      The stator has a higher output on the adventure model, so if you are going to run a lot of electronics, GPS, Phones, Camera's, Auxiliary Lights, Heated Seat and/or Grips, I'd go that way. I haven't priced nor checked for compatibility with the stock bike, but maybe swapping stators would be an R&R. I would think Swanky would be wanting the extra watts.

    I have to agree 100% although the ADV adds a bunch of accessories. Everything included is sub par for off-road heavy KLR650 use. Part of the fun of a klr is the customization of the bike to your individual needs.When I bought my klr it got scratched on delivery- the delivery shop freaked and offered to get me another bike. I laughed and said fill it with gas’s and through in a case of oil and forget about it. Lol, I was ecstatic as I knew I was gonna scratch it on my first day anyway so it took away the self loathing for making the first scratch. Btw, I did scratch it and drop it first day. I blamed it on the full Tank of gas. Lol
    So smart move passing up the second rate accessories and putting on some top shelf heavy duty choices. Money saved in the long run if you ask me.
    Since it’s the holidays, I’d like to wish you and Honey-Badger and all the swanky folks in your family a happy holiday and a safe and healthy new year.

      @@texashillcountryadv9197 wow with 4 bikes and a combined mileage close to 40,000km this year. I challenge the 3k part- the old fart part I’m ok with I’ve earned that from the scars and lessons learned. I stand by my comments and feel sorry that your argument is so weak that you resort to name calling to make it. If your happy with the accessories you got with your KLR great, but try and open mind. Look at what you paid then source out real aftermarket accessories designed for the rigours of real Adv riding. I’m sure you’ll find that yes you’ll pay more, but a single drop and fixing it with water won’t hack a 30ft slide down a hillside or a 50mph crash in sand even. I can guarantee that the bars that came on the 22KLR 660 ADV won’t protect your plastics like a real crash bar setup from, Tusk, Givi, SE-Motech, or dirtracks. Just compare the quality and size or the options. I have a friend who bought the full 22 setup and he was happy with it till a real fall took out his bars and 1700$ in plastics. Ripped his bags to peices and the mounting points as well. I’m sending him your response for directions on how to fix and a gallon of distilled water.

    • @Surly1966
      @Surly1966 Před rokem

      @@texashillcountryadv9197 look at the date on the original post. At the time getting a new 22 was difficult and it wasn’t uncommon to pay above msrp or to have to order a new KLR at full msrp plus sellers add. Used and or reduced KLRs change the math and I still agree with Bens purchase and that it’s fun to build out your own KLR650 and that at the time buying the ADV was a bit of a rip off-? reduce the price reduce the loss, a a lower purchase price you can put up with sub par - it does look great and warranty is ok. I’d be interested how many users have actually used warranty on a KLR. I know I had two Kawasaki’s that had 0 work done under warranty- actually have had 0 work done( only maintenance) my voyager has never been back to the shop except for the time I was too lazy to change the rear tire. My KLR was only for an issue with the base pan plug- but that was well after warranty. Warranty is nice but truth is at the time of the response above the price difference between a new and good used was more substancial. I’d buy the 2022 now not for the add ons but for the fuel injection. That’s the true value of the gen 3.

    I highly recommend the Metzeler Sahara Enduro 3 tires. They are the tires that carry the Old Africa Twin, as well as South American Honda models, such as the Tornado 250 or the XRE 300, which give us so much satisfaction to users. They have a very good commitment both off-road and on asphalt, having a very good grip even in wet or dusty conditions and providing a lot of safety when leaning the bike in curves. Although they are not so recommended for deep mud (which you will rarely go through with that bike, I assume) and if you are an aggressive rider, they last less than the rest of the tires due to their slightly soft composition.
    They are really awesome if your biggest use is around town, ride with some fun and even long trips.
    In terms of colors, orange is the one I like the most, and I also like that it is minimalist, with a single fairly small label that serves to identify the model. The good thing about this is that it allows you to later decorate it to your liking, being able to combine it with another color of accessories that you add, such as protection stickers on the tank. Perhaps it lacks color at the rear, because it seems that they were two halves of different motorcycles... perhaps some light blue or violet, which recalls the first models with a vintage touch, perhaps some detail in orange, even an orange fluorescent, which contrasts with the one you already have, and take the opportunity to put the driver's data (or something similar, that is to say that it is a functional aggregate)... I don't know, it's a matter of trying...
    Greetings from Argentina.

