Here’s my go-to recipe for a quick and tasty Apple Cobbler made right on the pit. All you need are fresh apples and a few basic ingredients you probably have in the kitchen, and you’ll have a dessert ready for any Backyard BBQ.
Start by peeling and coring 7-8 medium size Granny Smith Apples. Quarter the apples and place them in a large bowl. Coat the apples with 1 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of Cinnamon and let them hang out for about an hour. In a mixing bowl combine 2 cups of All Purpose Flour, 1 ½ cups of table sugar, ½ cup brown sugar, 2 eggs (beaten), 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir the mixture until it forms small crumbles.
Place the apples in a cast iron dutch oven (or iron skillet) and sprinkle the crumble mixture on top. Drizzle the whole thing with 1 stick of melted butter.
Fire up your smoker or bbq grill set up for indirect cooking and bring the temperature to 350⁰. Place the dutch oven in the pit and cook for about 1 hour. The cobble is done once the topping browns. At this point it’s ready to serve; just plate it up with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you’ll have one great BBQ dessert!

Will someone at Food Network, or somebody who knows someone there, please wake up and give this guy his own show!!!! Malcolm is great!
I like him just the way he is, they would try to change him
Please someone
Naw. He’s to good for that network. Maybe back in the network’s early days when Emeril etc were their stars.
this is my favorite channel i can't lie
I never tried to smoke anything until I discovered this channel. Now I try to smoke everything. Malcolm makes everything super easy to learn. Thanks brother.
Everytime I use this man's recipes, I get harassed as to when I'm going to do it again??? THIS MAN IS MY FAVORITE COOK AND BBQER IN THE WORLD.
this channel is the reason i bought a smoker
glad to hear that
same here!
@@howtobbqright would you change anything if making a peach version? Besides the peaches of course lol
This guy is a legend!
You're wrecking my low carb diet. Looks great.
Life is too short for low carbs brutha.
I was gonna try to adapt this to lower calories and carbs. What do you think about using stevia, egg whites, light butter and maybe coconut flour? It cuts the calories by 2/3 I think.
Malcolm I tried this one today for a friend's bbq.. everyone LOVED it!!! Thanks!!!
Dude you are unreal. I got a pit boss for my birthday in March beginning of SIP. I’ve done a few pork butts, ribs some chicken all off of your guidance. Now your the first video to come up for apple cobbler. It brought me joy, comfort and hunger to see your face again. How to bbq right indeed! Cheers!
Best channel ever! You are the man Malcom. God bless you.
Malcolm, you are the reason I got a smoker. I've been making your recipes since I've had my smoker. Made your brisket and this dessert and it killed this weekend. Thanks for giving me the confidence to make such deliciousness on them smoker

Thank you sir, Just tried these, and I must say, This is my favorite apple recipe!
That apple cobble recipe looks great,I'm going to try that for sure Thanks Malcom
Great video that brings back fond memories.
This is one of those home cooked treats I loved as a kid. My grandma even showed me how to make this back then. We called it apple crisp though, and worked room temp soft butter into the dry mix instead. We would also often pour a little cold whole milk on top instead of ice cream, same as we would with oatmeal, since that's what we more likely had around to use.
I'll have to try this on my grill sometime in my big cast iron pan.
Seriously buddy love your cooking man!
That looked real great! I like the addition of the egg in this recipe. How about some Dutch oven cinnamon buns on the grill next?
I'll have to add that one to the list
@@howtobbqright have u done this yet, haven't noticed it if you have?
Made this on my Green Egg for a July 4th neighborhood cookout. It came out perfect. My wife tells me I'll be cooking it quite often.

