2:29 He didn't stepped down. He actually stepped forward when no one would. Now that's a hero.
I agree 🌷🌷🌷🌷
Nah they need to pay drivers more
A hero simply for taking a job? WOW we have really lowered our standards. Guess the nice lady fixing my sandwich tonight was a hero. Quick, somebody give her the Nobel prize.
👌🏾👏🏾
@@tira2145 your parents were heroes for not burying a treasure like you
Safest bus in America lol
How
@@xLiLtEmPeR If you need an explanation....
Don't bet on this " being the safest bus ". The first time he tells a kid to sit down , the parent will sue him. There is a reason that people don't want to drive a school bus. Would you want to drive around a bunch of unruly, entitled kids around AND be held personally responsible because someones kid fell in the aisle?
@@xLiLtEmPeR Because its always waxed. LOL
@@darkeyezs if you think one fbi agent is going to stop things
This is what America should be. Are we not tired of the selfishness that seems so depressingly pervasive yet? Seems to me Mike still wants to do the the right thing....and retirement is not going to stand in his way. Still a hero.
Defund the popo
You go mike thank you for your service😇
@a97304
right back at you
Well said this is the America I love and this is the America we need the most specially now days.
That's what you call"Humility". Thank you and God bless.
Why is it humility? I live in Germany and being a bus driver is a well respected decent job. But we have Democratic socialism here. People are not looked down on because of their job. Every job is important. Every job gets paid holidays, paid sick leave, paid parental leave and health care. Every job bc it’s the law.
My late friend Dianne Milhollin had the best definition of "humble" that I've ever heard: "teachable."This man was fourth from the top of the FBI yet has no problem with learning something new that many would consider beneath them after having been at his level in the government. That's what I would call humble.
The gracious nature of this man is amazing 👏 🙌 ❤ 😄😊😇
My grandfather drove a school bus, in retirement, too. He brought his bus home to clean and wax it. He had the cleanest bus in the yard. Standards matter.
Please tell you grandfather I appreciate what he did. He is a hero and God bless him always 🙏🙏🙏
I’d trick out my bus
sure he did
@@KSCPERFECT it's true .. he used to do it next door to my grandma who was 5 years older and brought her bus home too.. the only real difference worth mentioning is she changed her own oil too
This guy is a legend.
It so important! He’s driving our children! I’d feel safe allowing him to take my kids! Thank you!!
I agree
Yikes!
Lol don't they defend pedophiles in power
@@h_3_x_
You mean the 31 Republicans in congress and Trump's cabinet that were convicted of child sex crimes? Or Trump himself being the only one named with Jeffrey Epstien on a child trafficking case...Katie Johnson. Bill Clinton hasn't even had that honor 🙄
You trust the government? Imagine trusting an ex fbi agent… lol
Now this is an example of being a humble man!!! Thank you sir!!!
He is a leader-servant!! What an awesome example for leading, serving and protecting. Take notes current law enforcement officers...
Wow toxic
Great guy! I'm a School Bus driver his same age (WITHOUT his sterling pedigree!). Two thumbs up, Sir!
To both of you!
Much respect to all the school bus drivers
👍🏽👍🏽 to you
You are both awesome!
Thank You 🙏🏼
OMG, an EX- TOP FBI driving your kids to school, this is wonderful !!
The safest bus in America.
You won't have to worry about a thang
As a school bus driver for 42 years! I can say this school bus drivers aren’t paid enough and their responsibilities are tremendous
I am proud to say that i always ignore your stop signs.
Thanks for your service!!
Not really
@@001looker I am proud to say that you should be behind bars.
@@SunsetChaser300 keep dreaming, enjoy my bird when i pass you.
This dude took the time and energy from his retirement to work for people in need. That’s incredible
Thank you Sir and your commitment to our Country. Both as a Serviceman and now to our children.
Modeled American! I would be so proud to call him a friend, co-worker, dad, husband, grandpa, and My Bus 🚌 Driver 💜
Are all the other bus drivers model Americans too?
