    I also like the Lab Blues. Glad to hear it’s the same blade. I’m one of those people (for better or worse) that prefer the lab blues simply because they’re made in the USA. I do my best to support American made products when I can.
    My 47’ Aristocrat gives me a great shave no matter which blade I use anyways. So, why not use American? Great video!

    Yes Matt i remember very well
    that white proraso was your
    first love of wet shave as well
    as mine. Although i have more
    than 40 soaps and creams in
    my den, i always come back
    once a week to proraso white.
    The unique scent and the way
    it leaves my skin is fantastic.
    Glad you once again give it a

    Thanks Matt. I have purchased the Accuforge from you and they are fantastic blades. Sharp and smooth. I also have the Med Prep, new name Accuthrive. They are also sharp and have less coating than the Accurforge. The Accuthrive comes in a Blue wrapper now and is the same as the original MedPrep, #geofatboy did a comparison review. I have also had the Comfort Coated and they are very inconsistent. I do not find them to be the same as the Med Prep or the Lab Blue (Accuthrive and the Accuforge).

    The name change from Personna to Accuforge is just a name change. Thanks to Matt for letting us know, otherwise we would look for Persona and be left to wonder. I have recently been using Proraso White, and I get good close shaves with it. My usual being Proraso Red. I started to wonder if the Red formula was aiding some irritation on my neck. Answer not really. The culprit was my Futur razor. All the stubble is gone and so was the outer layer of skin. So an affordable
    change in razor was also made. Enter the Merkur 34C, and a Feather blade. No irritation with either Proraso White or Red. Next up for the 34C an old fashioned Personna Lab Blue, let's see what happens. Lesson learned is that a less aggressive razor can really work out once you crack the code on its angle.

    Hmm Matt I used to use the white Proraso all the time until I got your charcoal soap and do prefer it a(because it lasts longer and b)because I find it better for my skin. I have not ever tried the Personna and the new Accutek I suspect will be too expensive to ship to Australia. My go to is as always a Feather blade in a Feather AD-D2 or the Rockwell slant cannot think of the design number but almost all of the time I use the Father razor. My method is to do a first pass and then follow it with a second in the opposite direction and finish off with a third and "finishing" pas after applying Thayers medicated witch hazel (not available as medicated anymore only plain or rose or whatever) that makes the remaining stubble stand up and be cut down close to my skin.

    I let my shave go for a week and was kind of dreading it so used a SR on my head, which felt really good. I tried the single edge from supply co on my face and it just would not shave. If I crank up the gap I get razor burn so that's not an option. I broke out my konsul and it worked beautifully. Funny how blades and gaps and hair and skin types affect your shave.

    The loss of the name Personna Lab Blue is sad. Imagine if the historic moniker "Gillette" was changed to Accushave or something else. Once a name is established with a product it sort of becomes the thing itself.

      @slimbrady6691 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yea, to me, Personna was one of those iconic names in wet shaving like Gillette, Simpsons, Proraso, Clubman, etc. And I feel like they had the most iconic wrapper of any blade. It feels disrespectful to the heritage of the brand to change the name. It also just doesn't make much sense to me from a business perspective. Personna was an established name. Everyone knew that name. The name AccuTech AccuForge is never going to catch on.

      Hi, 10 months ago I too wet back to wet shaving. I am 81 yrs young and decided wet shaving would be a great hobby to keep me in trouble. Now I have 20 different blade brands from 10 countries, and 8 D/E razors.
      To find the blade or blades that would be best with each razor I will use at least 2 different blades for a shave. And write down your findings. My razors have gaps of .45-.55-.68-.71- .74-and ?.
      After my experiences I have found that my face and skin loves #1- BIC ASTOR from Greece, #2-Tiger Platinum #3-Tiger Stainless both from Czech Republic, #4-Treet New Stainless from Pakistan. Personna Comfort Coated. The BIC ASTOR IS MY GO TO with every razor. I hope this helps and welcome to the club.

The Personna blades in the blue wrapper were called Med Preps. I look forward to your video that can sort out my confusion. I also recall that the Med Preps were rebranded as AccuThrive. I tend to believe that because those blades sell for $65-$70 per 100 while the Comfort Coated blades sell for less than $20 per 100. Have you opened a can of worms 😱

    • @RazorEmporium
      @RazorEmporium  Před 7 měsíci

      These names are colloquial terms. Just like fatboy was never used by gillette, but coined a term by individuals.
      We ordered directly through accutec. Their catalog doesn't use the term lab blues at all. It does use comfort coated however, and when we order comfort coated, they come in a white wrapper.
      Please tell me why any logical conclusion can be made that blades wrapped in white wrappers should be called blues, but blades wrapped in a blue wrapper should be called something different?

