  • This is a quick video about Dracunculus Vulgaris and how I grow this really cool plant. This plant is hardy to zone 7-10 and prefers some shade from the hot sun. The flowers last about a week but the sight of this flower is worth it. Plant this corm shaped bulb in fall and the following year it should produce foliage and maybe a flower. The flower may take two years to develop.

    That's huge! And it looks like it might overwinter okay in my garden without (ugh!) digging up the tuber. Thanks!

    Very beautiful and sultry bloom! How deep do you recommend planting the corm?

    • @ColorfulGardener
      @ColorfulGardener  Před 5 lety +1

      I would only plant the corm about 3 inches max depth. Better to plant a bulb/corm shallow than too deep.

    I have these and love them. I have a question about it. Not sure if you will answer. How do you propagate the seeds?

    • @ColorfulGardener
      @ColorfulGardener  Před 9 měsíci

      Unfortunately I haven’t tried yet to start from seed. But if the flower does get pollinated you will see orange seeds appear on the end of the spathe where the flower was.

    I have one and is not smelly and no flies around, needs couple of hour sun per day and some water. I have it 2 weeks now bloom and its gonna stay for 2 months. This time Im thinking to make bread from the seeds and keep the herbal oil when its done, dont know what to do with the herbal oil so what do you think?

  • @joebristowtechnologicalbre2073

    Beautiful plant, but I just couldn’t stand the smell. Having worked next to real hanging animal carcasses, it just reminds me of that, and its not a nice smell at all.