@@RynMayhem
Depends on the bus driver. Not all bus drivers are the same, as with any profession or job.
Your question says alot about you.
Good for you Mike! After I retired I volunteered, I spent 8 years helping women get better skills to get a job or a better job. Very rewarding.
He's such an inspiration.
There was a CIA agent that went to become a USPS mail delivery man
Really tell us all more....
Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke.
solid dude, any nation would be proud to have someone like that serve their nation.
He's still young and the kids need him!💗
Service is service. FBI big wig or bus driver. I couldn’t just sit on my porch all day either. Good on him :)
God Bless you Mike Mason! What a man!🥰
Thank you Steve Hartman for keeping my tear ducts in proper shape!!😢
Fantastic segment. ❤❤❤
Heartwarming story, we need more stories like this on the news.
Aww...hes a precious soul!❤...much respect sir!
Massive respects & the definition of humbleness goes him 100%
Omg that’s just the sweetest thing! Good for him! My dad is a retired fire lieutenant and he spends his retirement as chairman of the school board at the district I went to as a kid. And he goes to read to the little kids too
The fact he mentions of how important education is a key.
He is a Marine. That is just how we roll. Semper Fi, brother and welcome home.
“Stepping back down to the bottom rock”
Ser, being a school driver is not a rock
Thanks CBS for calling the school bus drivers of america the bottom rung on the latter. We are treated as that by the administrators at the school districts of America everyday. There is no punishment for bad behavior anymore in the school districts. That is why all of us veteran bus drivers are retiring or going to work somewhere else where we don't have to deal with unruly, woke children in this bizarre world.
@@reserved845 same difference, it’s degrading to put school bus drivers at the bottom.
I watched Joe Kenda the detective from Colorado, he retired from being a cop and became a school bus driver.
Like him it’s probably the first job they have when people are happy to see them.
What an honorable man and role model. Thank you for your continued service! (-from another veteran, who hopes to still give back to the community after my retirement) Also, thank you to the other school bus drivers!
He has a golden heart !!!
True Legend. Vs Instagram and tik tok influencers our kids worship. Thanks Steve for highlighting ppl who really matter in this world.
God bless him. What a good human being.
Such good man, may God bless him. 💙
This is a hero worthy of Presidential Medal of Freedom. Humility and true service are lessons that need to be held up and honored in our current culture of self-absorption and self-promotion.
I love this!!! He is definitely a VIP!! ❤️👏
Such a great man
What a pleasant man. Love that he's doing this 🚌
Wooow...I watching this news smile my self. I love this guy..., appreciate it..💙👍
The secrets he must know. The safest bus driver
I was a school bus driver for a year and it was one of the only jobs I really enjoyed. Your employer treats you good, positive environment, drivers have a sense of community with each other, you get to build and flex some dad skills my daughter loved me being a driver
That's the most wholesome thing ever 😌 💕
I served with Mike back in 1982-1983 in the 3rd AAB Bn at Camp Pendleton. He was always a class act.
Reporter says "by stepping back down to the bottom rung" pretty much sums up why folks don't pursue this line of work....your literally doing a very important job. But, sadly our society doesn't see it that way. Hence the incredibly low pay. And high turn over....
High society doesn’t see helping kids as top anything and this is why a lot of their own spoiled kids end up criminals and drug addicts because the damn parents were too busy drinking champagne and rubbing shoulders with the elite to care.
Amazing dude! Wish I was that successful in life! He definitely deserves all he has!! Eye opening story!
Now this. This man is a legend
Thank you for your continued service!
Thank you for your services Sir.
I worked in the legal field for 20 years....this is one of the most amazing stories I have ever come across...God bless this man....truly an amazing human being!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping those in need!
What a humble man. I take my hat off for you sir
very humble person.
Mike. You are incredible!
Thank you sir for your services to our country and the kids
What a terrific guy!
"Service is a lifetime commitment". Kudos to him. Thank you sir for ALL your service to our country! The good you do for ONE of us, you do for ALL of us!
