About Over The Garden Wall:
On an adventure, brothers Wirt and Greg get lost in the Unknown, a strange forest adrift in time. A wise old woodsman and bluebird Beatrice help them find their way. Along the way, Wirt's thoughts envelope him, while the wonder of the surroundings preoccupy Greg. The miniseries -- based on creator Patrick McHale's cartoon short "Tome of the Unknown" -- features animation that evokes a nostalgic storybook feeling, inspired by folk art and classic illustrations. The voices include Elijah Wood and Christopher Lloyd with Samuel Ramey, Chris Isaak and John Cleese among guests.

What I *adore* about this piece and the scene in general is that little *"ding"* that comes with Wirt's realization that he is indeed being manipulated into making the same mistake as the Woodsman.
i knew i wasn't the only one who heard the ding sound!
"jason funderberker... the perfect frog name"
lets be real this line made us burst into tears
I WAS BAWLING I COULDN'T KEEP IT IN MAN
TRUEEE
Nah it was “you have to return it for me Wirt”
Greg knew that he wasn’t going to make it. He knew he was going to die. To see a kid like him lose hope and yet still be so cheerful is the most heartbreaking thing this show could have done
the "i'm a stealer" part is when i start crying
Ive Seen this show a billion times and I will never NOT cry
Greg: No (cough! Spits leaves out of his mouth), I was just eatin’ leaves.
A goofball through and through.
What a great show.
I genuinely didn't hear this during the episode...now that I've discovered it, the scene feels way more depressing and hopeless...
Greg's cheerful tune being transformed into something dark and gloomy, sad even...representing his sacrifice for his brother, dark and sad...
But...it gets happy near the end...? It sounds bittersweet by the end...to represent the fact that Wirt showed up, and finally thought ahead of the Beast? Who knows, but that's what I feel...
It definitely has the feel of a funeral dirge.
@@oskarrobinson9685 to make it sounds more ominous. Things always sound ominous in latin
I think you're taking it too seriously the reason his death song is potato and molasses is to remind you that's it's a fun show
@@nathanjohnson5088 *_"Just another goofy episode filled with silly jokes for kids!"_*
@@oskarrobinson9685 because it's greg's cheerful tune turned into a requiem or "Mass for the dead" (Latin: Missa pro defunctis), wich "is a Mass of the Catholic Church offered for the repose of the soul or souls of one or more deceased persons, using a particular form of the Roman Missal." and yes, this makes it even more sad :(
I can’t think of much else in this world that capture my interest like over the garden wall
Why is it so captivating??? I can’t stop thinking about this show. I have watched it over 7 times in just a few months.
@@cody4942 idk about you guys but I find it so captivating because I crave the feeling of exploring the world in this time era.
I totally agree. I've seen it twice in as many weeks and I still find myself wanting to come back to it.
@@cody4942I find this world interesting because it reminds me of old fairytales. Something about the art style just does it for me.
It’s such a charming show, and it’s literally the epitome of the beauty of fall, it’s simply the BEST
2:07 I love how they included this 'ding' sound in the song, as it's the moment Wirt realizes what's really going on, and finally 'wakes up' from the Beast's dream and sees his way home.
Isn't this the song that plays when Greg almost turns into a tree???
Yes it is 😪
Yes. Potatoes and Molasses in Latin
No, he was just eating leaves.
Yes. The saddest scene it almost made me cry
I didn't know! I didn't know this is where Greg's edelwood song came from!
Why is this show makes me cry all the time I watch the ending
Because it's so emotionally powerful
I thought playing this at 2x speed would make it resemble the normal version more. What I got instead is a distorted nightmare.
The Latin vocals DO sound more like the first song, actually!
JESUS CHRIST
WOAH
I actually like it a lot! It really is the normal version, kind of.
Everyone: come wayward souls
Me an intellectual: *_potatus et molassus_*
the beast's voice is incredible tho, you gotta give him that
Jolly Woodsman
crying my eyes out even many years later
same...
Same
and that's a rooock fact..
I'm not crying, I'm just allergic to sadness
I just watched this for the first time and I was so afraid that Greg was really going to die or Wirt would really be forced to become the new Lantern Bearer. I think a lot of that had to do with this song, it is just totally depressing and tragic until the very end with Wirt's "ahah!" moment
Worse, Greg was going to die and Wirt was going to be lanternbearer.
@@Bearbrawl141 originally it was considered for wirt to stay in the unknown and greg leaving.
@@alexanderchamberlain9285 I heard that.
First depressing song that I’ve heard in
latin
I have never been so emotionally shook by a song btw this is a new sinking feeling for me
The end is reminiscent of Chopin's Nocturne no.20. Even a lot of the melody of "Come Wayward Souls" seems inspired by that.
I kind if noticed that too but couldn't remember what Chopin song I was thinking of lol, thanks for reminding me
This song relaly does felel like something a dying child would sing as the cold finally takes them. This song unsettles you long after you are done hearing it. And it's second half legitimately sounds like the child iis dying and entering Heaven.
I'm not crying, I'm not sobbing, I'm not crying, I'm not sobbi-
🎶Grow, tiny seed🎶
🎶You are gone to the tree🎶
1:11 goosebumps
Thanks for uploading this, I can't believe they blocked it. >:(
The 'they' you're referring to is the one who uploaded this
I can t belive this Song is The same from The animal school episode
1:00 After this part, it goes wild
"Well then, perhaps we better make a deal?"
I have been looking for this song for a while
This is a great song ...err it's a rock fact!
I'd argue that rock facts are always incorrect... aren't they? And since this is unironically a great song... that can't be a rock fact!
I can’t find the words to describe my love for this 💯☮️❤️
i didn't cry during this scene, but it almost had me. amazing for a show on cartoon network fr
This is a beautiful song
genuinely one of the best soundtracks of all time
Oh man, my senses went high up with chills.
Eu e os meus manos aceitamos apenas a versão em latim.

