    This video was exactly what I needed - thank you! I am 66 years old and have cooked on electric my entire life. Recently moved to a new home with a GE gas stove (and no manual). Having you explain in detail about my stove has brought me a level of comfort I did not have. I had avoided using the oven until now - but no more. Again, thank you.

      I'm in the same boat! I'm 67 and every oven I have ever used just had a simple knob. I have been living with this stove for nine months and tonight is the first time I ever got brave enough to try to figure out how to use the oven. It is the Sunday night before Thanksgiving! I am so grateful for this video, and for the simple way that you show and explain things.

      My whole life I only saw gas stoves. I hate electric. I don't know how to set an electric stove to bake banana bread or oatmeal cookies! When I had a gas stove it came out great. Electric? The middle was not done and if I left it in for the middle to be done then the outter was compromised, not soft and just messed up! I give up.. No more baking until I get a gas stove. I am 59 and I never heard of or saw an electric stove until maybe 10 years ago.

I live in a rooming house whose residents are all men 'of a certain age', and when our landlady recently replaced our old stove with a brand new GE gas oven she discarded the operating manual, so none of us knows how to use the stove! 65 years old and I have always had an electric stove. My landlord bought a new stove for the house I am renting. Never used the broiler because I physically can't get down on my knees to do so. The broiler is 1" off the floor under the oven compartment. My husband had to literally lay on the floor to wipe out any dust that may have accumulated over the past 2 years. My novice advice to anyone, get an oven with the broiling unit inside the oven like yours! Trust me, your back and knees will thank you. Your video was very informative. One thing we decided on was to read the kitchen fire extinguisher BEFORE we heated up the broiler for the first time. I found your channel to be worthy of subscribing. Thanks so much from up in the Northwoods.

    Omgosh! Thank you so much for your basic tutorial on how to use a touch screen control panel for a gas stove/oven. I just moved to an apartment, which has an older gas cook stove (i haven't used a gas cook stove in 48 years). The broiler in my stove is in the bottom tray; and, it also provides the burner heat source for the oven. There is no owners manual, and maintenance hasn't responded yet. My initial CZcams searches -- resulted in "replace and repair" of igniters. Finally, with the right words, I found your tutorial! So happy! Your instructions gave me the info to understand how the touch screen works for a (gas) stove and confidence needed. I was able to get both the oven and broiler to light. As Elvis would say, Thank you. Thank you very much.

    Great video. I just purchased a GE stove and it is all new to me. I too dislike a self cleaning oven. Happy mine does not have that feature. I was using the broiler on my like forty year old stove and it locked up the gas and kept it open. I had to use the line valve to shut off the gas. I think with using the self cleaning feature it puts a strain on your stove and shortens it's life. Keep up the good videos!

    Thank you for posting this. I am from an Asian family that we almost never use the oven in my life. I moved to Europe for studying and I need to learn how to use an oven to make my life easier, since most of the cooking stuff and skills I can do in my country are no longer useful here. I felt frustrated because I cook quite well when I was back home. BTW, I really want to read the manual, but there is no manual if you rent an apartment with an installed oven. So, I started how to cook when I arrived. Luckily, I can handle most of the them but the OVEN, haha. Now, at least I know what to buy and at least the basic concept. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    • @BlackHillsMommy
      @BlackHillsMommy  Před 2 lety +12

      I’m our case some grease had spilled into the bottom of the oven and that ignited since it dripped right next to one of the heat sources. The best thing you can do if you are making something that looks like it could spill over is to either line the rack below it with tinfoil or place an empty cookie sheet on the lower rack to catch any of those kinds of spills so they don’t get too close to the heat and start a fire. The other thing is to always remember how to put out different kitchen fires and even keep a small fire extinguisher nearby. Remember, never put water on a grease fire, either smother it or use a base such as baking soda to put it out.

    Thank you!! Very helpful. After Preheat is done and beeps and the 350 is on the display, is this when set the cook time like 20 mins to bake a cake? or do you set the cook time from the initial setup to bake?

    Thank you so much.However i have a question .Why does my oven goes on and off with a puff and then flames on and off? 🤔

    • @BlackHillsMommy
      @BlackHillsMommy  Před 4 lety +3

      The puff sound is the gas turning on an off with the flame going on and off, it does that to help regulate the temperature inside the oven. Think of it like the heater or air conditioner in your house, if it ran non-stop it would become too hot or cold in your house but instead it runs long enough to reach the desired temperature and then kicks back in when that changes and needs another ‘boost’ to get it to stay where you told it to.

    Hi. The video was very helpful. My question - when you use the cook time it’s supposed to turn off the oven, does it turn the oven off and why does it keep beeping until you actually cancel it. If I left something in the oven while not in the kitchen does the beeping stop?

    • @BlackHillsMommy
      @BlackHillsMommy  Před 4 lety

      Hi Joan! To be honest, I’ve never used the cook time as this large of a family doesn’t give for many opportunities to step away like that because we usually have to alter recipes so the cook times vary more. I do believe though that it beeps because it acts as a timer to let you know that it is done and can now be removed at your convenience. As for still beeping when you leave the kitchen, I would look at that like the age old question of ‘if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?’, which means it will likely continue but you just won’t hear it if you are not close enough. Hope that helps!
