Sand tray type DIY... Put a generous layer of salt in a shallow sealable Pyrex dish or similar container. Probably most of us have this on hand and can write out the letters on index cards or something.
Thank you for this channel and the work you do!

I love this! I have used these very materials you suggested for years in my homeschool. Another great option for the letter formation and spelling is using a small chalkboard, a sponge cut into small cubes, and chalk. Start by writing the letter you are targeting for them in chalk. Then ask them to trace it with a damp sponge cube, trace again with a dry cube, and finally write it themselves with chalk.

I’m an orton gillingham reading specialist, the sand tray is perfect but the best way to do it would be to say the sound while simultaneously tracing the letter to make the VAK visual auditory kinestetic connections in the brain.

Great video! Grandma bought one of those prek books for my kid. She actually likes workbooks, but this helps me focus on what is more important.

Great suggestions! We use the sand tray often! I use different cards though, I found some at target that have the upper and lower case on one side and the picture on the other side. We also use the dry erase letter writing. I have a different one from Amazon and my daughter can use it independently for a few, but if I step away for too long, she makes her own rules!

Question, when you taught kindergarten, were you allowed to skip all of those tedious practice book pages that were so hard for kids to do on their own?

This was so helpful!!! Your approach to teaching is so simple and straight forward! Coming from an incredible and honest teacher like you, what’s your take on the pros/cons of homeschooling? Might be a loaded question but I’d love to know your thoughts on it. Maybe an idea for a future video.

I might tackle this on my IG stories today and post a longer video to this page at some point. I think it's too much to cover in a comment here, but I see many pros and many cons (just like I see for traditional schooling.)

3:18 yup especially coming from a Spanish speaking home. Most houses that I’ve seen that have only Spanish speaking parents don’t give this extra support at home because the parents themselves don’t know the English language. Any suggestions for those parents?

Yeah I mean this is a big part of why my business exists. To give a ton of info on how to support your child in learning how to read with VERY few resources (whiteboard, marker, sound cards, and if folks are able: my courses.) I think the more info we can make publicly available to support folks at home the better.

What age do you suggest to start these type of exercises? My baby will be 2 in 3 months. Thank you

It is less about age and more about reading stage- I have a quiz to help you find your child's reading stage here: www.toddlersread.com/quizzes?

I was disappointed in the Bob book work books myself. I think they could of done better. I think they should of been more like teach your child to read on 20 easy lessons and alpha phonics. I expectednsome better from them.
