This is a fully automatic, bean to cup coffee machine, capable of handling every aspect of coffee preparation, from grinding the beans to frothing the milk. You won’t need any special barista training to enjoy fast, café-quality coffee at the touch of a button. While it was designed specifically for the Australian and New Zealand markets, it’s popular all over the world for its fantastic performance.
For example, if you want a classic flat white, you can just select the drink from the menu up here, and the machine will take care of the rest. It’ll grind the beans from the container at the rear, heat the water from the tank at the side, and steam the milk through the connected tube. You can use a regular jug of milk if you like, or you can use a purpose-made milk container, which is sold separately. For a flat while, this machine will pour out the coffee first, and then layer the milk on top for a better taste and texture. This is different to other automatic coffee machines, which usually put the milk in first, so the flat white’s not as good.
These twin spots allow you to prepare either one cup of coffee with milk, such as a latte or flat white, or two cups of coffee drinks, such as espresso. You can move the spouts up and down to accommodate taller cups.
On the right, there’s also a spout for dispensing instant hot water. You can use this to warm up your ceramic coffee mugs with a splash of hot water before making your drink, as a cold mug will actually absorb 50% of the heat from a fresh coffee. Plus, the hot water dispenser can be generally pretty useful in the kitchen, such as when you’re making tea, cups of soup, or even gravy.
Like Jura’s other coffee machines, the F9 takes good care of itself, without you needing to take it apart for cleaning or maintenance. It automatically rinses out its system before and after each use, and thanks to the water filter, there’s no need to descale its workings.
You will need to run a cleaning cycle every so often, but that’s easy. All you need to do is open up the chute, pop in a Jura cleaning tablet, and let the machine take care of the rest. By the way, this chute is also where you add the coffee grounds if you prefer them to beans.
The electronic display and the button and dial controls make it simple to customise drinks to your exact preferences, without any special barista training. You can set a grind for up to 16 grams of coffee, giving you a true double shot taste. One of the best features of the control panel is that once you’ve created a custom drink, you can save it as a favourite and make it with the touch of one button, rather than entering the settings all over again. Plus, you can even name your custom drinks, which is perfect for households where everyone likes their coffee in a different way - just touch the button for, let’s say, Mel’s Breakfast Blend, and away you go!
