This is what church sounded like when I was a wee girl……heavenly❤❤❤❤❤. My favorite church song.
The blend between Latin and English here is incredible. Making the English parts a bit more reserved, then the Latin part becoming more intense, culminating at when they blend together.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the end where it's all on one note, in the same octave. Absolutely haunting.
🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
That’s so kind! Thank you!
I have generally been opposed to intermixing English with Latin when singing traditional hymns (especially within the context of a liturgy) but could never come up with a valid and logically consistent reasoning for saying it is never beautiful (and thankful kept my opinion nuanced). This video has given me clear and convincing proof that it can be done very well and very beautifully!!
Honestly, this type of stuff is what the Novus Ordo was SUPPOSED to be
Singing hymns in a mixture of the vernacular and Latin was once quite common.
Oui, mais si c'était du français ? Ou de l'espagnol ?
I know when I pitched this idea, I was met with a certain amount of uncertainty so I am happy to hear that it was successful in its intent to provide a real time translation.
This is sublime!
I was thinking about how I wished I lived in a time that Christ focused living was around but then thought about that at some point in the future we will like in the kingdom of heaven and the grime of the current age will be gone and God will be our focus forever, amen!
the music of the Advent season is some of the most beautiful and angelic sounds.
It’s so soothing to the mind to hear this kind of voice very especially that the world is facing present crisis. Let there be Peace ☮️ Lord.
Absolutely magnificent. English and Latin lyrics beautifully woven with angelic voices. Very uplifting.
Greetings from me, from Indonesia! 🇮🇩😊
We also have the traslated lyrics of this Latin Advent Hymn and it's often sung in church when Season of Advent comes.
Here's the traslation in our language (Bahasa Indonesia):
"O, DATANGLAH IMANUEL"
1. O datanglah Imanuel, tebus umat-Mu, Israel, yang dalam berkeluh-kesah menantikan penolongnya.
Bersukalah, hai Israel, menyambut Sang Imanuel!
2. O datang, Tunas Isai, patahkan belenggu pedih, dan umat-Mu lepaskanlah dari lembah sengsaranya.
Bersukalah, hai Israel, menyambut Sang Imanuel!
3. O Surya Pagi, datanglah dan jiwa kami hiburlah; halaukanlah gelap seram bayangan maut yang kejam. Bersukalah, hai Israel, menyambut Sang Imanuel!
4. O Kunci Daud, datanglah, gapura surga bukalah; tutuplah jalan seteru, supaya selamat umat-Mu.
Bersukalah, hai Israel, menyambut Sang Imanuel!
5. O Tuhan Allah, datanglah,
Firman-Mu berkuasalah, seperti waktu Kauberi di atas puncak Sinai.
Bersukalah, hai Israel, menyambut Sang Imanuel!
This hymn is in our Praise Book/Book of Hymns, it's called "Puji Syukur" (it's mean: Praise & Gratitude, the Hymn Book for the use of Roman Catholic Church); and "Kidung Jemaat" (it's mean: Song of the Congregation, the Hymn Book for the use of Protestant Lutheran-Calvinist Churches).
🙏🙏
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing that!
Absolutely beautiful. Was brought to tears ❤️
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed
Merci pour cette belle prière. Je suis un homme comblé et béni. Que Dieu soit loué 🙏
So this is the piece which inspired Zoltán Kodály's Adventi Enek. Thank you for sharing!
Love that young soloist’s voice. ❤️
Magnifique ! Nous l'avons chanté à l'église dimanche.
Wunderschön gesungen, Zweisprachigkeit exzellent, grafische Gestaltung ebenfalls.
Beglückend schönes Weihnachtsstück-
I love listening to your music while studying, thank u very much!
I love it. The initial english echo gives it great depth.
Perfect timing. Thank you 🙏🏻 ✝️🎄

Immense and sublime
Beautiful. I've been trying to learn chant notation and this is super clean and beautiful. Merry Christmas and God bless
This is amazing. Had no idea this sort of thing existed. This is extremely well done.
Breathtakingly beautiful.
Praise our almighty and everlasting God❤❤Glory to our almighty and everlasting God. Sanctus , Sanctus , Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth.❤❤❤Alleluia , Alleluia.❤❤❤
Excellent end Beautiful end Perfect ♥️🙏
This hym was translated by John Mason Neale a priest of the Church of England in the ninenteenth century.
So so beautiful...thx you ...❤
Abolutely love this 😍😍😍
It is really beautiful!!!
大好きな曲です。
合唱曲にするには音が捕まえられない、はまらないと思っていたのですけど、分かった気がしました。
名曲ですね。しみじみと感じました。
I love my Parish. Little Flower, this isn't any type of music but art, and beuty.
A perfect version. Excellent!
I love your work! God bless you! ❤
Beautiful! Thank you!
I'd never heard anything like this! Although I do still like the Latin version better, this is very cool! The execution is on point. It would be great to sing this version at a Novus Ordo Mass where most people don't know Latin.
Wow. Was this sung at Mass at one point this Advent and I missed it? Congratulations guys, this is beautiful. I too am usually not a fan of mixing the languages within one hymn as many times it becomes Babel: the Musical, but you guys nailed it. Beautiful. Make a CD!
