Overview - Special thanks to Jesse for inviting me out to fish with him, had a blast slaying perch!
Had a very interesting start to our day. Believe it or not, we weren't supposed to catch even a single perch, being bass guys, we got to the reservoir planning on chasing some chunk largemouth the whole time.
Jesse arrived a few minutes before I got there at about 7 am. He is fortunate enough to have access to free boat rentals since his family is good friends with the owner of the boat rental shop. The week before, Jesse scoped the place out and saw a sign that said, "boat rentals available friday-monday." No problem, since we met up yesterday, which was a monday.
But... upon arrival, the sign was updated to say, "boat rentals available on weekends." Well, there goes our original plan to crush bass all day. Fortunately, Jesse had plan B ready and we traveled south to fish the reservoir dams. We started at the southernmost dam, but didn't have a whole lot of success.
We fished it for a couple hours until about 10 am, and all we had to show for it for a couple dink largemouth and several missed fish/strikes. We then made a move and walked up towards the bigger dam, and thats when the fishing went berserk!
The very first cast, Jesse hooks up with a super fat yellow perch, the biggest I'd ever seen! Within 20 minutes, we had a caught over a dozen perch and a bonus brown trout, all on one of my favorite fall bass lures, the lipless crankbait. The fish were keyed in on little 3"-4" shad, proven when one of the perch regurgitated a halfway digested gizzard shad.
For the next few hours, we caught more perch than I could count, some of them weighing in close to 1.5 pounds. The action slowed down after about 90 minutes of fishing, possibly because the school of shad the fish were feeding on moved somewhere else, but had another great experience on the water, and I'll be looking forward to chasing some more chunky perch this winter when the bass fishing slows down xD

2:54 I have to say you played that off pretty smooth
+John Mitchell lol! mike is always going for the pound when people aren't looking. he did that in a bunch of our videos too haha
Lol yeah
+John Mitchell hahahhahah :D
Mitchell Outdoors ikr
I love how you fish with subs it really builds bonds and possibly life long friendships
+jim baldly that's one of the great things about having this channel, it gives me a chance to meet all kinds of anglers and learn so many different things about fishing :D
It is indeed a great thing good job ! keep up the Good content and I'll be a loyal fan for many years to come!
+1Rod1ReelFishing Hey my friend, I am a recent subscriber. I live in Harford county Maryland. Do you ever hit the Susquehanna river?
+1Rod1ReelFishing jesse is my step son. I live near Boca grande. I saw the grouper you caught, I am originally from that area
i get really tiny perch and they dont even fight once there hooked lol! its like they got off that looks like fun!
Man! That place looks awesome for some Multi-Species fishing. Must hit if I am ever around.
Don't do it lol the police will come 80% of the time
+Jimmy Clark Wait...you mean to tell me that the location is actually private? Like "No Trespassing?"
+Extreme Philly Fishing yes, the police officer told us you can't fish at this dam. However, you can fish further down at the smaller dam
I see. That's a shame, man. Ugh. Tight lines, Jimmy!
+Extreme Philly Fishing where is this
I feel bad for that brown trout. He probably didn't make that drop. I am a trout fisherman and they are more fragile than people think.
That's exactly what I was thinking. They're sturdier than rainbows but still you have to be careful handling any trout.
+Cameron Brock I fish all year for trout, and much like you said, Rainbow Trout are very touchy. I regretfully hooked a nice 22 inch Rainbow and fought it too hard. It was not able to be revived and soon died. I felt terrible because I practice good C&R. (Except for a few here and there). Brown Trout are extremely strong but will fight with all their* worth. The can tire very quickly as well and dropping one from a height like that is a close death sentence. Cheers and happy fishing.
+William H yessir. I fish all year for trout too and know exactly what you're talking about. My brothers been a local guide here for a few years for rainbow and brown.
you are right
+William H I fly fish at the Guadalupe in Texas for brown trout and raimbows
Sounded like anders blume....'HIKO ARE YOU KEEDING ME?" ' DUDE THATS A GIANT YELLOW PERCH ARE YOU KEEDING ME?"
HOLY MOLY!