    I think you got this all wrong 100%. For the type of riding that you described, you got the wrong bike. First, I will describe what I think Kawasaki was thinking when they created the different trims, then I will describe how that whole scheme fits the needs of someone like me. 1. The basic model, for the one with just enough cash to buy the bike, no frills, just cheap thrills. 2. The traveler, for the commuter, you ride your bike to work every day, you need the ports to charge your phone and GPS, and you need a trunk to bring your lunch to work and to bring a gallon of milk for your kids on your way back home, the bike will never leave the pavement. 3. The adventure model is for the passionate rider, that will travel the distance, looking for comfort, long range, and who might end up traversing unknown dirt roads where the bike could fall down so it needs some level of protection and where there won't be no streetlights, so the fog lights will be a life saver. The only thing that makes no sense is the limitation in colors, all colors should be available for all trims. I hate that dull malted finish that is popular these days with the Toyota Tacoma. I like to see some spice, that metal flakes on the finish, so I do not like that weird orange or that desert storm sand color. I am being forced to buy the adventure model just so that I can get the color I like. With regard all the cheap thrills accessories included with the adventure model. Yes, it is disappointing the low quality of the panniers, but here is the value on a ready to go adventure model. Time is money. No need to order anything or touch a wrench. You seem to have a lot of time on your hand, energy, motivation and money to be ordering top quality parts online, and wrenching. At this point in my life, I just don't have the energy nor the time to be messing with stuff, I don't know how much time I have left on this earth, so time is of essence. I don't need the best ever made crash bars or panniers; I just need it to be good enough and ready to be enjoyed. Commodity and convenience have a price to be paid. Kawasaki has a difficult dilemma to resolve, how to provide a package that is ready to go and affordable, the solution was cheap accessories. Conclusion, if you are going to need more heavy-duty crash bars for the type of drops you are anticipating, then you are on the wrong bike. Moving on... Here is my story, I have a wonderful Suzuki SV650, very fun bike, plain with no thrills, that I use to commute to work every day. It has no storage, so I have to carry everything on my book back, heavy on my back. Winter has arrived, now I ride often in the dark, I need some extra lighting. It is getting colder; my hands are freezing. I started wasting time researching how to improve the SV650 to serve better my needs, order a bunch of stuff from amazon, none of it really fit or worked well and had to send back. In the end the KLR Adventure seems like a better route, it comes ready with everything that I need, panniers that are good enough to bring my lunch to work, store an extra jacket, bring my SLR camera, etc. It has a faring, windshield and hands guards for the 3AM windchill of cold mornings. It has all the ports to power my Garmin GPS and keep my phone charged. It comes with extra fog lights for the 3AM dark country roads I traverse. For the weekend's trek, it has a 6-gal tank compared to the 2.9 gal on the SV650. It is not a dirt bike, but if the pavement ends, I don't need to turn around like I do on the SV650, I can just go on the dirt. And if I drop it while on the dirt, it comes with some level of protection included. So, for my situation, I would happily pay the extra $1K, to be able to enjoy all the frills without ordering any parts or touching a wrench. It is as a complete a package for the intended user base. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, waiting to sell the SV650, but I am convinced the KLR Adventure is the best option for my needs.