Hey Yeinier! No it wasn’t sung actually in church. It was kind of an experiment to see if a real time translation were possible without becoming mush. Maybe sometime soon we will have enough material to make a CD but that’ll probably have to wait until after the baby.
.
Love and peace on earth .
🕊
Me encanta lo medieval
Beautiful. thank you❤
For those who actually understand latin, it's even more powerful. Always best to access something like this in the original language.
I took Latin for a year in high school and it was the most confusing thing ever LOL. I just couldn’t get it down
I am so grateful to hear this piece of superb work. God bless you for sharing this. I wish I could hear it in the liturgy of my parish.
Greetings from Brazil. Thank you!
Thank you for listening!
Very beautiful!!!❤
Wow, outstanding!
Lovely arrangement, and making it macaronic is appropriate for the season.
Sehr fein, bravo, bravissimo
Beautiful
Beautiful❤🎉
Well done, Mercedes.
No word does this song true justice to how sublime it is. A masterpiece with wonderful singers. I love it so much ❤
𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞༆
That’s so kind! Thank you! God Bless
Hay và tuyệt vời quá ❤❤❤.
Beautiful ❤
Maravilloso ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hermoso.
Amazing recording! God bless you! You earned a new subscriber here ❤
😇
I would like to suggest you all to mix Latin and Greek languages next. Please.
I would love that!
Удивительно красиво, глубоко и прекрасно..)
I'm so glad that I got recommended this rendition by the algorithm. Truly made me tear up. I started crying as I sang along as well the second time around. Your arrangement and performance truly made me pray for us, "Lord have mercy on us!" Between the over 500,000 lives needlessly lost in Ukraine, and the close to 20,000 in Gaza within the past 2 months! Lord we ask forgiveness at thy Nativity for our great and many sins! Have mercy on us!
Where did you get figure of 500,000 people have died in this atrocity on the Ukraine? According the UNs Human Rights Monitoring Mission there have been 10,000 deaths since the attack by Russia starting 24 February, 2022
@@tonibaggett2301 the near 500,000 figure comes from the New York Times report titled, "Troop Deaths and Injuries in Ukraine War near $500,000 U.S. Officials Say". However when I wrote this, I kind of jumbled both injuries and deatbs in my head and lumped them together.
Ignore the dollar sign, my phone put that in, lol.
Nice 👍
Just sung this in finnish!
Latin is the mother tongue of all languages!
❤❤❤
English is the new Latin
Is there any possible way to buy this arrangement? I would love our church choir to perform it next year at our Christmas concert, especially the chamber choir.
Yes you can! Music is definitely available. There are links to two places they can be purchased from in the description of the video. Let me know if you run into any issues.
this seems to me a capella. Still, it leaves no wish for extra stimulation. Astonishing
Wow! Do you guys have a Spotify account? I'd love to add this to my Nativity playlist
Stay tuned on that. We are still relatively new and don’t have a distributor yet but it one thing we would like to work on next
Have you done also God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen, or plan to record it?
That is not one that we have done yet but I think it would be fun to record some more traditional hymns like that sometime
I’ve been using this song as a prayer for Israel quite a bit since the war began.
🙏🏻🥹
Please, rec "Veni Redemptor gentium".
Thanks Fredd! I will add that one to the list
Is this streaming anywhere?(Spotify, Apple)
Our current project is trying to make some music available for streaming platforms so stay tuned!
Who is The True Jesus Christ GOD!
I have a point. Why is not this tune being sung using musica ficta?
whose translation is this?
It’s attributed to Thomas Helmore but he wasn’t a known translator. I suspect it was heavily based on the Neale translation but don’t know for sure.
This is gregorian chant?
It is! This hymn was originally a chant
ne reviens plus macron
Er the music isn’t going with the lyrics…and I don’t recognise the tune
It’s a psalm …what am I missing here ?
I’m wondering if you may be experiencing a glitch of some kind which is giving you audio from another video for some reason. You should be hearing a hymn based on the O Antiphons, which are mostly taken from the Old Testament prophets. It should be a fairly recognizable tune.
Astonishingly beautiful and heavenly, but it would have been better if it was purely in latin, or the latin and english parts didn't mix.
Thanks so much! I’ll keep that in mind next time
I don't know if it would be better but I would definitely like to hear the parts separately. Especially the Latin, which is unusual. Though I am happy to hear any good rendition of this song any time.
And yet, Orthodox hymns and icons are much more beautiful.
Imagine being schismatic dawg 😂
.
thank you for letting us know .
.
@@The_Rad_TradIronic coming from a tradcath. Why aren't you submitting to Pope Francis with docility? You know Rome is corrupt. Come home to Orthodoxy ☦️ Merry Christmas!
amazingly beautiful!🔥😍
come o come Emmanuel!

Latin has an intense spirituality as well as a unifying factor.
The Pope is wrong to move away from Latin liturgy. The vernacular is populist and dors not have the mystery or spirituality and is a protestant move.
Bizarre mélange du latin et d'une autre langue...
It shows how english is boring when compared to latin or latin languages
Beautiful ❤❤❤