    • @BartBuzz
      @BartBuzz Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@RazorEmporium There's nothing logical when it comes to "names." My understanding is that the Personna comfort coated blades were at one time in blue wrappers. Over time that changed to white wrappers but the name Lab Blue stayed. So it appears that people selling and using Personna CC blades are just as confused as I am. I have always been told that the Personna blades in blue wrappers were the Med Preps. I assumed that was true because the price was 3-4 times the CC blades. Hopefully, you can clear up the mystery with your video.

    Matt, thanks for doing this clear comparison. Personna labeling has been so confusing. Several years ago there was the rumor going through the shaving forums that the Med Prep blades and the Lab Blue blades were actually identical, but Personna charged a premium price for the Med Prep blades. I did exactly what you did here, a side-by-shave comparison. I had identical Edwin Jagger DE89 razors, with a Med Prep in one and a Lab blue in the other. It was obvious to me that the two blades felt different on my face, although now I don't recall which of them I liked better. I wrote up my test on one of the shave forums, and I got negative feedback from some people who believed the rumor and told me that I was WRONG. Sigh... can't let people get to you. Don't the "Med Prep" blades say "For Hospital Use" on them? I don't see that printed on my Comfort Coated blades so I'm wondering how can the be the same as the "Med Preps".

    Just to clarify, the Lab Blues have “for hospital use” on them, correct?
    Does the new black wrapper blades have “for hospital use” on them also???

    So is Lab Blue not the blade that comes in the rectangular box with 100 in it that says comfort coated and may say super on the blade very lightly? That was my impression. Comes in the white wrapper. Could not stand that blade.
    How do these stack up to Personna Platinum? I tried that blade and like it a lot.

    • @RazorEmporium
      @RazorEmporium  Před 7 měsíci +1

      No those are comfort coated :) platinum and accuforge are pretty similar. But even the platinum have changed - used to be made in Israel now are German. Will do a comparison video.

      @@RazorEmporium Huh - interesting! I have some supposedly "Lab Blue" blades and they are in white wrappers. I can't really tell a difference between them and Med Preps (though they have different markings). If Comfort Coated and Med Preps are the same, why do most vendors charge WAY more for Med Preps?
      (Can't say I'm overly fond of either, but the Israeli made Platinums are excellent; haven't yet tried the German-made version and won't need to for a while yet.)

      This company should be a college case study for the importance of consistent product branding/messaging. It’s a complete mess. I’m still a little confused!
      So which blades are the very faded print that say Super and come in a white wrapper? I tried those and did not like them at all.
      If I really like the Personna Platinums (assume they are platinums as they say something like Platinum Chrome on them), are the accuforge blades worth trying?

      @@MikeMCT Part of the reason it's such a mess is that the company has changed hands several times, and a few years back Edgewell sold off the American holdings to the company that, up to now, has been making the Med Preps, Lab Blues and Comfort Coated blades, while Edgewell retained the rest. They moved the Platinums / Reds to Germany a couple of years ago; not sure if they are still making the rest they used to make in Israel (e.g. Crystal, Eddison, Tomy, Viking Sword), or if they killed them off.
      I suspect Accutech only had a short-term licence for the Personna name as part of the purchase, and have decided not to renew the licence.

    Hello dear Matt!
    Thank you for doing this examination and sharing it with us.
    Believe me, I have no intention of being rude or criticizing for no reason, but I did find it necessary to share with you and the others what I observed as a careful and unbiased observer, so I have to say this:
    Even without taking into account the very questionable point of not writing the "MADE in USA" or even the Name of the Brand or Manufacturing Company or even putting a Logo and basically any other kind of writing or sign on those new Blades, and besides the very obvious differences in their appearance (such as the difference in the colour and the material of the metal which reminds us of the poor quality and cheapness, and even the form of the Edge of the Blade itself, and also the wider and more open cutting pattern in the middle of the blade), even we as viewers can notice an obvious difference in their Performances.
    I don't know how it can be possible that these two Razor Blades have no difference in their Performances and Feelings, and are exactly the same!

    • @RazorEmporium
      @RazorEmporium  Před 7 měsíci

      @@RazorEmporium No, I am not. I'm just talking about these two specific Razor Blades in this video., about the differences between the Appearances and Performances of the old one (which you wrote and said is the Personna Lab Blue) and the new one (which you wrote and said is the Accuforge),. You can call them A and B or 1 and 2.