    Fastest color is the candy lime green they're coming out with for 2023. LOL. If it was available in the Adventure model I was thinking about it but why pay for minimal protection? Need to figure out which crash bar protection to go with and then figure out the additional lighting thing after that. Would like to have 2 seperate power options but I see you did the 12v port with USB thing. Maybe I'll spend the Kawi tax to buy their factory items but that's a lot of coin when there are other options. Not as clean maybe. I'll drop my local shop to see about ordering up a bike but may not be there this year to ride it which is a warranty waster. Ok, on to your crash bar video. Thanks.

    The ADV model luggage's are rubbish. What would be helpful is to have a quick spreadsheet and add the cost of all accessories that you add on your STD model vs the price of the ADV all equipped. I would only list the one that would bring it to the same level as the ADV and not list the one that you would have potentially add on both models (i.e., heated grips, foot pegs etc.). Cheers!

      You can lower the seat but to be honest If the seat height is that much of a problem I would suggest you take a look at the Honda Cb 500x It's in the same general price It's range and it's a little bit lighter, It's less offroad capable than the KLR however it is a bit shorterStarting off.

      Oh that's right the Traveler did come with the 12 volt plug didn't it! I think you can get the same plug from Kawasaki for $100 or so if that interests you at all. Should have wires ready to plug into behind the plastics. Might need a relay too but that just plugs right into a clip that's there waiting for you.

  • @TerryMasri
    @TerryMasri Před 2 lety +1

    I'm fascinated by how you managed to film yourself and the bike at this angle! It's clear how you did it by the boom that's visible from the helmet or body mounted camera, but what's intriguing is that the boom is invisible from the perspective of the camera mounted on the boom. It feels as if it's floating in air or if someone else is riding ahead of you at the same speed taking the footage. What an enigma!
    As to the KLR, its' iconic status is apparent from all the YT reviews I've watched but I just can't get over its' ugly duckling look. MAN is this bike ugly or what? I think it's hands down the ugliest bike humans ever managed to produce since the advent of motorized 2-wheeled vehicles. I don't mean to offend anyone here. This is just my OBJECTIVE opinion, so don't get defensive and get all offended if you happen to like and/or own this bike. Did I mention how ugly this thing is? LOL

    • @corradolaera1382
      @corradolaera1382 Před 2 lety

      I was going to post the same thing about not seeing the boom from the camera lol. It must automatically negate it

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  Před 2 lety

      Corrado is correct, it's got super wide angle lenses on each side of it and they over lap where the the stick is mounted and the camera automatically cuts them out.
      As for the looks of the KLR, the gen2 took a while to grow on me as I was used to looking at sport bikes, dirt bikes and cursers. A rally style windshield and a few other things really improve the look of it but it's still a bit of an odd looking machine. I think the Gen3 will look much better with a rally style windshield too but honestly I think it's a pretty good looking bike, much better than both it's predecessors. But I get what you mean it it still is a bit of an odd duck comparatively.

    Well for one I Do Not agree with your word "Scam", And with the mass shortage of things the KLR and many other bikes is no different, There are only a few to be had out there!. Iv'e checked US wide. Many dealers can't get em, Others have even met their dealer quota, getting other model bikes to spread the wealth to keep the dealers in business.. And the ones that do may only get 1 or 2 for the year thats it!. Then you can't be choosey of what models they have or will get!. So that just blew the mud and smoke back up your tail pipe kiddo.. I just bought my 3rd. klr on july 30th 22. And it's the beautiful black adventure. The Dealer i got it from can't get no more. So if ya want one grab any one you can!. On the color front, Another dealer 30 miles away has one like yours, But that puke color orange made me gag!. Reminds me of a kid that barfed up a tequila sunrise!. Last, If i wanted to do off road dirt riding/ motocross/ enduro racing and big hill climming like i did at least 30 years before you were born, I would have bought a lite weight 450cc + pure dirt bike and a trailer/pickup and still at my age make ya eat dirt as we said back then... As far as i see, your just a beginner Kiddo...
