I desperately wanted Beanie to succeed because she’s a big girl like me. And yeah her singing is sub-par, but seeing people reduce her to her weight in these very comments is heartbreaking.
I will reduce her to her nepotism
Agreed!
Her physical appearance has nothing to do with my comments. Fine - run the clip without looking at the pictures. Listen to that "talent" (limited), that "singing" (limited"), that delivery ("limited"). The character should be played by someone who is UNLIMITED...Ms. Feldstein is of extremely limited ability.
SORRY But !!!🙄She was TOTALLY MISCAST !!!!!
@@beaellie9766 spot on!
Beanie Feldstein is sublimely talented. This may not have been the right role for her but I can't wait to see what she does next.
She might Be ???? But She SUCKED ! As Fanny BRICE 🙄
If they every make a broadway musical about mama cass Eliot, beanie would be perfect for that, but she was miscast for fanny Brice who was not short or a big girl either.
@@ilovemickyandhelove1 height and weight really aren’t the important factors here
@@ilovemickyandhelove1 She does not have the vocal chops to play Cass Elliot, for god's sake. Why is this person being inflicted on Broadway as if she has some god-given right to be there/
She is right for a lot of things, but she doesn't have the stage presence for a role like this.
I feel so bad for Beanie, especially now that it’s been confirmed that she’s getting replaced by Lea Michele, someone who’s a more obvious, standard choice for the role. I really would have liked to see Beanie succeed in the role and pave the way for more ‘out of the box’ casting like this on Broadway. Sadly it’s clear she vocally wasn’t the right fit for this role.
OMG by Lea? Finally they listened to the fans!
Michelle is NOT an obvious choice for the role. Fanny Brice was off-beat. Not a classic beauty. Awkward.
the thing is, by all accounts Lea can't perform the score well long term. Performing some of the score on tour she struggled and that's potentially why's she's negotiated for Julie to do a day of performances a week. That on top of her abusive behavior towards co-workers, it's jarring she actually was casted.
@@hubert6260 she's an abuser ...
@@trubenstudios4063 she's not considered a classic beauty by any standards. She's exotic, has a big nose. Not at all a perfect girl, though I think she's gorgeous
I feel so sorry for this young woman. I understand the decision, but the emotion cannot be ignored.
I agree with you!
I feel absolutely bad for beanie knowing now that she’s leaving the show I can only imagine how devastating she felt to get such bad reviews for her performance I really want her to succeed in this role because as usual a lot of big girls don’t get starring roles I do feel she’s talented I can only hope she has a good support system around her because I can only imagine how mentally frustrating it have been for her
I don't feel bad at all. Of course this was going to happen because she bought the role, they didn''t cast someone who truly is talented enough (like Lea Michele) to play fanny so I think it was inevitable.
@@haris8853 Lea is mid for bway and that’s no shade she is talented yes but some other people are actually better than her
TBH, if this video is any indication, she isn't a great singer. While I am a Lea Michelle fan from her Glee days, and once i saw Funny Girl was on Broadway I instantly thought out her, if Beanie was at least a decent vocalist I'd have seen her in the role. She just doesn't have what it takes for this part and it isn't because of her weight.
@@haris8853 How dare you speak truth!
@Alejandrx Velandia lol
She was amazing. I actually bought a second ticket to see her again. She was truly having a great time on stage.
I saw Beanie interviewed last year,at a convention in New York for Variety. She's adorable, and she'd been waiting to do this role her whole life. The critics were viscous towards this 28 year old. Of course no one has Streisand's voice, but they didn't have to attack her performance the way they did.
THIS.
That's the critics job. If people are going to fork out $$$ they should know what they're getting. I'm glad she's leaving the show, she ACTUALLY thought Barbra was coming to see her performance....puhhleeze
She is on freaking BROADWAY. Millions of young women have been "waiting their whole lives" to do this role. So where are they? This was a nepotism thing, but Beanie should have had the self-awareness to say "no, I know I can't do this role justice, so I'm not going to humiliate myself by trying." This video actually realize her performance was more horrible than I imagined. That thin, awful voice.
There's A LOT Of COUNTLESS of Adorable ! !! People !!! That Have Been Waiting !!!!!!!!! Too !! To Play ! Many Roles !!! In History !!!! But That DOES NOT Entitle ! ANYONE !! To Play them !!!!! WHEN And IF ???? THEY ARE NOT!!!!!! CAPABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙄 To !!!!🙄
The criticisms were fair. She was subpar. I felt bad for her when I saw the show. She was horribly miscast
It's really sweet that she got to play the role she's loved her whole life. But sometimes our dream role is simply not right for us and it's a shame she had to learn that the hard way. I mean, I absolutely love Elphaba, but I don't have the chops to be her even in a low budget school production, let alone on Broadway
You have to be realistic about some things. I want to play Esther in 'Intimate Apparel' but I am way past the age. There are other roles to aspire to.
perfect way to put it!! thankfully my car doesn't have ears to ear my bad singing!!! but I love to try!
