    Alex! I have been following your Channel and Ninja Teacher for some time now! I am not only impressed but blown away how modern Vietnam is becoming in such a short time span! Even though I am starting my English teaching journey in Korea, I plan on visiting Vietnam one day and hope to have an opportunity to meet with your team on the ground.

    living there can be a great opportunity, just be careful to respect the people there. teachers get paid a very high wage compared to locals in the country, so it is easy to come across as overpaid spoiled children. respect the country and the privileges you will have

    Thanks Alex for great material. I am in a rut in the USA and tired of ridiculous taxes and state of division here. I plan on visiting because of you in February. Hopefully becoming you student within the next 12 months.

    A new location with new experiences would definitely be my reason for moving to Vietnam and learning to become an English teacher. Through your videos, you've shown many views and experiences that would potentially draw anyone curious about Vietnam to want to travel there. I hope to someday.

    Sounds obvious but drink a load of water here, I didnt at first and it affected my teaching performance and did loads of stupid forgetful things outside of work. The weather is so dehydrating so drink loads of water forget too much coffee or alcohol in the day you will feel like shit .

    Another observation if you are a really big guy or like an athlete you will lose a shit tonne of weight on local food 😂 I am tall with a big appetite and was already slim before I came here and lost 2kg in 6 weeks bare in mind I was already very in shape. So after losing weight I now need to focus on eating alot or I will get unhealthy and weak.
    I'd really reccomend you learn to cook and cook a decent amount if you are A) not wanting to eat local food all the time and B) wanting to save money and be healthy whilst eating alot.
    If you start having western food you can spend 300k on a meal which is too much if you want to save you cant do that regularly. I dont mind local food but cant eat all the time so am trying to find balance between spending alot and being healthy and happy with what I eat
    Ideal if you are someone with a small appetite like most women or looking to lose weight.

    Are there language centers that have the teaching cirriculum already made? Or are all language centers the same where you prepare the lesson planning?

    • @ninja.teacher
      @ninja.teacher  Před 8 měsíci +2

      The overall curriculum is always set but you’ll typically need to plan each lesson yourself (although most centers give you lots of resources to do so).

    I arrived in Vietnam to teach 6 weeks agp from the Uk as someone fairly young (24) and who has never been to Asia before and I am in Bin Duong and my god it is wild out here haha😂 not what you see on internet but still good.
    Things you dont see on CZcams ot here
    1. As a decent looking man you will be harassed haha especially if you are tall I am not bothered anymore but at first and at times it can be annoying . I had men working at shops or restaurants serving even say weird comments and women taking a step back like I was an Alien or a difrerent species haha😂 American work collegue told me many stories of sexual harassment including local women grabbing his balls. This was in a more rural area this will happen less in Saigon.
    2.Drivers are crazy and its worse than what you think and could imagine- people driving on pavements to overtake and doing crazy shit , be careful.
    3. Level of English is lower than imagined- much lower than in Europe so be prepared to use google translate in majority of scenarios about 80% wont speak good enough English to have basic conversation maybe this is just Bin Duong idk but is very hard to understand their accents.
    4. Kids/teens will approach you as a man in an inappropriate way at times high school kids were approaching me which would never happen in west. Kid in class made inappropriate sexual comments and requests which fits wider picture I have observed.
    5. Litter is very bad and streets are awful for pedestrians in certain areas.
    Despite all that I live in very good accomodation for cheap , the people are hospitable and you can have very good experiences here and alot of fun.
    If you have never been to Asia it is alot to adapt to.

      binh duoung and bien hoa are more or less shitholes. They tell new teachers they are only recruiting there (but they are lying). The recruiters gets more money to send teachers to undesirable places.
      With ILA and VUS they had to offer 10 million a month bonus for teachers to move there as theres no motive to be there over Saigon

      You would need to take an IELTs too, but otherwise meet the government requirements. Hiring decisions are ultimately the decision of schools, but it sounds like you'd have a good shot at securing employment.

    I really enjoy your content. Another vlog said that you can pick extra jobs on the weekends? Is this true? Also are there many barriers for women older than 55but younger than 65 working in Vietnam???

    • @ninja.teacher
      @ninja.teacher  Před 8 měsíci

      You can work multiple jobs in Vietnam so long as you have the correct paperwork to do so. Unfortunately, the retirement age in Vietnam is 55 for women, which means it can be more challenging as a foreigner to secure work around or above that age.

    I heard English Language is no longer a compulsory subject for high school leavers seeking to enter the tertiary level (from 2025), how true is that? And if that's true, will that be the end of ESL teaching in Vietnam?

    • @ninja.teacher
      @ninja.teacher  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I believe high schoolers can now opt to pick their subjects and don’t have to take English, yes. This is just small segment of the ESL market, though, as there’s still primary and secondary as well the huge private ESL market at English centers. Also, most parents will probably still tell their children to take English for high school as it will give them far more opportunities. 🙂
