In this latest The China Repair Studio video, I will be finishing off the pair of Staffordshire pottery dogs.
Join me and start learning the skills of ceramic, porcelain and pottery repair.
We will be covering equipment, adhesives, bonding, filling, painting and airbrushing.
We all have a broken piece of pottery, china/ceramics lurking in our cupboards which we can all recycle and reuse.
I have been a ceramic restorer for many years after training in Oxford. Most of my clients are private but I also work with a few antique dealers.

Hello. Delighted to find your channel - I am truly inspired by your restorations : ) You are both knowledgable and talented - sincere thanks for sharing. I’m a beginner in the U.S. assembling as many ‘need to haves’ before setting forth on my figurine repairs. Which particular Windsor & Newton glaze is comparable to Rustins (there are so many). I've just re watched them as you offered so much info that I was overloaded on my first viewing.
Today, I completed my first ceramic repair, ahem, "attempted repair", which is not so good... but it's my own so I can just chuck it out.
I'm new to this, lot's of room for improvement so thanks again for inspiring me. :-)

As always, I found the video very helpful. Great tips for applying glaze! I used all these techniques for fixing my own antique porcelain :) One thing I found is I can sand it using 400 or higher grit to remove brush marks on the glaze.

it would be lovely if you had a list of tools and other materials written (like an ingredients list in a recipe!) at the beginning or end of your tutorials so we can get everything assembled easily before we start. I know you share that verbally but a written list would take this to the next level.

Can repainted and varnished China dishes be used for serving food again? I appreciate your videos btw. Very easy to follow!
It all depends on the paint and varnish you are using. You can usually look up the product information on the manufacturers sheet which would tell you if what you are using is oven and food safe.

can you sand the paint down for a cleaner look? i've painted my first milliput piece and the paint job is looking a little rough. or will applying the Rustins over it smooth it out? absolutely obsessed with your videos!
I would definitely resand your piece first so you cannot feel any bumps or ridges. Then repaint and final glaze.😃

Did you mix some of the rustins into the acrylic paint?

Hi Alison what kind of thinner do you use with Rustins to airbrush ? Lacker tinner ?
Why do you hand brush the glaze instead of air-brushing it?
Sometimes I use an airbrush, although not everyone has one, so try to cater for every body.

@The China Repair Studio I enjoyed your videos on repairing and painting ceramics, can I ask a question regarding glaze, if I was repairing a chip in a cup, after I fill the chip and sand it it becomes the same 'level' as the original glazed surface, if I then paint it and glaze the chip, will it not be evidently raised?

@@Reiverweb Hi there, when painting and glazing I tend to blend in so there are no ridges, also try not to make the paint and glaze to thick. It also depends on if you are hand painting or airbrushing, with airbrushing you get a smoother affect.

Hi Ali! Can we use airbrush when varnishing with Rustin glaze?
Hi there, I tend to find the varnish too thick which can clog the airbrush. I have diluted it in the past althigh I would recommend trying it out on a piece of paper or old plate.

How to apply glaze rustin with airbrush
I tend to mix the Rustins glaze with a little thinner, otherwise the glaze is too thick and could possibly clog up the airbrush.
@@faceyogamasterWhat type of thinner did you use? I made thinner at home using ethyl alcohol, glycerin and distilled water. I use it to thin my acrylic paints and it works fine, but when mixed with varnish will it reduce the gloss effect of the varnish?
