    It's a give and take with soft plastic. The more durable the plastic usually the less action it has. Also the softer baits like the keitechs maintain good action in colder water.

  • @amals51
    @amals51 Před 3 lety +5

    I have said the same thing to myself about the durability of both baits, yammys and Googans. The durability is terrible but the catchability is fantastic! I also believe you are spot on about why the baits get so much hate, it’s because people dislike the Googans for whatever reason. But you really can’t hate on a group that had been able to create a market for themselves in this industry. There has been some talk about some shady stuff going on with intellectual property theft by the Googans, that could be what’s sone of it comes from?? But all that crap aside, they’ve done well for themselves and no one take that away from them. Tight lines!

    I like the Googans so I support them. I especially like LFG, Jon B and Perric. I admire what they have accomplished by building their brand. The soft plastics have caught me a lot of fish but they aren't as durable as some others.

    • @Shurmash
      @Shurmash Před 3 lety +3

      That durability issue is by design. Keeps you buying their product over and over again which makes them douchebags in my opinion. Make a quality product like Z-man.

      @@Shurmash you are correct that the durability issues are by design. However, not in the way you're suggesting. Ask any pro tournament angler and every one of them prefer a "softer" soft plastic. Not only does a softer plastic create a more realistic motion, but a bass is going to hold onto it longer. I am fine replacing a soft plastic after every single fish as long as I'm catching more fish. Every fish caught is worth it. I just won a tournament on Googan Slim Shake worms... I went through 3 packs of them. Totally worth it. 😁

    Googan baits are good baits, but personally, that is not my issue with them. Generally their baits are not unique and they are pricey.
    The trench hawg is the most unique, and the mondo worm is worth a mention because it has a bigger body section and a bigger profile, so I feel like it gets a bigger strike.
    Other than these two exceptions, the baits are very standard.
    Not to mention that their color selection is too small, although I'm sure this will be fixed eventually.

    Honestly don't know why there is alot of hate towards googan baits. They are really good baits IMO but with a good product people are always going to hate. You either have a soft plastic that is stiff with minimal action but can catch more fish per plastic or you have a bait with lots of action but can only catch 1 2 or 3 fish per bait. And googan is a mix of both, good action and pretty durable. Personally for me they catch alot of fish and I just about only use googan.

    I fish in a Hobie PA 14 so I tend to bring 1 canvas bag that holds (4) 3700s and a large freezer plastic bag full of odds and ends. I take 3 - 6 Rods now. I really use to like the Googan Squad. I have not bought one of their products because I think that they have let fame go to their heads. Nothing against them or their baits, I am sure they are awesome, they taught me how to fish and I am grateful. But I like to think that I have or can make everything I need and don't need to buy into their stuff anymore. How can you manage to take Soo much tackle and lures to lake? There was a time that all I would take is one 3500 box on a Caddis or bank fishing because it confused me to have a lot of my stuff with me. I have an office in my house dedicated to fishing. I make my own lures, so I have Sooooooo many lures and baits. I have my favorite brands and started off with LTB and MTB for a year, which taught me a lot. So I have a Bin for each bait, worms, Tubes, Square Bills, Deep Dives, Crank Baits, Swim Baits with Paddle Tail, Swim Baits with normal tail, Jointed baits, Jigs, Finesse Jigs....So many times I have only taken 7 baits and lures to the pond and worked them all day. That is how I found out how to fish my lures and baits like an Expert. Now, I can tell you anything about any lure...Color, time of day, weather, lines, Red markings, depth, techniques...I have been working on creating a Rig for my State. The Nebraska Rig...still testing the technique. Lol I really like the design of those bags that hold your Googan & KVD plastics, but why take so many plastics? I also like the New Plano Jig, Spinner and Bass Mafia storage containers. But they look like they would be really heavy after 30 - 40 lures and cumbersome. You tell me, I have never filled them, put them in the truck transported theme and added to a boat or kayak, took them out of boat, in truck, in house. Seems like too much work, a lot of trips. How man lures can you use in a day? How many techniques can you use in a day? All rhetorical questions, well mostly? Thank You for your Reviews. I listened intensely today as I built 6 Umbrella Rigs today. 4 Finesse A Rigs and 2 Tank A Rigs. I can easily get more fish on a senko than most. My secret? It’s all in the hook. Gamakatsu springlock superline with an owner large cps paired with a 6” senko is insane how durable it is. The only part that really gets damaged it the hooked area of the worm. After that, I bite off the tail and flip it around. Still works lol

    I caught a ton of fish this summer using the green pumpkin/watermelon red flake Krackin craw & the brown gill colored drag-n-drop. Honestly, I caught fish on just about everyone of them I pulled out the pack. Texas rigging the craw on a 3/0-4-0 screw lock hook & Texas rigging the drag-n-drop on about a 2/0-3/0 EWG hook weightless. People make claims of this & that about the baits & the squad or whatever, hell there’s some Googans that I think are terds too, but the bottom line is they catch fish & they caught fish for me when nobody else was catching fish. I haven’t used any of their hard baits but I can attest to their soft plastics.

  • @fishwithoutfear8970
    @fishwithoutfear8970 Před 3 lety

    The way I look at it is that those baits are designed by people who actually enjoy bass fishing, and have an extensive library of footage proving that they themselves catch fish. I mean, even if you don't dig the squad's personality, you at least have bass fishing in common. Their baits are fine, I'm just a diehard elaztech guy.

    Honestly I cannot stand the smell of googan baits long enough to really use them. With that being said, I’ve bought the KVD speed bags thinking I’d be able to organize my softbaits, and I was only able to fit about 22 Gary Yamamoto Senko bags in the speed bag that is said to be able to fit 40.

    I’m a huge fan of Zoom finesse worms, but I’m trying out the googan slim shakes this year to compare. All in all, it just depends on what lure you like in which brand. Googan might have a better speed worm, but Zoom might have a better finesse worm, etc.

    I don't care if a soft bait is trashed after one or two good fish (honestly should be about 5 or so but still). I've only used the bandito bug but the problems with it, in my experience, are as follows.
    They don't hold hooks for shit. A fresh rig on a Palomar knot with a nose bullet and a good hook and the hook just wants to fall out no matter how i go through the nose or where in the belly i push it in. I have reeled them in multiple times without getting snagged and the hook is sitting outside the bait. I feel like they should have some sort of firmer core where the hook tip can nestle in so it dosen't constantly slip out just from being cast.
    They also tear out extremely easily. I used one today in Texas (it's been stupid windy) and after just three cast and pulling it through some camboba grass the bait was sitting on the hook tip like a landed fish. The nose was completely torn open and basically unusable after that. I like the guys for the most part and was excited to try them out but I've gone through about 8 of them without catching fish (not the baits fault) and they are pretty much done just from basic casting and retrieving. On the first one i ever opened i pulled one of the legs off just from lightly pulling it to separate the flashing from the main body. It was disappointing to say the least. Zooms are cheaper, they last longer, they hold a hook well and they don't just tear off from the nose from being cast into the wind. I may try some other models as i primarily use worms on a Texas rig but if they are as flimsy as the bugs my hopes aren't set high.

    Overall I like Googan baits, but I will say the lunker logs will sometimes split in half without even catching a fish just from wacky rigging them. Maybe they're wider than other senko style baits so the o ring is too snug, but they're the only ones I have had that problem with.