I think my kids might like this!!
😊😊😊
mine did!
I did this using blueberries. I buttered the bottom of the Dutch oven, poured in 4 cups of blueberries and topped it with the crumble and butter as Brother Reed did.
Spectacular result.
I made this on my offset. Let it run for about an hour at 300, then browned the top in the oven at 400 for a couple of minutes. It was insanely good.
SOLID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta try this.
that looks yummy
Malcom made the pork belly burnt ends. They came out awesome.
That sure looks good
very nice
Awesome recipe, you should do some more desert videos
Legend!!!!!!!!!
Love it!👍❤👍
Blue Bell , good on anything
Your doing a whole lotta good....
Looks Bomb
Used 2 quarts of strawberries in place of apples and left out the cinnamon. Perfection! BGE
Doug Whitson Direct or indirect heat?
Hey Malcom, I love the channel. I have a request. I was thinking of
doing some smoked salsa. Grill the roma tomatoes, onion and jalepenos.
Blend them together and add cilantro and maybe some minced garlic. Then
put it all in a pot and add it to the smoker, stirring occasionally to
add smoke flavor. Going to try it myself soon but would love to see the
master at work! If you do, I'd love a shout-out in your video! I'd think
this would be awesome by itself with chips or to top off some smoked
taco recipe.

HEY BROTHER ? HANDLE THAT COBBLER 👊👊🙊
Good God Man! Yumm
I did this recipe. Came out great. Can u use peaches for this also?
I was looking for a peach cobbler recipe to cook in my new smoker and this recipe looks delicious. Will definitely give it a try.
Update 7/8/18: 🍑🍑🍑This is hands down the best cobbler I've ever had in my life! Instead of apples, I used 5 peaches, sliced into 1/2" wedges, added 1 tsp almond extract, and followed as directed. I used an 8"×8" pan and put it on the grill, since the smoker was packed. Baked for 45 mins. Crust was sweet and crunchy, similar to a sugar cookie and the filling was peachy, almond sweet. Thanks for sharing this awesome recipe. 💞💞💞
@@joykaine4985 I did an amazing peach cobbler this way. Now I’m making a lower calorie version and substituting lower fat and calorie ingredients this weekend. I know it won’t be as amazing but I’ll let you know how it goes. His version is almost 5000 calories. Mine will be 1500 total. I’ll let you know!
@@MrGflan That's awesome you're cutting the calories. I've started using a sugar substitute myself and it can be hit or miss sometimes, but it works well in chocolate chip cookies. Good luck!
@@joykaine4985 Lilly’s stevia chocolate chips are the best if you can find them!!
@@MrGflan Thanks, I'll look for them.
Have you ever used hasty bakes before? I live about 15 min from their Tulsa HQ. been using them for years now and we love them!
Oh yeah Malcom will do
Can I put a lid on the pot while cooking? Great stuff.
Looks amazing! Would there be any issue with mixing the topping together and keeping it in a cooler for a day or 2? I am going on a couple day trip through the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas with a few other people and would love to make this. The more prep I can do before hand the better.
May have to give this a try! Any reason you went with cherry as opposed to apple or maybe maple?
Aye caramba.
Malcolm,
Enjoy your videos, went to your website. When will injectors be in stock?
Malcom, I am in the market for a Yoder YS480 or YS640. I typically cook enough for 5 people so I am thinking the YS480, however, I am concerned that I won't be able to perform true indirect low and slow (e.g. jerky) on the YS480 since I cannot get as far from the fire box as the YS640 and the YS480 does not have a variable displacement damper like the YS640.
I noticed you have a YS480, so I hoped you could provide your feedback, thanks.
Could you make a peach cobbler next please?
Just wondering if I can use the killer hogs rub for frying a turkey or ap rub?
hey Malcolm, you got a recipe for BBQ peaches?
it it ok if i just add the butter into the “batter” and mix it in?
Malcom, what is your favorite smoker? I see you smoke on the ys480 a lot, is that your favorite in terms on flavor and overall impact? Thanks, and keep the videos coming!
Hard to pick just one - they all have their place. Love my Ole Hickory, BGE and UDS
Boy Scout Dump Cobbler!!!
Could you use apple pie filling in a can instead of fresh apples
Drizzle a little carmel on that ❤
Well I got a head of myself and mixed the butter with the flour and whatnot instead of pouring it over top.
Is that a 5 Qt. pot or is it smaller?
Use apple wood.......for apple cobbler....yea!
Smash the thumbs up. “ you know it’s going to be good”
