    I love this machine❣️
Bought it new around 1975 and sewed many clothes/crafts for my family

I have this exact machine, bought new in the mid-70s. It has never needed any repairs, just routine maintenance like oiling and cleaning. It's upstairs in my sewing room right now. I think I'll go finish my latest project!

Your video ended in the middle of a sentence - you were talking about the particular model.......then it ends 😞 Your commentary is so interesting. I am a little addicted to old singers and do not like plastic machines. I am tempted collect some machines like you are showing us but I am happy to hear that you have bought it instead of I 🙂and I get to save space and get to hear your fantastic commentary. It is really a history on manufacturing and how to care for the machines. Thank you for sharing.

I can say a 158.19410 is low shank versus the 19411 and 19412 which are super high shank.

Was on a short road trip and found a 19311 last week for $60 with a full set of cams, attachments, etc. The only issue was the feed dog lever didn't have any effect. Had to spend a good hour getting oil in and exercising things to get the dogs to drop. I have everything in working order now, but was wondering if you might do a maintenance video on that for these free arm Kenmore's as it seems to be a common issue.

UHHH! I so miss my table for my Kenmore. IF you ever come across one of the tables or even the machine with the table I would love to get first dibs. Yes mine has the metal base. I got mine for my 11th Christmas and still sew on it today. I lost the feet when the husband got rid of the table... along with ALL! of my owners manuals to all my machines.

I love it, the free arm on the 1941 etc, but i love my 158.1516 becaue of the all metal and external motor and cam options..if it had a free arm i would never look back at any machine!

I have a 158-19412, and have overhauled a 158-19410. If you look up how to date a Kenmore sewing machine, you'll find that the last digit indicates time of production. The 158-19412 was made in 1977. The 158-19410 was around 1975. The difference that I found was where the release button for the base was. The early version is like yours, with the release button in the front. The 1977 version has the button on the rear of the deck. The locating pin also increased in length with the newer model. No difference in operation.

I think the video didn't upload correctly (it stops mid-sentence), but so far it's fascinating. I'm trying to learn how to look after my mother's machine and the subject of metal vs. plastic components is key, or at least that's how I see it.

Hello, I was recently gifted a 1931 model. It looks identical to the 1941 other than mine has cams. I've searched and can't confirm that they're the same machine other than the cams mine comes with. I've also been told the 1760 is the same machine but with even more cam choices and accessories. Would you be able to explain the differences between these specific models for me? Thank you so much!

Nice machine. Was this supposed to end so abruptly? Love how your dog only shows us his paws, too! Oh wait, I think I see his nose at the end.

How do send you a direct question? My clutch handle is locked. I can’t unlock it to wind my bobbin? I’ve taken the screw out but it still doesn’t move? I had it serviced a few years ago but I’ve moved & have no way to contact that biz to ask what he did. I suspect he knew about it or did something to lock it because the bobbin part is chipped as though someone tried to pry it off.

I have one, and a .1931 that takes cams for even more stitches, and frankly, I'm a little underwhelmed. Sure, they're built well; sure, they are a LOT of bang for the buck and a fantastic value. But they do have a couple weak spots and deliver what I consider a very mediocre straight stitch. And, in fairness, the internals are very easy to access and maintain. But the G.O.A.T? I dunno. I think the jury's still out on that.
