this video was probably high budget but it 100% wasnt cheep. you are fotgetting all the cast behind the chamera, all the ligthing and thats not cheep lighting. Also just the location, it cant be that cheep too rent that wearhouse and the sets also.
so yeah, it migth be lower budget compaired too like expenssive videos but its not low budget, its not Losing My Edge by LCD Soundsystem or Subterranean Homesick Blues.
And i dont think record lables do music videos, usally commisioned too a video production, the lable just produce them some of the time.
Music video director/producer chiming in here. This video definitely cost at least $40k. Don't know if that's cheap to you or not.

I saw this band open for Pheonix and Cut Copy at the greek theater in Berkeley and they literally stole the show. When they started, the crowd was mostly sitting and not paying too much attention, but by the end of their set, everyone was on their feet cheering and applauding. It was the first time I'd seen a crowd turn around like that and it set a very high bar for the next two acts.
They are great live!

I remember listening to this song during the first lockdown due to Covid here in Germany. My place of work was closed, university as well. I could do nothing pretty much, so I did nothing and started thinking about my life... Finally. I realized what made me depressed all these years. University pushing me to the limit mentally (not so much intelectually), a relationship that was over years ago, but I kept pushing myself to keep, so I wasn't alone and much more.
I started changing things in my life and I felt just as high as described in the song (sans drugs), and felt at peace with myself for some time.
This is my new favorite song. I heard it on Alt 98.7 a couple weeks ago and I can't stop listening to it. Can't wait to come back and remember I was here before 5k views

I discovered the song in the Summer of 2017 while driving my convertible Mustang on a beautiful Saturday afternoon listening to Sirus radio. The moment the song come on I cranked it up full blast. High stayed number one for three weeks and in heavy rotation on Sirius for close to 20 weeks from April to September of that year. I have been a fan of the band since then.

Everyone seems to think this song is about drugs, but it strikes me much more as being about the band trying to adjust to their success. It's a sequel to "Expectations", and describes the next phase in their development where they've figured out how to continue evolving and not worry about keeping everybody happy. That's why the video is shot so meta, with cameramen and video screens within the frame. All of a sudden they're expected to compete with the image people see on their screens in every aspect of their lives. Everything they do is under a microscope. The "peace" he sings about isn't a drug high, it's peace of mind. He's trying to live in the moment and enjoy his life, unwilling to fall apart like so many others did before once their band broke through. The devil is the devil that's inside all of us, waiting to eat us alive once we forget who we are. On this track he's celebrating having beaten that devil, for now at least. The Oakland story is about a drug high, sure, but it's just told as an example of his earlier carefree existence when he was free to go out on the road, no idea of what was in store. The choruses are about euphoria, but drugs aren't the only thing that gives euphoria.
