@@jamesmckinney6768 simply because the character is the main character is not a reason to make him the "best" character, what a narrow way of thinking. There is a reason vegeta, sasuke, bakugou, and kaiba are are typically loved more then their main characters. And that's because of there complexity and character development. When you compare them to the average shounen anime main character who's goals are all SUPER similar and overused. People love when they stray from the path a little bit and make their rivals unique. That is what makes kaiba a better character then yugi. Having clear flaws and using those flaws as amazing character traits. You can't think yugioh without thinking of kaiba.
Fun fact: kaiba battles his father complex in his duells. In 2008 the author takahashi talked about kaiba. He actually felt responsible for his fathers suicide and it "haunted him". This also triggered the thinking of games meaning death. His stepfathers dead and the lost of a foe to play "games" against also triggered some insanity.
2:15 There's so many examples of Kaiba's disdain toward Joey in the English dub that you could point to, but for some reason, one of my favorites has always been in the KC Grand Championship arc, when Kaiba specifically tells Mokuba to ensure Wheeler is late for the tournament registration process so that he'll be DQ'd from the whole tourney. That's just so absurdly petty and disrespectful, and I love it.

I theorize that the technology Kaiba uses is based on that, and that he tunneled into the afterlife (rather than into the past, or yet another simulation -- which he already expressed earlier in the movie would not be enough to sate his desire to beat the real Pharaoh.) Also, if it was a simulation, Mokuba wouldn't be so worried that Seto might not come back.

I think you missed Kaiba's character trait that deep underneath his stubbornness, arrogance, and selfishness, he has a caring heart. Particularly when Marik's slave was about to drop a container on Téa, Kaiba badass-ly snipes the goon's hand with his own Blue-Eyes card, then lunges a knee into the lackey before he can recover.
Shadow91507 Yeah I agree, like he had a really crappy childhood, I think I read somewhere that Gozaburo Kaiba actually used a dog training shock collar on Seto to keep him from falling asleep! Seto was secretly a sweetheart, he protected his brother from bullies at the orphanage, and although he got adoption offers all the time for being handsome and smart he never abandoned his brother, He stopped a billion dollar mass producing weapons company and turned it into a gaming company, he built a theme park that allows orphans to go in for free, I mean don't get me wrong he could be nasty at times but he's not heartless 😊

@@Shadow91507 Kinda surprised people miss those things. They're directly a part of his backstory. The "turning a weapons company into a gaming company" thing even comes up as a plot point during the Doma arc. Also, he completely defies a lot of the "typical Billionare CEO" behaviors. He pays his employees really well and he's always putting his money into big projects rather than sitting on it, plus he actually does his fair share of the work, personally designing and testing new products, rather than just getting his engineers to do everything.
Kaiba is my favorite character, and I can’t think of a single match he lost where the opponent wasn’t cheating by using a millennium item or a kidnapped mokuba to force his hand. Yugi - Millennium Puzzle Pegasus - Millennium Eye Dartz- Not really defeated because he saved yugi’s ass multiple times, and Dartz lost the duel. Plus Dartz was on some crazy magic oricalculator shit mayne Noah - Literally used Mokuba as a human shield to win, but still technically lost the duel after Yugi stepped in. Take away all the magic and he is the greatest duelist ever with no special abilities besides being obscenely rich and owning the biggest company in the world.
Kaiba was about to be wiped out by the rare hunters more than once but Yugi saved him. In the Dartz duel Yugi saved him again twice. A great character and excellent duelist but not the best.
Kaiba outright cheated by pulling the Blue-Eyes that he stole out of is pocket and top decked it in his first duel with Yami in the manga. And Millennium Puzzle grants no special dueling power in the manga.

It wasnt a time machine. He went to the Egyptian afterlife. That's why Atem smiled, he was welcoming a healthy friendly duel. Gotta remember in Atem's time duel monsters was a real battle. Having some random dude show up in the past I'm sure they would all get ready to kill seto but instead Atem smiled because he knew who seto was. How would Atem know him if seto traveled time? Therefore it wasnt the past it was just their version of an afterlife.

