For sure Obama was disappointing, but i can’t even begin to imagine how much worse the Great Recession would have been if McCain won in 2008, or Romney in 2012. The recession would have almost certainly shifted into a depression with their economic policy, which was a continuation of George W. Bush’s standard conservative policy of tax cuts for the rich and deregulation. GOP haven’t shifted their economic philosophy one single bit in fifty years. The Reagan Revolution lifted up the wealthy owner class and completely destroyed the middle class.
The more accurate thing to say with Obama is that he didn't grow up with African-American roots. His father was *from* Africa, and his mother white. His ancestry is not one that stemmed from slavery and 100s of years of system oppression. He didn't share many of the hurdles of systemic oppression that many in the black community faced or face today.