There are plenty of roles I would love to play, but I'm at peace knowing I'll never play any of them. (For one, I'm an alto)
I've always wanted to play Tarzan, but unfortunately at 5'9" and 120 lbs I'd be better off playing Jane.

There should much more videos of her singing this song. If this is the best she can do, she was miscast for this role.

Lea is an amazing performer.
I read many comments defending Beanie that say that she’s an amazing singer but the show wasn’t working and wasn’t selling tickets. I read some reviews and they weren’t good, and this has nothing to do with her size. She is talented but maybe being Fanny isn’t her girl, I really wish her to find a role that’ll showcase her talent but it wasn’t Fanny. A show on Broadway needs to sell tickets to go on and if an actress isn’t good enough they find another one. Show business is a hard world, but it’s like this that works. And stop saying that people don’t like her just because of her weight, it’s 2022 and there are tons of gorgeous actresses that are big sizes, like in Funny Girl revival in London
Yeah, Broadway is one of the few frontiers left were talent matters. Beanie didn't last long, Lea is shining, makes you think how strong nepotism and wealth plays in Hollywood.
I feel like it was cruel to cast her in the first place if they were just going to let her go so early and replace her with Lea Michele. They knew she wasn’t a strong singer. No disrespect to Beanie; I love her and had high hopes, but I think it’s far more humiliating to lose the role the way she did, especially after they hyped her up so much for months and her debut led to a lot of criticism and panning and lack of Tony recognition. This will be a sour memory for her now instead of a dream fulfilled.
Exactly
Did Jonah push her too hard you think?
100% correct. The casting director and the team who agreed to hire her should be ashamed of themselves. They knew she didn't have the voice for this role and should have cast someone else from the beginning. They did a terrible disservice to Beanie and they also failed proper due diligence for their investors. Finally, I have some constructive criticism for Beanie on the following. She needs to fire her agent immediately. Both Beanie and Lea have the exact same agent. Total conflict of interest. Beanie should have seen this coming from miles away, especially knowing her agent also represented Lea. This entire production was so grossly mishandled from the start that it should be used as a case study in business school.
One word: Miscast! Two words: Limited voice!
Yay Lea! Sorry, I was hoping Beanie was ok…but that explains her reviews.
It reminded me of a good high school production.
A good high school production costs $20.00....not $175.00

Let us not forget a hit Tony-Award Winning Musical featuring a plus-size leading lady won acclaim and awards in 2002 --HAIRSPRAY!
wrong cast.. glad Lea is here and made this show alive again.
She wasnt ready
Not every actor is right for every role. It’s that plain & simple. Hairspray revival would have been a better choice leading role, her father could have made his daughter a Broadway sensation overnight. She’s wonderful in her film roles. The fact that she is leaving the show means she will pursue other creative ventures. Wishing her many future successes, she’s young and talented! ♥️
Why hairspray specifically? Because of her body or because of her vocal range? Size should not be a determinant of roles.
@@tristenappel-bernstein4262 To some extent… I’m pretty sure the whole world would be angry if they cast a skinny Tracy Turnblad
@@tristenappel-bernstein4262 and while Beanie does look like Tracy Turnblad she also doesn’t have the vocal chops for that role either. She’d butcher Good Morning Baltimore. I think she’s better suited for films and plays rather than musicals.
She wouldn’t be vocally good enough for any broadway musical.
She can possbily sing a supporting character role, but that lead? No.
People saying Beanie got bad reviews because of her weight are delusional. She's just not a great singer. This role was not for her.
Love you forever Beanie
Beanie is so cute, I'm sad how badly this all went. From what I have seen, I don't think she was the best choice vocally for this show. I am glad they didn't immediately choose a Barbra copycat though. I like when they have new takes on things. Beanie looks great on stage as Fanny, but her voice didn't fit. I hope Beanie gets another cool role that suits her voice better because she is super talented.
I loved her on broad city ♥️
it's really sad because I think she's has created a far more faithful interpretation of the role itself in regards to Fanny but people just keep comparing her performance to Barbara Streisand's take on the role which was very extensive vocally. It's annoying because it's nice to switch things up and not see the same take on the role replicated again but alas I hope people realise making fatphobic comments was never the right way to respond to this.
Oh for God's sake......"Funny Girl" is weak and subpar "play," a fact everyone and their Great Aunt Agnes knows. It's a MUSIC DRIVEN SHOW, a fact that Fanny Brice's son-in-law, the creator and producer of "Funny Girl," KNEW all too well. Hence, the great tunes and great voice, resulting in the role that made Streisand a star. Beanie's voice sucks, and as for her size? Fanny Brice was SLENDER!
@@dawnehelene59 my guy, you got so worked up you completely missed the point. It's a musical called 'Funny Girl', taking a more comedic route with this role isn't a bad thing. Saying Beanie's vocals suck is just a reach, she may not be as vocally powerful as other performers in the role but dogging tactlessly on her vocals is just embarrassing. As for a plus size casting ... does it impact the core of the character? no, I promise it's not that deep and lets be honest what about this musical screams accuracy??? Regardless, what I meant by bringing it up is that people aren't actually providing valid criticisms but rather just resort to degrading her because of her appearance which is frankly disgraceful and ultimately proves that a lot of these people didn't have an issue with Beanies performance but rather the fact she isn't a petite performer. I definitely understand disliking a performance, not everyone is a right fit for certain roles which is fine but you can voice such opinions respectfully, it's not hard.