Alex Brooker
The style is unreal work boots sweatpants zip up hoodie and the backwards hat with the earing HE is a straight BEAST
xD
yeah 1Rod1ReelFishing you know it is too strong you cant handle it michael
1 rod your videos are really good and the gogan squad is awsome
Just want you too know how much I love your videos! They have inspired me too take up my love of fishing once again!
+Uncle George thanks for watching bro, I appreciate the support, glad I could inspire u to fish again, slay some hawgs this year!
Great videos man! Not only can i enjoy fishing, but I can also enjoy your videos when I'm not out on the water. Cheers!
+XIVProdigyz glad u enjoy em, thanks for watching!
Jesus that trout was giant for Maryland
As a trout fisherman I found this hard to watch. Its obvious that at 2:48 he dropped the fish on the concrete and then they decide to just flop it back into the water. Rather just keep it cause that trout definitely died.
well it died either way so what difference would it make?
Walker Bait the death wasn't put to good use so it died without it needing too
Walker Bait so your're saying that if us as humans were to go round and just kill fish for fun and leave them in the river that would be okay?? Wow that's a real sustainable way of thinking hey? Walker Bait if you can't see what's wrong with that picture then there's something wrong with you mate.
Just look at it like this. He probably fed a big blue cat with trout
Adam Richardson i agree. That dead fish can feed something else. It’s the circle of life.
Mike I love how excited you get it's awesome keep up the good videos!
+Jake Seymour thanks for watching bro, I appreciate the support!
These guys are excited about catching fish, I love it
It's amazing how those yellow perch look like peacock bass .
+bass crusher yeah beautiful fish! too bad they don't fight like peacock bass :P
true that peacoks do fight a lot
Lol wouldn't be a 1rod1reel fishing vid without an awkward fist bump!
the dives were superb
You should definitely do more perch/eye fishing videos. really liked this video!
try going back to that spot with spoons and spinners :D you could also try nightcrawlers
Hows the transition from Saltwater to Freshwater, I couldn't imagine going from catching fish that can eat most of the things you have up north hahahaha
+Landshark Outdoors lmao, not gonna lie those saltwater fish fight much harder, but I enjoy catching any fish especially on artificial lures, so the transition wasn't difficult for me :D
You are awesome you are the reason me and my friend are obsessed with fishing now.
+TJT504 Thanks for the support! Glad you guys are enjoying fishing too!
That's really awesome!
Dude ur one of THEEE best fisherman on youtube i love ur style in baits, rods, and reels!i watched every video atleast twice!
+Gaming Tim haha thanks for the compliments bro!
My gawddd u responded to my comment!😨
Yellow perch have really nice color
+Jesse Paine yeah, very pretty fish to catch!
Lmao it's a giant 3 pound perch. Salt water people be like that's what our bait weighs
+WSOR 4025 how
Codys dirt biking & fishing vlogs they aren't marveling at the weight itself. they are amazed that a little pan fish could get to three pounds. think of it like this: catching a 10 pound salt water fish would probably be no big deal (I wouldn't know however) but catching a 10 pound bass is a huge accomplishment. it's all relative.
Aiden Aguirre true true. I do both fresh and salt but no pint in over reacting bout it. Hey man check out my Instagram @cody_265 make sure to check out my CZcams channel too hope you enjoy if you watch
You are my favorite youtube ever THX for making these videos keep it up!
love your videos man keep up the good work and thank you for all the effort you put into ur videos
+Haissam Elawar thanks for the comment bro, I appreciate the support!
if it was me, that trout and like 10 of those perch would've been home for dinner
+Jeremiah Giles yeah, catch and release is fine for trophy largemouth, but yellow perch were born to swim in lake crisco.
river rat 😂 good point. Have you seen those European perch? Those things are HUGE compared to these little yellow perch we've got
+Jeremiah Giles you should come down to the netherlands and fish for them (percia fluvatis), 4 pounders are average here, my personal best is a 53cm and 3,2 kilo( 21 inch and a bit and 6,5 pounds US) but on a day you will catch multiple 5 pounders
Alex Boom a five pound perch is unheard of here! In fact smaller yellow perch are baitfish here. That's amazing!
+Jeremiah Giles if you find my facebook page (same name same profile picture) you can see them there in my public foto folder
why can't I ever find perch like those all I ever catch are like 6 inches
same
In Minnesota every perch is as big as the ones they're catching
Dusterslayer24 45 care to share a spot. or few. lol. never seen any jumbo perches in mn.