O Man great great great thank you very much almost every Friday you make me proud but today is very special MR STEVE HARMAN my thanks to CBS evening news may god bless you and your family thank you for sharing
Just wow, God bless him. I am in awe that somebody with his credentials would do this.
I worked in the same company that Mike retired from. While his title started with a “C”, he was so incredibly down to earth and a wonderful person. I was so pleasantly surprised to see this segment but it didn’t surprise me at all. You go Mike! What an inspiration!
One couls only hope to live a life that great. What a blessing.
What a beautiful soul 💖 May God bless you always 🙏🏻
Simply Beautiful ❤️
Makes my heart swell...The kids are lucky to have you.🌞
Thank you Mr Mason for your continued service. God Bless you. 🙏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🥰
Very inspiring and humble servant who didn’t lose himself in titles or positions. We should all be willing to answer the call when a need, that we have the ability to meet, arises.
I drove school buses when I was in high school (yes, this was allowed at that time) and in college. I have worked in IT for major and lesser known employers since then for many years. The only job I have ever had that was more fulfilling than driving a school bus was serving jury duty in a child sexual molestation case. The bus driver job was *perfect* experience for the training I needed to listen to small children testify. When you drive a bus it is not lost on you that you might have to put your life on the line for those children. In jury duty I did just that. All of our alternate jurors dropped. I wasn't about to drop, but if I had that would have resulted in a mistrial. After three days of deliberation, we found the accused man guilty. The judge pronounced him as a class H felon for the State of North Carolina. For me, I consider Victoria Soto as my personal hero.
It takes a village! I think it's great! What a beautiful story! Can we please have more of these?
Love ur attitude Mike Mason's. GOD bless 🙏🏻❤🙏🏻
Bless him. Beautiful story. Thank you for taking this position. We need more people like you.
This is not uncommon. I work with an actor who was an Engineer in his 20s after graduating college at age 22, then sometime in his 40s he went back to school and became a College Professor, then in his 60s got into Acting and is now working as an Actor. I don't think anyone has one job their entire lives...according to research, on average a person will change careers 5 to 7 times in their lifetime.
Awesome, purely selflessly serving his community!!
Thank you Mr. Mike!
Very cool story. For a really good and fine man.
thank you we love u from new jersey and thank u so much
This is what real leadership looks like. This is what true empathy looks like. This is what a hero looks like.
True American hero , god bless you sir & thank you for your service .
Now this is a real gentleman ♥️♥️♥️
This is how we should be doing, retirement is just part of life and it doesn't mean that we sit on a couch watching tv all day. We can be productive by doing some jobs in our community. Actually, it is also had a good health benefits to our body.
That’s my uncle mike always teaching life values
A life well lived, an absolute hero. And donated his salary? Unbelievably gifting to people.
What a blessing! And by him being a blessing not only driving a school bus but driving a school bus for special needs, and to put the icing on the cake, he's donating all of his salary to various charities, The Lord will bless him in return. This man is not doing it for the income but because I don't think retirement is in his vocabulary & he has a very big heart of love💜
What a kick a$$ guy! Best combination of heart and mind!
what a amazing person.
Bravo CBS! These incredible stories are needed more than ever.
What an awesome example of a very fine man, citizen and role model!
When he retires from being a bus driver, it may not sit well with him. Next job, Walmart greeter 🔆
Fantastic. The man is an inspiration.
Good man I’m happy to see the love being spread.
That's an admirable man right there. Top notch.
This guy is a man of a kind
He is very active and hard working which is special.
This guy deserves the respect of every US citizen
" There are no unimportant jobs ". Greatest statement for the times we live in.
What a beautiful person.
Cool!
This is nice to hear. Those kids dont even know what they have in the drivers seat.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 TRULY touching. What a beautiful, selfless spirit he has. The world needs more people like him
Truly an American hero! God bless him.
Thank you sir for doing this and teaching all of us huge lesson. Respect!
Wow, he is an amazing man. His life gives a new meaning to the old saying, "aging gracefully"!🙌🙌🙌💖
He he's doing the right thing being safe then being sorry God bless him