I always interpreted it as Kaiba was bluffing and was going to lose. The reason he smiled was something of a realization that he didn't need the Pharaoh because Yugi really was a fantastic duelist who bested both of them, and would be the one Kaiba can challenge and heal/mourn with in their own way. Then he got the cube and was like "Well, might as well settle the score anyways." Cause he comes back and at least works with Yugi as there was official art showing them in his space station together, creating Yugi's new game together. With Kaiba even looking happy.
After all those years, Seto Kaiba is still my biggest crush xD I fell in love with his character since Yu Gi Oh! first aired on German kids television.

Kaiba Corp, Kaiba Land, Duel Academy, Battle city, KCPG, Ener D research, Solid Vision, Duel Disks...besides his Duellist skills, Kaiba is by far (one of) the most iconic character of the franchise.
When I was a kid I used to hate this guy and Blue-Eyes but now I love him so much,he's my favorite Yugioh character and Blue-Eyes is my favorite deck to use! Ironic isn't it?
I think the only thing that stopped me from loving Kaiba from the start was his Episode 1 behavior and lack of sympathetic characteristics. Mokuba goes through his Duelist Kingdom experience, he and Kaiba are shown to legitimately care for each other, and the Battle City Finals showing that he's simply frustrated and has an actual deep connection to Blue Eyes all combined to make Kaiba my absolute favorite character in the series, with a Blue Eyes deck becoming my dream deck, not that I've actually played a single bit of Yugioh. When I saw BEUD, I was like "Whoa." When Kaiba became a character that I could love without the "but he's a bad guy" taboo, BEUD immediately became my most hyped card. The summoning soundtrack only helps.
i think he was smiling during his duel with yugi in DSOD cause know he knows he was going to lose and that yugi isnt just a shell for yami and he actually is a very skillful duelist he can respect.

I dunno, I got the impression the duel was interrupted solely so Yugi wouldn't lose. I have full confidence in the fact that Kaiba was going to win that duel had Aigami not shown up. The slow drop in Kaiba's life points, the smirk, and the fact that he still had a face down card all support this.
I know that very little thought had been put into how Duel Monsters would work if it was a real game at that point but I never understood why Kaiba didn't get a ton of more powerful cards like Barrel Dragon and Summoned Skull to fill out the deck. While cards like that seemed to be ridiculously rare, he seemed like he would be able to afford them.
He used Saggi the Dark Clown in The Dark Side of Dimension. I was like: “Ok Kaiba, if you really wanted to beat Pharaoh so badly, at least get that weak ass monster out of your deck!”
@Hans Hanzo nah, pegasus made the game but it didn't factor in to everything ppl did, then kaiba came in and gave it all the hologram tech and sponsored a shit load of events then built a goddamn academy, and that's just what we know of Kaibe was still young at the end of gx and we didn't really get much info on what he was doing
Man it is so good seeing this series again and starting of with the king of roasting other dualist Seto Kaiba is good he has some of the best roast in dual links in both his dual monster world as well as the new dark side of dimensions world which I thought that after 5ds we would have gotten zexal cause of the order of each series but this is better
Seto used the Millennium Cube and SCIENCE to travel to the afterlife, not the past. That's why he was the only person in Egypt being erased and why Atem was smiling, since Atem sealed his soul in a puzzle and had his name erased from history after banishing Zorc and all Duel Spirits/Monsters in people and coexisting with people for 3000 years up til Pegasus happened.

From what I've heard, Kaiba's face down card was actually Polymerization, which can be seen in his hand now and again during the Duel, and he never actually used, so he Set it. It's possible that he could have been grinning as he finally realized Yugi had grown as a Duelist and became worthy of challenging him.

