The Pointer Sisters are an American R&B singing group from Oakland, California, that achieved mainstream success during the 1970s and 1980s. Spanning over four decades, their repertoire has included such diverse genres as pop, disco, jazz, electronic music, bebop, blues, soul, funk, dance, country, and rock. The Anita Pointer and Ruth Pointer, The Pointer Sisters Interview on The Jim Masters Show LIVE entertainment, lifesyle, talk show series with award-winning television, radio, multimedia personality and host Jim Masters. The Pointer Sisters have won three Grammy Awards and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994.
The group had 13 US top 20 hits between 1973 and 1985.The group had its origins when sisters June and Bonnie Pointer began performing in clubs in 1969 as "Pointers, a Pair". The line-up grew to a trio when sister Anita joined them. They got a record deal with Atlantic Records and released several unsuccessful singles. The trio grew to a quartet when sister Ruth joined in December 1972. They then signed with Blue Thumb Records, recorded their debut album, and began seeing more success, winning a Grammy Award in 1975 for Best Country Vocal Performance for Fairytale (1974). Bonnie left the group in 1978 to commence a solo career with modest success. The group achieved its greatest commercial success as a trio during the 1980s consisting of the line-up of June, Ruth, and Anita, winning two more Grammys for the top 10 hits Automatic and Jump (For My Love), both from 1984. The group's other U.S. top 10 hits are Fire (1979), He's So Shy"(1980), Slow Hand (1981), the remixed version of I'm So Excited (1984), and Neutron Dance (1985).
In December 2016, Billboard magazine ranked them as the 80th most successful dance artists of all-time. In December 2017, Billboard ranked them as the 93rd most successful Hot 100 Artist of all-time and as the 32nd most successful Hot 100 Women Artist of all-time. A prolific songwriter, Anita has contributed generously to many of the Pointer Sisters' albums. Her talents even attracted the King himself, Elvis Presley, who recorded Fairytale (written by Anita and Bonnie). She has also penned material for other artists, including Jeff Lorber's '80s classic, Step By Step. Throughout her career, Anita has worked on various solo projects. In 1986, her duet with Earl Thomas Conley, Too Many Times reached #2 on Billboard's Country Chart. She also filmed a video for the country hit that featured her singing in the studio with Earl. Anita made her official solo debut in 1987 when RCA Records released Love For What It Is. The album revisited the country influence that first appeared in the Pointers' Fairytale. Highlights included a romantic duet with Philip Bailey, The Pledge, and the record's first single, Overnight Success, which reached #41 on the R&B chart. A stylish video accompanied the single and Anita performed on various television shows to promote the album, including: American Bandstand, Soul Train and The Arsenio Hall Show.
In 2014, Big Break Records re-released Love For What It Is remastered with bonus tracks. In 2005, Anita recorded Take Me Home for an All-Star Tribute to Cher on Cleopatra Records. In 2006, she appeared on Celebrity Duets (FOX) performing with Olympic champion Carly Patterson. She can also be seen in the film documentary, The Secret Revolution of Disco (2013). Anita retired from touring at the end of 2015 and has remained busy. She released a new single "Feels Like June" and a book in 2020, Fairytale :The Pointer Sisters' Family Story. I loved The Pointer Sisters ever since I was 12 years old kid. Now, that I'm a 36 year old grown woman. I love and respect and admire them so much💚👑💚👑💚👑💚👑, and it all started when I was looking through my mother's albums and found their album breakout and the rest is history. I didn't even realize they were this funny.

Loved this so much. Just read Ruth's book and am about 3/4 through Anita's now. When I was a kid, my parents taped their 1987 TV special Up All Night for me, and I wore that VHS tape out! Their talent and personalities sold me as a kid, and are still selling me now at 40. What a fantastic interview!

When I bought both of their books, their autobiographies gave a deep insight to their lives on what they was going through. I really enjoyed reading their books and Mrs. Anita sign her book for me. I was so excited when she did that for me😍😍😍. I really appreciate that, that made me feel very special ❤️🌹😍👑.

