  • In this video I build the subfloor for my van with some help from my dad! I am extremely grateful for his help and expertise with woodworking because I couldn’t have done this without him. We first built the framing out of one piece of wood, insulated it, and then topped it with plywood. If you have any questions for my dad or I on anything that we did here, leave them in the comments!

      Didn't say he didn't. However, I would use 2 layers of wood. Glued with construction glue. The final layer/finish layer, will NOT be any fake wood strips, etc., I will custom make the floor. Oh yeah, I stopped going to Home Depot after about the 3d trip there, and have shopped at Lowes since - and am pleased with Lowes.

    Hi Laura - when building with wood keep in mind it absorbs odors as well as moisture. You might consider sealing all wood with a water-based poly, like 2 to 3 coats if you have the time. All sides of the wood, even if it's not going to be exposed. A year from now it will prevent the dreaded, "hey, what's that smell?" and protect from high humidity and spills...

      We were actually just talking about sealing the wood. Thanks for the tips!

    Dad is a resourceful guy. Soak up all you can from his years of experience. Just subbed. We're about to start a build on a Promaster. Looking forward to watching your journey 👍

    I live in Florida and in my research your floor will always be colder than the rest of the van so I installed my plywood directly to the floor. Me being 6’3” my head really appreciated that. Plus I was really attentive to how I insulated and did the wood ceiling giving be great insulation while giving the me the most head room possible.

    I just purchased a 2020 Nissan NV 2500 for my part time ac business. I’ve already retired once already but I still have people calling me. I’ve already built out a Sprinter to a camper van and use it regularly to travel. So I needed another for some work. This NV didn’t come with any bins so now I’m already planning a wood upper cab project for parts but I’m planning to do it as if it’s a camper van. That’s what is so fun about having a van. So many possibilities. Thanks for the channel. I’ll keep watching.

      I love it! There really is so much space above the cab in this van, I plan on building some shelving up there as well. I have seen some people put their bed up there!

    Hi Laura, What a great project you have... I too would like to convert a Nissan NV2500 into a camping van and your transformation work is inspiring. I can't wait to see what happens next. Good luck !

    To each is own. My high top van supposedly has 7 foot headroom, inside. So I don't worry about headspace. But definitely will not do the floor as you did.

    just a bought a nv2500 2012 with 106k miles on it for $3400 its the cargo high top version with the v6 but i still think i got an excellent deal. I am going to convert it but what I want to do is create a Van conversion that can be easily removed or installed. For instance, think of the back of this van like a Drawer and the drawer will slide in and out freely and be able to be removed completely in i want to use the van for something else.

      Congrats on your van! Making it removable is a great idea. That’s why I didn’t seal the flooring to the ground. You may need to access the bolts from the inside floor to remove the spare tire so removable is necessary!

      @@laurakcollins thank you! theres a video on youtube called: My Old - Tricked out van with slide out tool storage by Dettmore101 that basically has the idea solidified.

    Did you not use adhesive to bond the frame to the floor of the van, other than the bracket?

    • @laurakcollins
      @laurakcollins  Před 15 dny +1

      Nope! We wanted it removable. It fits like a puzzle piece. The access to the spare tire is under it and there are a few other reasons we decided to do it this way!