And the sarcasm is hilarious LOL, I love that line but my favorite line from the waking the dragons arc is when he's talking to Yami and Yami tells him to accept his destiny and help them: "If I had a dime for every time you used the word destiny, I'd be even richer." 😂😂😂 I love that line LOL.
In the manga, too, Kaiba did ripped the fourth Blue Eyes White Dragon because the monster refused to obey him. This, therefore, made the common Yugioh rule of only 3 copies of the same card.
Regarding the Dark Side of Dimensions DNF of kaiba vs Yugi. Yugi won for 2 reasons 1) kaiba life points were going down in the damage calculation, not many cards can be activated if any, during damage calculation and since kaibas life points were 2500 and Dark Magician Atk was 2500 his poimts became 0 and kaiba lost. 2)when Seto is ritual summoning blue eyes chaos MAX dragon u can see Polymerisation in his hand and myslef and others have gone through the duel and the only card he could have set was poly (and kaiba is used to setting poly as he did in the battle city semi finals). So Yugi accurately called Kaiba bluff Which is probably the reason why kaiba was smiling as it was in acknowledgement that Yugi is the true King of Games a worthy opponent and now kaiba has a new rival to defeat (who you know is not in the afterlife). Congrats Yugi!

I feel like Kaiba was smiling because Yugi was about win and in Kaiba's eyes he finally became an opponent on equal footing with the pharaoh but he's so focused on Atem is because he was the one who truly beat him and scorned his pride.

I think the most prominent reference to Seth is that the he also represents "rebellion", as shown in Seto's character where he's always a man of action. he won't allow fate or authority to push him around. rebellion also directly oppose authority, which Atem (and Horus) represent
To clear something about what kaiba did at the end of DSOD, kaiba did actually travel back in time but the reason it may not be as clear is because he used aigami cube therefore something related to dimensions manipulation which definitely confused a lot of people so the reason the cube permitted him to time travel is because this time travel follows the modern and new theory of time traveling that has previously been shown in Dragon ball z in android/cell saga and the marvel movie End game (there are way too many others but those were the 2 on my mind) What this theory states that when you travel back in time you are not actually returning to your own actual past instead you are entering a PARALLEL universe also said alternate DIMENTION. Meaning the actions you take are creating a new dimention rather than changing your own world meaning your actions do not affect your world but creates a new one referred to as a branch in the time. That is why dimentions are connected to that it is because travelling in time is considered a form of traveling through dimentions which is further supported or more specifically hinted with what Aigami did to joey were it is as if he sent him to his past

Anyway, just wanted to bring up a few stuff: 1) Seto didn’t use a time machine, he dimension transported to the after life(probably not mentioned in the YGO dub). 2) Its true that Mokuba and Seto where placed in an orphanage. But there was more to the story. After Seto’s parents death, his relatives(probably aunts or uncles) stripped Mokuba and Seto of their inheritance and abandoned them in an orphanage. To say they where homeless after the parents death and placed in an orphanage was probably the story in the dub. Partially true but lighter than the actual story. 3) not sure I understood what you meant about card of Demise not being seen outside of POL. but to clarify Card of Demise was used by Seto in episode 195 against Zigfried.
Gotta thank Eric Stuart for the hilarious sarcasm he added to Kaiba, I can't stand Kaiba but I love the sarcasm. Regarding voicing his role as Kaiba, Eric has said that he feels it's Kaiba's sense of honor that really ground him from not being completely hated. He also said he liked the challenge of walking the fine line between being a rival and not a villain, which I think he did very well. I think you should have gone a little more into his past self as Priest Seto. P.S.: A small bit of information for fans who might not know(since not all fans do), but Eric Stuart is also a singer/songwriter. He has his own band and currently has 9 albums out. Good character profile, glad you finally finished off the Kaiba family 😄
Actually it was meant that kazuki takahashi would have written a plot on the priest seto saga with blue eyes girl and all But short after he fall sick He got hospitalise and the direction board decided to shorten the arc So that kazuki gets time to recover And the rest was history

Duel Links also gives voice lines for support cards that the charater never used. For example, Jaden/Yubel has a line for Neos Fusion, a card made in 2016 or 2017. Kaiba never used Spirit of White or Solid Dragon.
Kaiba's facedown in DoD during his duel with Yugi was Polymerization. It was shown in his hand during the duel but he never played it and it was the only card that could have been left by the time Yugi defeats him. actually you can see it right at the end of this video when your talking about what cards Kaiba started using in DoD.
You forgot about Seto Kaiba's rediculously broken virus cannon, whose effect is send all spell cards in your opponents hand and deck to the graveyard, which he combo'd with his other virus to throw away 80% of his opponents deck.
In the manga, he actually started off as a villain and tried to kill Yugi and his friends after losing a card game. The manga is basically the card game version of Saw. That said, he is one of my favorite Yugioh characters.
Yeah the manga gets dark at times. I can’t remember what it was called but years ago there were a few episodes before the series started (basically when Yugi first gets the puzzle in pieces and before he’s friends with Joey and Tristian) where they play shadow realm games and loser loses his soul

