Might be expensive yes but its quality stuff, Ive been using Hue since the first versions in 2012 when it was only available through Apple, infact the bulbs I bought back then are still in regular use today and have never give any issues and still perfect. My system extends to the outside too and the hue Syncbox is amazing when linked to a good TV. Im part of the beta program and there are some great new ideas coming along, we are constantly testing and no I dont work for Hue or Signify, just a happy user
I’ve been using mainly hue for my dimmable smart lighting in my home installation for about 5yrs. I agree that it’s mostly excellent quality and reliable. A few of the fancier bulbs aren’t very tough, sadly I’ve broken the glass on a couple of the filament style bulbs! But a little known fact is that the Hue Hub will pair with some other brand Zigbee bulbs and they work just as well and for a far better price. I have mixed feelings. I’m always prepared to pay for quality but Hue isn’t twice or three times better than alternatives IMO
Recently redid our entire small one bedroom holiday cottage with hue. The tricky bit was finding switches that were suitable, we ended up with GIRA kinetic switches which have been great. Downside is the mess of wiring as the living room / kitchen was originally designed with six individual circuits now all WAGO'd together where the dimmer used to be!
My friend has a Phillips hue TV, he had the backlight on and it seems to lower the contrast having it on? We switched it off and the blacks looked much better and more depth to the colours. Might just have been the way it was set up.

The cheaper Hyperion system with cheaper WS2812b LEDs can be used to create the same Ambilight effect (for all the cheapskates like me who dislike Hue prices) And also I’ve found some cheaper brand zigbee bulbs will pair with the Hue Hub and they work exactly the same for far less money Sorry Phillips Hue - you’re good but not affordable to many people
@@efixx nice! I found something similar on ebay called a cutler hammer safety/disconnect switch. Will probably get one of those and hook them up to a hue switch module 😎
@@wouter11234 yes we are vaguely familiar with the Cutler Hamer brand - I think they are part of Eaton now - alongside MEM who used to make the Glasgow - happy hunting!

I’m afraid Phillips have already lost my custom, I have bought three Phillips Hue smart lamps. One no longer connects to the app, one works ok and the third, has a high pitching squeal that it has had from new and when you first turn it on its acts like something possessed flashing and the light levels going up and down before it eventually settles down.
Ok if if wiring a nightclub or the stage at a rock concert . Stupid and pointless for domestic , unless you’re running a brothall ,😂 it’s just more overpriced luxury junk. But it is cleaver. ? Then again no it isn’t they have been using colour changing lamps since the 50s , so it’s not new we are just going backwards. At this rate give it a few years and plastic CUs will be the in thing . Been using Philips Hue in my own home for over 5years and add lights as as when the wife changes her mind 😩. Keep an eye out for the special offers they do once or twice a year. By far the best form of use is when you are on holiday or away for a few days, program them to come on and off or sunset/sunrise for your external lights.

Hi, did you experiment with power injection for hue gradient strips?

Did you contact the support when you had them problems? I had 2 faulty bulbs and messaged there support team and they sorted me out!

I agree with first comment but it is not a closed system, you can happily use Hue Bulbs with most Zigbee hubs.