“Greg? GREG!”

THIS ALWAYS MAKEES ME TEAR UP UGH
Cool a Latin version.
*don't cry don't cry don't cry don't cry don't cry*
Oh potatus et molassu, at klendathu, with nosferatu.
So funny story I watched this show in high school and I didn’t think it was scary till 5 years later I wake up with sleep paralysis and since I don’t see stuff in my paralysis as much as hear stuff I woke up hearing this creepy sad song blaring in my room so yeah now I’m scared of this cartoon 🙌
well the song is very sad even if it is the one with potatoes with molasses that scene is very sentimental more with his song
Pero que triste :(
This is in latin, I understand this. But it's so sad
What does it say?
@@CANINETHEROPY its mostly the original lyrics in latin
Half of the end is in English
@@hipreplacer7 a lot of it is part of Wayward Souls
GROW TINY SEED
One of the most beautiful details in this series was the character development of the two brothers. Wirt was initially abusive to Greg, not accepting and loving him as his brother. When Wirt and Jason Funderburcer left the tree hollow where Beatrice's family lived, Wirt realized she had no choice but to believe in herself. When they reach Greg, the scene where the monster transforms into one of his trees is Wirt saying "Come on, we have to take Jason Funderburcer home, right?)" this is where we get it: Wirt accepted and loved unconditionally himself, his brother, and Jason FB. and Greg's reply is "Oh Jason Funderburcer What a Great Frog Name".. these scenes are me It also evoked mixed, sad feelings and stunned me. and to be honest that scene where Wirt calls out to Greg to wake up, Greg wakes up saying "Wirt" and Wirt cries, I cried a lot, more than I've ever cried in my life. At the end of the journey it was as if Wirt and Greg had switched roles. Wirt was confident now, and Greg realized that sometimes in life, he had to be serious.
Nothing could better explain how unhappiness can actually be a source of happiness, and that there is always a light after dark, more candidly, frighteningly, and realistically than Overthe Garden Wall. OTGW gave the message "Do not lose hope" to all of us years ago in the most beautiful way and will continue to do so as long as we do not forget. OTGW Will always havea special, significant and heart break place for me.. FOREVA OTGW 🖤💔
AHHHH AT 2:08 A BELL RINGS AND I ALSO REMEMBERED THE QUOTE THAT “if you hear a bell ring an angel gets its wings” :(
"Give me my lantern"
It's almost like Emil - Sacrifice...
No please do go on.
Jason Funderburker!
is anyone up to writing a direct translation of this, or pointing me to one? tysm!
Apparently it's pretty much just a direct translation of the original version, just in Latin instead of English.
@@SpicePrincess1890 thanks!! i appreciate the answer :-)