Obviously this analysis came out 3 years ago, however I just realized that Blue Eyes White Dragon is a Light type monster, while Dark Magician is obviously a Dark type monster. However, in the early original yugioh series, most people, myself included were trying to consider if Kaiba was a “Dark” antagonist, while the Pharaoh and Yugi are seen as the “Light” protagonists. It’s such an interesting dynamic to think about
The card was still face down when Kaiba took the hit. I think that grin was Kaiba realizing he lost, but for the first time since he last dueled Atem, he had the sensation of dueling him.

Makes sense. And acknowledging that someone is in fact better than him would be a huge point in character development for Kaiba. His attitude was a bit better in the film than the series, he seemed genuine when he told Yugi "take care". The boy just needed closure and he traveled to the afterlife to get it xD
The pharaoh was legit Kaibas one and only friend who was able to challenge him and literally bring out the best in himself. Without the Pharaoh, Kaiba no doubt has an empty void in his life that money and success cannot fulfill. That's why he went out of his way to make a time machine to go back and find the Pharaoh again, the one person who actually gave him some form of excitement and happiness in life besides Mokuba.
The face down card was polymerization and none of the blue eyes in the right position. We saw his hand and when he cleared his hand before he didn't use it. He sacrifices himself because yugi won the duel. The smile was more of agnologment.

Fun fact: kaiba battles his father complex in his duells. In 2008 the author takahashi talked about kaiba. He actually felt responsible for his fathers suicide and it "haunted him". This also triggered the thinking of games meaning death. His stepfathers dead and the lost of a foe to play "games" against also triggered some insanity.
2:15 There's so many examples of Kaiba's disdain toward Joey in the English dub that you could point to, but for some reason, one of my favorites has always been in the KC Grand Championship arc, when Kaiba specifically tells Mokuba to ensure Wheeler is late for the tournament registration process so that he'll be DQ'd from the whole tourney. That's just so absurdly petty and disrespectful, and I love it.

I theorize that the technology Kaiba uses is based on that, and that he tunneled into the afterlife (rather than into the past, or yet another simulation -- which he already expressed earlier in the movie would not be enough to sate his desire to beat the real Pharaoh.)
Also, if it was a simulation, Mokuba wouldn't be so worried that Seto might not come back.

Kinda surprised people miss those things. They're directly a part of his backstory. The "turning a weapons company into a gaming company" thing even comes up as a plot point during the Doma arc.
Also, he completely defies a lot of the "typical Billionare CEO" behaviors. He pays his employees really well and he's always putting his money into big projects rather than sitting on it, plus he actually does his fair share of the work, personally designing and testing new products, rather than just getting his engineers to do everything.

Kaiba is my favorite character, and I can’t think of a single match he lost where the opponent wasn’t cheating by using a millennium item or a kidnapped mokuba to force his hand.

Dartz- Not really defeated because he saved yugi’s ass multiple times, and Dartz lost the duel. Plus Dartz was on some crazy magic oricalculator shit mayne
Noah - Literally used Mokuba as a human shield to win, but still technically lost the duel after Yugi stepped in.
Take away all the magic and he is the greatest duelist ever with no special abilities besides being obscenely rich and owning the biggest company in the world.
Kaiba is one of my favorite characters, but he is also PTW.
Kaiba was about to be wiped out by the rare hunters more than once but Yugi saved him. In the Dartz duel Yugi saved him again twice. A great character and excellent duelist but not the best.
Kaiba outright cheated by pulling the Blue-Eyes that he stole out of is pocket and top decked it in his first duel with Yami in the manga. And Millennium Puzzle grants no special dueling power in the manga.
He also threatened to fucking kill himself if Yugi wouldn't surrender. He's a petty motherfucker this Kaiba guy.