I've been hammering the jumbo perch in Indiana this fall with my brother
these perch are only like 20cm long! there's nothing jumbo about them!?
Awesome video ! Cant wait to catch some of these through the ice!!
Great fishing man. Amazing trout for around here! Love the vids
+Martayn Vandewall thanks for watching bro, i appreciate the support!
R.i.p. to that brown lol
What dam is this? What part of Maryland?
Cword82 it’s loch raven your not aloud to fish there it’s jail time if caught
My buddy got 1500 dollar fine and kept going there then they gave him 30 days work release.
That looked like a lot of fun
That's insane dude!!!
That is good eating Yall never keep any and fry them up?
yeah yellow perch r great eating, I actually don't like eating fish though so I just catch and release
+1Rod1ReelFishing well you're good at that. Keep it up
+1Rod1ReelFishing but any perch is the best when fried. Better than any fish I've had ever. And I eat lot of fish
+PaxAm Records try walley fried, its good
Or any kind of panfish. Bluegill and Crappie are excellent too.
You're videos are great man but you gotta take better care of those fish, like you can't be keeping them out of the water for so long and just throwing them 10-20 feet down. The goal of catch and release is to take a picture do whatever you want but get the fish back in there ASAP. You don't have to listen but that's how most fishermen feel and I know I follow this rule when i'm fishing, watch Uncut Angling and you can see that they talk about quick release all the time.
Walter Sobchak ok, fish are sensitive and living and you have to respect that
Love the video, it was fun watching you two catching the perch. Those were like Lake Erie Perch there.
+Ecomomical Fisherman thanks for watching, I need to go get some of those erie smallies and walleye sometime!
What baitcasting combo would you recommend for me since I'm just starting to use baitcasters, just wanting your recommendations
Am I the only one who wants to ride down that dam thing
That would be awesome
+Chase Kristan Lol jesse said the exact same thing!
You're fishing from an illegal spot at that damn
dang some nice fish keep up the good work love your vids
great video. love it. keep it up mate.
Waaaayyy too much commentary.
Commentary is what these videos are all about, and why most people love them.
No, and settle.
it hurts me to see these guys letting these perch go. they are such good eating.
Don't let it hurt you. When people let them go, there are more for those of us who do eat them.
i have one in an aquarium that i caught... amazing to watch
Wow your so lucky to have so many places to fish around your area
Hey man love all ur vids keep them up!!!
and yeah Netflix and Chill (saw it on Andrew's vid :)
+Keegan Priebe hahaha ^^ :D
Hey u really need to learn to handle them trout more carful they are a very sensitive fish and can't be Tossed around like that plz watch out next time they need to be preserved for future generations
Terrible handling of a great wild brown trout, that thing should have been released properly not dropped from like 15 feet to its death...
Walter Sobchak it's not that he's soft or a faggot or anything like that I'm an avid outdoorsman and he's saying respect mother nature's gifts don't take it for granted. instead of being a little hard headed fuck open your mind up a little bit fucking douche
Walter Sobchak trout are fragile fish, and tire out quickly, if you're going fishing at least know some facts about catch before you start being an asshat to other people
Great job matching the hatch
love your vids. keep it up
Dropping fish like that is horrible.
No, it isn't horrible. It doesn't hurt them at all. It sounds like none of you have ever done much fishing at all. That's not at all a high drop for a fish.
I fish more than you do and why don't you take a whiff at what you're trying to shovel out.
suzy mcalister You don't know if you fish more than him
Sure I do.
Fine video ! Please keep it up and Thanks for Sharing !!
Holy crap! A Yellow Perch Paradise! I would have a field day there hahaha
Some nice perch man

+Chris Dunn thanks for watching bro!
really like your videos bro! keep slaying man
+Michael Hall thanks bro, and will do! xD
what state do you live in? i come to upstate New York every summer to fish. that would be dope if you had a fishing tournament near by
i dont keep fish often but we have an over population on perch near where i fish and sometimes we keep the bigger ones like the ones your catching in this video and there great tasting lots of flavor and all
You gotta throw some blue fox spinners in there and slam those trout, looks like an awesome spot.
