Your flux cored rods work great. I was able to braze two razer blades together using your 18%
You did not need to brush the flux all around the fitting once the tube was seated in the socket. Apply flux to the tube (and the inside of the female end) and insert. Apply flux where you want the SilFos to flow.
The over-application of flux is what resulted in this being a very messy/ugly braze.
flux also helps protect the parts from oxidation,so that is the reason he applied it all over where the heat was gonna be

Sloppy. Never apply flame directly to the flux, it needs heat up, boil, solidify and turn back to a clear looking liquid then you can continue heating till it melts the silver solder. you should not have globs all over when your completed.
What about bronze brazing flux?

@@mtrltoolman Most Bronze rods now come with flux coated. I was taught about 1962 to heat the silver solder flux with a NEUTRAL flame until the flux dries and then re-liquifies as a good time to start getting your thoughts off the girlfriend and on to the most important job of your life. Treat all joints thusly and you won't ever have them fail. I spent 40 plus years brazing and silver soldering and never heard of one of my joints failing.
I checked Sil-Fos which says you don't have to use flux

If it dries out you can add water. It will lay a long time. Personally in this application the blue pre fluxed rods from johnstone would be easier.

From where did the alloy come
I've been soldering for 15yrs in a laboratory setting where our copper sees huge swings in temperature and pressure and holds up to this day. This is a very sloppy plumbing job, the extra flux can cause the joint to fail and develop pinhole leaks after some period of time. All that extra flux gobbed on is unnecessary. There should also not be big gobs of solder around the pipe that you started burning to black. Excessive and ugly mess. You should just see a thin ring of solder at the joint because that solder should actually wrap around the copper inside the brass female portion to create its seal.

flux also drives out the impurities to the surface,,btw is it possible to melt off a silfoss joint with propane air torch? a buddy of mine said he heated the tubing till it was cherry hot and could not melt the stuff ,some refrigeration guy laughed and told him he would never be able to with propane and needed to use acyt,,i think this is puzzling,,im not sure what that stuff was he could not melt off,because all you need is 600-800 deg C and prop is 2000 deg C

Old Comment but propane and maps won't burn hot enough unless you add oxygen. Acetylene burns hotter on its own and is used to braze. Propane/maps- soldering, Acetylene- brazing
@@namegoeshere69 correct but oxy/prop-mapp can braze too , i was easily able to melt off the silfoss braze on the refrigeration copper tube with a mini torch i made that my friend was not able to with his air/prop torch ,,btw i got a vid of the mini torch i made on my ch
Very sloppy. Flux clogs Txv's and power Pistons. Also In correct flame. 7 on the acetylene 20 on the oxygen "psi"
Kegan, this video is for use across a wide range of applications. The flux needed in each use varies. If you are having issues with clogging components within the system you are brazing, then limiting flux and alloy quantity indeed could be an option. The flame used in this video is a reducing flame. We recommend setting your line pressure at the tank body to 5-7psi acetylene and 15-20psi oxygen. This torch is set to that pressure (which you also recommend, so we agree on this point). It is not possible to tell the line pressure from the flame appearance, because the gas ratios are regulated at the torch handle after the tank body. The regulation at the torch handle sets the flame type, not the line pressure at the tank body.
I just go by what the flame looks and sounds like. I don't have a gauge to set it to those settings perfectly.
Also the required acetylene and oxygen pressures depends on the torch tips type and size

I don't know why these how to braze videos always show the person using a wet cloth. Your supposed to use a piece of Emory cloth or sand paper.
Alex, We recommend emory or wire brush to prep the joint. Afterwards, the wet cloth/rag is used to remove the flux.

I don't flux copper to copper but copper to brass will give you problems without flux. Copper to steel also requires flux.