It wasnt a time machine. He went to the Egyptian afterlife. That's why Atem smiled, he was welcoming a healthy friendly duel. Gotta remember in Atem's time duel monsters was a real battle. Having some random dude show up in the past I'm sure they would all get ready to kill seto but instead Atem smiled because he knew who seto was. How would Atem know him if seto traveled time? Therefore it wasnt the past it was just their version of an afterlife.

I always interpreted it as Kaiba was bluffing and was going to lose. The reason he smiled was something of a realization that he didn't need the Pharaoh because Yugi really was a fantastic duelist who bested both of them, and would be the one Kaiba can challenge and heal/mourn with in their own way.
Then he got the cube and was like "Well, might as well settle the score anyways."
Cause he comes back and at least works with Yugi as there was official art showing them in his space station together, creating Yugi's new game together. With Kaiba even looking happy.

I think the only thing that stopped me from loving Kaiba from the start was his Episode 1 behavior and lack of sympathetic characteristics. Mokuba goes through his Duelist Kingdom experience, he and Kaiba are shown to legitimately care for each other, and the Battle City Finals showing that he's simply frustrated and has an actual deep connection to Blue Eyes all combined to make Kaiba my absolute favorite character in the series, with a Blue Eyes deck becoming my dream deck, not that I've actually played a single bit of Yugioh. When I saw BEUD, I was like "Whoa." When Kaiba became a character that I could love without the "but he's a bad guy" taboo, BEUD immediately became my most hyped card. The summoning soundtrack only helps.

I know that very little thought had been put into how Duel Monsters would work if it was a real game at that point but I never understood why Kaiba didn't get a ton of more powerful cards like Barrel Dragon and Summoned Skull to fill out the deck. While cards like that seemed to be ridiculously rare, he seemed like he would be able to afford them.

Man it is so good seeing this series again and starting of with the king of roasting other dualist Seto Kaiba is good he has some of the best roast in dual links in both his dual monster world as well as the new dark side of dimensions world which I thought that after 5ds we would have gotten zexal cause of the order of each series but this is better
Seto used the Millennium Cube and SCIENCE to travel to the afterlife, not the past. That's why he was the only person in Egypt being erased and why Atem was smiling, since Atem sealed his soul in a puzzle and had his name erased from history after banishing Zorc and all Duel Spirits/Monsters in people and coexisting with people for 3000 years up til Pegasus happened.
I'm kinda disappointed he did not know that despite all the research he did for this video.

From what I've heard, Kaiba's face down card was actually Polymerization, which can be seen in his hand now and again during the Duel, and he never actually used, so he Set it.
It's possible that he could have been grinning as he finally realized Yugi had grown as a Duelist and became worthy of challenging him.

Regarding the Dark Side of Dimensions DNF of kaiba vs Yugi. Yugi won for 2 reasons
1) kaiba life points were going down in the damage calculation, not many cards can be activated if any, during damage calculation and since kaibas life points were 2500 and Dark Magician Atk was 2500 his poimts became 0 and kaiba lost.
2)when Seto is ritual summoning blue eyes chaos MAX dragon u can see Polymerisation in his hand and myslef and others have gone through the duel and the only card he could have set was poly (and kaiba is used to setting poly as he did in the battle city semi finals). So Yugi accurately called Kaiba bluff
Which is probably the reason why kaiba was smiling as it was in acknowledgement that Yugi is the true King of Games a worthy opponent and now kaiba has a new rival to defeat (who you know is not in the afterlife).

To clear something about what kaiba did at the end of DSOD, kaiba did actually travel back in time but the reason it may not be as clear is because he used aigami cube therefore something related to dimensions manipulation which definitely confused a lot of people
so the reason the cube permitted him to time travel is because this time travel follows the modern and new theory of time traveling that has previously been shown in Dragon ball z in android/cell saga and the marvel movie End game (there are way too many others but those were the 2 on my mind)
What this theory states that when you travel back in time you are not actually returning to your own actual past instead you are entering a PARALLEL universe also said alternate DIMENTION. Meaning the actions you take are creating a new dimention rather than changing your own world meaning your actions do not affect your world but creates a new one referred to as a branch in the time. That is why dimentions are connected to that it is because travelling in time is considered a form of traveling through dimentions which is further supported or more specifically hinted with what Aigami did to joey were it is as if he sent him to his past