There is also a third book that I read, written by Ruth's granddaughter and titled "Humble Bastard." I think her book gave me the best insight of June who is my favorite Pointer. It is poorly written, but a good book none the less. 😊
Good Morning I brough both of their books as well. I had ordered Anita's from her website and I had waited over 7 weeks to get my copy. I had emailed her and her team to see what happened, they apologized and not only did they send me a copy, Anita autographed my copy twice and sent me some extra promotional items including a bracelet and keychain. A class act.
That's why I love Mrs. Anita so much💚👑 She able to make a mistake like that and then just laugh about it🥰. It's really not a big deal and she's not going to make a fuss about it. She's the best 💚👑. She meant to say handcuffs but, she said cufflinks 58:11 / 58:21

Thanks to Jay for asking about June. It brought a smile to my face too, hearing them talk about her. Anita and Ruth, I'll be listening for that recording titled "Legs Like June!" LOL! I am a little disappointed that David Rubinson who was in the room along with Fritz, was not acknowledged. Guess David should have sent a question to the sisters, they might not have even known he was there. I bought FAIRYTALE the day it was released and it is always beside me. @@JIMMASTERSTV I was in the Navy, stationed at the Pentagon from 1969 until 1973. I remember it was a BIG DEAL when the Pointer Sisters came to town and everyone was saying they smashed Bette Midler's crowds. It was either 1972 or 1973....and I think a little before they had a hit with "Yes We Can Can/"
I love to just hear them chatting because their laughter is as great as their singing....they just make me happy when I hear them.....by the way, I'm in the same age group as the originals.
I thought I'd fall out of my seat when I heard (I think it was Anita) say when they
appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, someone jump up and said "Hot damn! Those girls are Black!"" :-) Really funny because one of the original stars of the Opry was DeFord Bailey...DeFord Bailey was an American country music and blues star from the 1920s until 1941. He was the first performer to be introduced on the Grand Ole Opry, the first African-American performer on the show, and the first performer to have his music recorded in Nashville. Bailey played several instruments in his career but is best known for playing the harmonica, often being referred to as a "Harmonica Wizard".
Country Music and R&B or Blues have the same roots! The music comes from Hard Times and Hard Luck.

Me, too . Bonnie was a very humorous person. She is greatly missed. Bonnie so multi talented. I could see the late Anita was struggling with the loss of her sister Bonnie. I read somewhere she never got over the loss of her daughter Jade. Anita was a great singer and performer, a legend. It was a pleasure to watch her. The Pointers Sisters deserve to be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. RIP June, Bonnie and Anita Pointer.
Great seeing Anita & Ruth together. Legends, & so down to Earth & funny, especially when they are together. Your interviews with Anita, & now with both remaining sisters, are gems, Jim. The entertainment industry really hasn't given as much acknowledgement ( at least since the time of their peak success ) as it to some of their accomplishment: a string of top ten hits, and being the first female singing group & especially first females of colour to win the Grammy for vocal group or duo performance. They definitely belong in the Rock&Roll hall of fame!! I was delighted to see Ruth on the Masked Singer ( I'd been saying they should go on since the show began ), & I wish Anita could have been there. Hope she is doing well.

1:30:00 for Anita to say sadly she didn't have the Faith anymore saddens me. I'm sorry she's in that position. My favorite concert of the Pointer Sisters is the 1994 A Gospel Christmas from PBS with the All Atlanta Chorus and the All Atlanta Symphony. The thing that blows me away about the Pointer Sisters, is all of the Genres of music that they performed, and it was not just a flavor of that genre sprinkled in with the Pointer Sisters sound, it was all Pointer Sisters organically doing a genre. When they did a country song, it was country, when they did Jazz, it was Jazz. They can do everything, and made it sound like that was their type of music, no matter what it was, because the Pointer Sisters is music. In their storied career. They did Jazz, blues, soul, R&B, Disco, country, Rock, pop, electronic music, bebop, funk, musicals, and recently they rapped on Feels Like June, a tribute to their sister. The Pointer Sisters truly can do anything, and do it well.

There's one thing I noticed about the guy that who the Pointer Sisters referring to and he handcuffed Mrs. himself to Mrs. Anita... That's probably reason why other celebrities they won't allow fans to get on stage with them, because they tend to act a little crazy, when they see a celebrity they won't give the artist the hug then just go about their business. or how much they love them, crazed fans want to act out, when they get on stage like they just get crazy and I think that's the reason why they banned fans from getting on stage with the artist now.
