I have the 72 set sakura koi and never dealt with dullness and streakiness. I think to avoid the streaks you supposed to spray the paints with water and leave them for a few minutes. I believe without spraying and going straight to the paint It will create streaks
Thank you for the side-by-side comparison. I have both. I've been using my Sakura Koi recently, but your video has inspired me to get the Kuretaki set out.
Hi, Nancy! Thanks for checking out my channel. I'm glad the video was helpful to you. I hope you'll find my other videos interesting as well. Take care, and I hope you and your loved ones stay healthy during this time.
What an informative video! Thank you for making a video about this as I was confused on which watercolor set to buy. Really helpful and done well !!
Thank you, Aliza. I'm so glad you found the video helpful. I find comparison videos tricky and difficult to make because I have to study each product very carefully and use them diligently so I can give an informed review. Thanks for your encouragement. It makes all the hard work worth it!
I have the sakura koi 24 set and while I do agree that they're streaky I found that mixing my colours in a pallet and spraying the pans with water before use helps with creating even washes hopefully this helps
Thanks Goopumz. That's a great idea. I haven't done that before, I mean, spraying my pans with water. I do load lots of water on my brush when I work. I'd love to try what you suggested.
Thanks for this excellen and thorough review. I would go with Kuretake Gansai hands down!!
I'm so glad you watched, TravelDiva6. Thanks for dropping in. I hope you find other videos helpful too.
I fall in love with so many Japanese supplies. They do know how to build with quality. Kuretake really is awesome. There's another watercolor set I'll be reviewing soon. I recently bought the Kissoh which is another gansai tambi paint. I can't wait to review it soon!
Thanks for this informative vid! You had helped me decide on buying a new palette. Sugar is added as it makes paint more vibrant and luminous. They use it a lot for neon highlighters and paints.
Oh wow! That's new info for me. Thanks. And I'm glad this video was helpful. Come by again and I hope you enjoy the other vids in this channel.
Thank you for this vlog. It is very informative.
Thanks Rae. I'm so glad you watched! :)
Thank you for comparison . I use Kuretake and I’m delighted
I'm so happy you liked and found this video helpful, Iza. I have other videos where I used Kuretake. You may want to check them out ... like this one ... czcams.com/video/3_cT1uPFhnU/video.html or this ... czcams.com/video/b1tiBqvCGQ8/video.html
Very imformative thank you so much cause I would of never thought of that when buying sets
Thanks for this! I got really put off by watercolor for a while because I had Cra-Z-Art paint then got a Sakura Koi palette and it just wasn't going the way I wanted it to. Then I got some better paints and realized that watercolor isn't supposed to work like the Sakura Koi set was for me. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who has issues with those paints.
Thanks for watching Baylee! I'm so happy you dropped in here. So glad too that you found the medium that brought back the joy of watercolor for you. In my latest project, I used Sakura Koi, only because I felt bad about wasting such an expensive purchase. But I immediately regretted the decision the moment I laid down my first stroke. I ruined a very difficult pen and ink drawing! Aaaah... I promised myself I won't make that mistake again. So yeah.... certain brands do that for you. So once you've fallen in love with one brand, never let go :D
The Gansai blues are so pretty! 😍 Great comparison, thank you!
I've fallen so much in love with gansai paints! Japanese art supplies and stationery are one of the best in the world! Thanks for watching Steffi!
@@GingerUmali I don't think I've ever tried any ...? Hm, not sure. But I think I want to in the future. :)
@@oilonpaper I'm not sure where you live, but here in Canada, it wasn't until recently that Kuretake became widely available, mostly through Amazon. And those are imported from Japan. But to me, the shipping wait was so worth it. I fell in love with watercolor as a medium only after I tried Kuretake. And I've tried all sorts of media for decades.
@@GingerUmali Hm, sounds pretty convincing. :) I mean that it's worth a try! I live in Europe. In art stores, you mostly find European brands. Amazon is a different story, of course... I will check that out! :)
Just checked: the price on Amazon is pretty decent, actually. Do you use them for professional work? Are they lightfast?
Would kerutake be suitable for a beginner who likes painting landscapes and trees etc?
Yes, Dana. Kuretake is great for landscapes too. I've used it for urban sketches, for garden landscapes with trees and flowers, and for other graphic illustrations and Kuretake performs really well. Just keep in mind though that it's more opaque compared to North American watercolour brands.
@@GingerUmali thanks!
Do you recommend Kuretake for beginners? I am searching around for best affordable watercolors. Do you think it is good for person who was just want to try watercolors?
Hi Eniel, thanks for visiting my channel. So glad to have you here. Even if you're a beginner, you'll fall in love with watercolors if you try out Kuretake. The product is so smooth, it makes painting a delight. When I first started with watercolours, I tried many other brands that just made me so frustrated that I quit and went into acrylics instead. If I encountered Kuretake earlier, I believe I wouldn't have gone the roundabout journey I took to get here. My video is not sponsored so my opinion is unbiased and based solely on my experience with it. But I do have affiliate links in the description box that can help you buy from Amazon at no added cost to you. It's just there to help support this channel and to provide quick access to anyone who decides to buy. Thanks again for watching!
I want to buy a new watercolour set, particularly the Kuretake one but the size makes it inconvenient to travel with 🤧. Also, do you think it's worth getting the 48 set?
Thanks for the product comparison, it's informative! It's really convinced me to get the Kuretake.
Hi Laurel. Thanks for watching my video and welcome to the channel. I hope you stay and visit the other videos too. I agree that the Kuretake is a bit bulky for travel but the colour saturation and performance is well worth it for me that the bulkiness no longer mattered. If the 48 color set was only available when I first encountered Kuretake, I would have bought that instead of the 36. Yes, it's worth it. My pan set is not yet fully consumed but I myself am planning to buy the 48s. If you do consider getting it, I've provided a quick link in my description box that leads directly to Amazon. I hope that helps. Take care and stay safe!
what are you swatching on? it doesnt look like regular watercolor paper :0
Hi fesh go gulululu ... so glad you dropped in. I used the Strathmore 400 series 300 GSM/ 140 lb. mixed media paper that's supposed to work with both wet and dry media. I've used this before in many watercolor projects and performed pretty well.
Ginger Umali - Art That Plays & Prays oh ok that’s so funny the sun rays were projected on the paper which created the illusion of the paper looking kinda shiny or damp/wet so i thought it was an aquaboard lol ^^
@@Deedeedoodad sorry, I got you confused. I was working beside a huge window and I guess the blinds cast shiny light somehow. Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep that in mind the next time I create. Happy Easter! And thanks for coming into my channel. I hope you find other videos helpful too.
