- I haven't done a This or That in a while - this time I am considering Xerjoff Starlight and Olfactive Studio Chypre Shot. I initially thought the Xerjoff might be one I could get on board with but the more I sampled the more I wondered if I really needed more of it.

I have not tried Chypre Shot, but I have sort of tried Starlight. It was only in passing, and my nose was tired from smelling a whole bunch of stuff in store. I need to get a sample of it. Get a true idea of what it smells like. Now I'm also interested in smelling this one. Thanks for the introduction!

I haven't smelled either of these fragrances yet. The Chypre Shot sounds more attractive in your description of the two fragrances. The Starlight is popular right now and it's interesting to get your opinion about it. So far I have only tested two Xerjoff fragrances and I have been underwhelmed. I think the high price raises ones expectations toward a fragrance. 😉
The format is nice but I love seeing you in the videos. However, if this format means you can feel less pressure making content, then it is a fine option.

Hey Cherie! I love this kind of video! Haven’t heard of this comparison before and you made me really want to try Chypre Shot. I have the same problem like you with a lot of Xerjoff fragrances in this type of bottle. I like some of them but not fond of the screechiness I experienced. Now I know I’m not the only one 😂
I have a generous sample of Starlight. It is so beautiful. For me, it smells so similar to Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom, which I own and love. ❤
Well Matt uncovered my sample the other week and now he’s obsessed with it so it might end up being added to the household yet😁
I'm having a love affair with Olfactive Studio at the moment. I own Dancing Light and Lumière Blanche and I have samples of nearly all of their EDPs. Then I'm going to move onto their Extraits/Shots. So good to hear more about Chypre Shot
I would love to have a bit more of some of the Olfactive Studios fragrances, had to get in Australia now but they are so underrated!
I wish I sampled Starlight before I jump and blind buy it base of overhype on CZcams😅 It reminds me of so many perfume I already have. The closest one that make me regret getting Starlight is Vanilla Diorama by Dior. I am not saying they are dupe but close enough to my nose that one of this scent profile is enough. I even like Vanilla Diorama much more and I use it more often. However, I found Starlight is a nice scent but its very kitchen spice kinda perfume which make me not wear it. I think its nice on a man but I am still not 💯 about it for myself. I even have Soul batik by Moresque which is another Cardamom based perfume. I even like Soul batik more than starlight😅 I might change my mind later. Thanks for the video❤

Hello, I have starlight and love it!! I have finished a sample of shunkoin and would love to buy a bottle however I already have cuir beluga and find them very similar. Do you think shunkoin could be more of a summer scent? I finished the sample and have not come to a conclusion 😂.
Cuir Beluga is much more suedey on me but yes I think Shunkoin could work in the summer, although its powderiness might be a bit much in the high heat :)
Love this video. I've just got for myself Aura edp from Mugler as I wanted to have a full collection of creations under Thierry and I am surprised how different this green perfume is. I like it or getting to like it. My first green fragrance anyway. What about you guys here think if this discontinued piece?

I have a sample of it but I confess I have not spritzed it yet! I will check it out- although I hope I dont love it now it is discontinued!
I also have had a travel bottle of Chypre Shot in my collection for a couple of years now and when I recently got a sample of Starlight immediatly thought of Chypre Shot. I do enjoy the stronger cardamom note of Starlight but I find that, at least in the mid stage, the fruity sweetness smells just like a bag of mixed gummy bears, especially when it transferes to cloths.. and I dont enjoy that very much. Also, I find all Xerjoffs that I've tried to be too overpowering and synthetic... But with Chypre shot, I keep going back and forth if I should keep it or not, because although I do love to smell it from the atomizer, I never know when to wear it (I have only worn it a couple of times around Christmas so far). What I have noticed is a kind of bready/doughy quality in the mid and dry down of it and all in all the composition somehow doesnt come together to form a coherent picture for me...

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Mascha! So Matt has since fallen in love with the sample of Starlight and I gave him Chypre Shot to wear and he has been wearing it almost every day! I get to enjoy it without having to commit to wearing it myself.I too find it to be a bit much sometimes.
I've tried both of these scents but neither worked for me. I think the coffee note in Chypre Shot put me off. I do own travel sprays of both Violet and Iris shot in the Olfactive Studio line. This is an excellent line. I haven't tried many Xerjoff scents but Starlight was a disappointment for me. So far my only love from Xerjoff is Shunkoin. Unrelated to this video,
I recently sampled scents by Les Abstraight that you mentioned previously. I really enjoyed all of them. Belle Ame reminds me of TRNP Irises, which is one of my HG perfumes. It's beautiful. It's not in my budget at the moment but Des Cendres will be my next purchase. I really want both! Great video! ❤
I love all of the Les Abstraits too! I also own Shunkoin lol, I keep forgetting I have it actually.
How long did you let sample sit? I don’t like many fragrances if I try them immediately upon receipt. Months later, I have found several loves. They are completely different fragrances when settled 🤷🏻♀️
As I described in the video I wore it for several days over the course of a few weeks and would record my thoughts at different points throughout the wear. Of course after many months or even years our perceptions of a fragrance can change - our tastes overall can change - but having since bought another decant because my partner loves to wear it, my view of it remains the same. It’s fine but not my favourite 🤷♀️

Its funny i havent smelled many parfumes that have a coffee note but every Single Time i didnt smell coffee 😂
Such a true statement. I think the Akro coffee one might be the only one I smelled that resembles coffee.
Hi Cherie! Thank you for this! I was wondering about Starlight. A friend mentioned it smelled a lot like Remember Me from Jovoy, which is a love for me. Also, Xerjoff's Nio is a beautiful bergamot/cardamom fragrance. It seems to be both warm and cool and smells wonderful in the cold and in the heat. Have you tried it? (Katrina from @scentedlibrary)
Hi Katrina, I think I have a sample of remember me somewhere, I do actually own Nio (well, I bought it for Matt so, technically Matt owns it LOL) I find Nio to be a lot brighter and less heavy on the cardamom. It’s a lot more citrusy to me, but yes I agree it’s a beautiful one for the heat or any time really! If I had to choose I would pick Nio for sure.