Hey man, love you’re content, always entertaining to me. It’d be cool if you can make a video over the best main YGO rival. Anyway, just wanted to bring up a few stuff:
1) Seto didn’t use a time machine, he dimension transported to the after life(probably not mentioned in the YGO dub).
2) Its true that Mokuba and Seto where placed in an orphanage. But there was more to the story. After Seto’s parents death, his relatives(probably aunts or uncles) stripped Mokuba and Seto of their inheritance and abandoned them in an orphanage. To say they where homeless after the parents death and placed in an orphanage was probably the story in the dub. Partially true but lighter than the actual story.
3) not sure I understood what you meant about card of Demise not being seen outside of POL. but to clarify Card of Demise was used by Seto in episode 195 against Zigfried.

Gotta thank Eric Stuart for the hilarious sarcasm he added to Kaiba, I can't stand Kaiba but I love the sarcasm. Regarding voicing his role as Kaiba, Eric has said that he feels it's Kaiba's sense of honor that really ground him from not being completely hated. He also said he liked the challenge of walking the fine line between being a rival and not a villain, which I think he did very well. I think you should have gone a little more into his past self as Priest Seto. Actually it was meant that kazuki takahashi would have written a plot on the priest seto saga with blue eyes girl and all
But short after he fall sick
He got hospitalise and the direction board decided to shorten the arc
So that kazuki gets time to recover
And the rest was history

Joey is the only person in the series with the bragging rights of saying he used Kaiba’s own blue eyes against him
Atem did that in the manga.
You know that he uses blue eyes solid dragon and dragon spirit of white according to duel links right
Duel Links also gives voice lines for support cards that the charater never used.
For example, Jaden/Yubel has a line for Neos Fusion, a card made in 2016 or 2017.
Kaiba never used Spirit of White or Solid Dragon.
Kaiba's facedown in DoD during his duel with Yugi was Polymerization. It was shown in his hand during the duel but he never played it and it was the only card that could have been left by the time Yugi defeats him. actually you can see it right at the end of this video when your talking about what cards Kaiba started using in DoD.
You forgot about Seto Kaiba's rediculously broken virus cannon, whose effect is send all spell cards in your opponents hand and deck to the graveyard, which he combo'd with his other virus to throw away 80% of his opponents deck.

In the manga, he actually started off as a villain and tried to kill Yugi and his friends after losing a card game. The manga is basically the card game version of Saw. That said, he is one of my favorite Yugioh characters.
Yeah the manga gets dark at times. I can’t remember what it was called but years ago there were a few episodes before the series started (basically when Yugi first gets the puzzle in pieces and before he’s friends with Joey and Tristian) where they play shadow realm games and loser loses his soul

Obviously this analysis came out 3 years ago, however I just realized that Blue Eyes White Dragon is a Light type monster, while Dark Magician is obviously a Dark type monster. However, in the early original yugioh series, most people, myself included were trying to consider if Kaiba was a “Dark” antagonist, while the Pharaoh and Yugi are seen as the “Light” protagonists. It’s such an interesting dynamic to think about

The card was still face down when Kaiba took the hit. I think that grin was Kaiba realizing he lost, but for the first time since he last dueled Atem, he had the sensation of dueling him.

Atem and Yugi aren't the same character bro. He's admitting that Yugi is a worthy opponent of respect. But Kaiba needs a rematch with the Pharaoh to move on with his life. That's not contradictory at all.

Makes sense. And acknowledging that someone is in fact better than him would be a huge point in character development for Kaiba. His attitude was a bit better in the film than the series, he seemed genuine when he told Yugi "take care". The boy just needed closure and he traveled to the afterlife to get it xD

The pharaoh was legit Kaibas one and only friend who was able to challenge him and literally bring out the best in himself. Without the Pharaoh, Kaiba no doubt has an empty void in his life that money and success cannot fulfill. That's why he went out of his way to make a time machine to go back and find the Pharaoh again, the one person who actually gave him some form of excitement and happiness in life besides Mokuba.
The face down card was polymerization and none of the blue eyes in the right position. We saw his hand and when he cleared his hand before he didn't use it. He sacrifices himself because yugi won the duel. The smile was more of agnologment.
