid absorbs water and just changing out the master fluid would just add a little new fluid to a lot of old fluid that has a higher water content.
@@ThatDadMike Yea good point. The next question. Is your Highalnder an awd? If so have you changed your Differntial and transfer case fluid yet. I saw a couple vidoes online but wasnt the best. Thanks
It is an AWD. I just turned 51k miles so it's on my list to do by year end. When I do, I will definitely take a video and post it on my channel. It's been an excellent SUV, I hope you are liking yours!
@@ThatDadMike Yea its my wifes car and we love it. Looking forward to your future videos.
What volume of fluid is safe to say old fluid is cleared out? I know color is one indicator, but if hose is opaque, would 16 oz be sufficient to consider old fluid from that line is cleared out?
That's a great question, the challenge is it depends on the car. For my Highlander, I think the farthest caliper was probably about 6-8 ounces when I stopped. All 4 calipers took me about 26 ounces.
Question if you get this. What are the brake lines connected to under the hood on the passenger side?
I think you are referring to the antilock braking system module?
@@ThatDadMike OK. Copy that.
My neighbor is having hard to stop issues when it rains and going downhill. He says there is no bite on the brakes. Just had front rotors and brakes done at a shop.
Sounds like they were due to be changed. New pads and rotors make a huge difference. If it is happening after they were serviced, the pads may need to be seated to the rotors with a series of firm brake applications in an open parking lot. I would take it back to the shop if that does not correct it
@ThatDadMike I did go do that with him in the car. We'll see if the problem persists. Thank you. Going to replace rear rotors and pads then see what happens. Pedal travel is definitely too far. Brake Fluid cylinder was full, however.
