RIP James Casey. Played with all his heart and soul. You can see Billy giving him a big nod and smile during that jam at the 7:08 mark and Santana smiling to him around the 8:00 minute mark. Always a joy to hear James play.

Billy sure can play and with that Jerry esque tone he shined but I definitely dug that stretch from Carlos that kind of had a bit of chuck berry syncopation.

He is the best musician I know, hands down. The way he writes songs. Sings, plays guitar with Carlos Santana and does not lack behind an iota. He could play all of them into the ground, if he wanted to. And he is half the age, if that... Oh and he just looks awesome in this outfit!!!

It took 8 minutes for the camera person to find Billy. I kept thinking “there’s some other guitar part here that is clearly not Santana. Where is it?” Awesome stuff though. The Dead’s catalog is timeless and also ready for a new generation.

Not sure about Billy Strings, but the Dead and Santana played together plenty - seen them in 87 together with Carlos sitting in on "Good Morning Little School Girl" and "In the Midnight Hour". Great stuff right here. Id take this over Dead and Co any day

Billy K’s smile when Strings lights it up is everything.
Jerry got much of his melodic sensibility from playing bluegrass. Billy has incredible melodic sensibility from bluegrass playing and it transfers to electric so nicely. Hope to see him do more of this in the future.
Also, i know this is blasphemy.....but Carlos Santana is not that good unless he's in his own element. Sorry not sorry.

Don't know any of these guys except two Billys, and Carlos, but here's my take, not that anyone should give a shit about it.
Overall, kickass jam. Really liked it. Carlos, bless his heart, and I love him, his "comfort zone", is rather small, no disrespect intended. Mr Strings, on the other hand, seems to have no limit to his comfort zone. He can make a flattop sound spacier than that Les Paul. A pedal master. I'm only 66, hope I can play 5% as good as him when I grow up.
And Billy K still rocks.
A proper Iko Iko is literal magic. Talk about a musical conversation, the groove they hit directly following the opening lyrics + sax solo is something to behold. Happy Birthday Billy! So cool to see you spend it thriving in the pocket like the legend you are!💗🕉✨