Relax. Re-read my comments. Savor them. Take the time to digest my verbiage and as my comments work their way through your upper G.I., know that I meant every word in as respectful a manner as possible. But also understand that a spade is indeed a spade, which no amount of politically correct sugar coating will change. But first: Poor Beanie....funny as she was in a plethora of former roles...(heck, even her 4 episode guest spot in FX's "What We Do In The Shadows" was a hoot...."Staten Island Community College"...lol) she's totally out of her league in "Funny Girl." Tragically miscast, there is NOTHING "embarrassing" nor "tactless" (sic) about factual mediocrity. The woman was CAST as the LEAD in a "MUSICAL." Said woman CAN NOT SING. (she SQUEAKS!!) As for Beanie's (groan) broad "slapstick" approach to the role? That shtick died with Uncle Milty, Flo's "Follies," Jolson, The Palace, Cantor and Vaudeville itself. Indeed, your impassioned rhetoric that "people don't (sic) have an issue with Beanie's performance but rather (sic) her size," is fat activism at its worst and a cop out at best.. It's also an insult to those of us with normal BMI's, because Feldstein's size in no way handicaps her ability to move, jump, dance, et. al....rather, it's her acting and voice that stink. Badly. Pearl clutching aside, I also (strongly) suspect that 'attacks' on Beanie's curves have hit uncomfortably close to home. Regardless, although exceptionally cruel to women, deliver the "goods" and show business ALWAYS embraces talent over looks and/or weight.....every. single. time. Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Holiday, Melissa McCarthy, Carol Channing, Mama Cass Elliot, Gabourey Sidibe, Kathy Bates, Lizzo, America Ferrera, Carol Burnett, Susan Boyle, Bea Aurther, Liza Minnelli, Kelly Clarkson, Patti Lupone, Bette Davis, Queen Latifah, Shelley Duvall, Ethel Merman, et.al., ad naseum. And so, shout "fat shaming" till the cows come home and/or Beanie toddles on stage for that final bow come July 31st. Hopefully she'll lick her wounds and bounce back quickly, as so many have done before. I also hope that one day you'll brush that chip off your curvaceous shoulder and understand that bad is bad, regardless of tonnage and gross weight.
@@dawnehelene59 You said a whole lot without saying much. I reread both responses and still discern them as written out of pretentious ignorance. I promise you don't need to be a sesquipedalian to get your point across, it doesn't make you look smarter just more bothered. I do agree that there are roles that Beanie simply suits better, I do not deny that but like I said when professional critics are spending their time writing about her body rather than valid criticisms with her performance, it's tiresome and just plain bigotry. When you mention this 'political correct sugar coating' maybe it's just pointing out that the degrading comments made about her body are indeed disrespectful and egregious? because they are... not everything is a grand political stance, it's just pointing out that certain criticisms are truly unfounded. No matter how harshly you dislike a performance, you are in no position to attack someone personally from behind a screen. It's embarrassing and just a sad reflection on whom ever may be doing so, hence me saying this earlier. Not to mention your idea that to care about fat performers you must be fat yourself ?? like no ... I promise it's just basic empathy and your own assumptions on my body were a really silly attempt at straw-manning. If anything it just proves that the size and shape of a body isn't going to change the premise of an opinion but only deem how valid you perceive it to be, which is yet another form of fatphobic behavior. I praise the success of the women you named, but you act as if all of them are 1) truly conventionally unattractive and 2) haven't had either connections to the industry or are directly born from nepotism. That's not to mitigate the suffering they have faced in this industry, but for 9/10 cases it's not the industry embracing talent, it's embracing what will gain the most money at the time or simply taking what's already been bred there for them. I feel the need to reiterate to just be respectful and mindful when articulating yourself. That doesn't mean sugarcoat to the gods it just means bare in mind what you are actually saying and if you'll earn anything from saying it besides 3 seconds of validation. It's really truly not hard.
@@cymbelinesgf LOL.....Oh Dear, more anguish over the "egregious disrespect" that sadly unsuited Beanie is receiving. Look on the bright side, perhaps Feldstein's well timed "tonsillitis" will cling like grim death through July 31st, saving her from one final waddle on stage. That IS what you want to hear, correct?? That (gasp!!) Beanie woulda been a STAR had only those nasty, fat phobic critics and public IGNORED her 42" waist and just given the girl a chance! (squeaky little voice and all) Uh, no. Feldstein was vocally terrible, had a shaky grasp of the character, was out-acted by 99.9% of the ensemble and has cost producers millions in box office receipts since April. Indeed, I also confess to be deliciously curious with regards to this plethora of "fat phobic" reviews you claim to have read, as every professional review I've caught says nada about her size. ( but does reveal that a certain, rabidly sensitive 'plus size' is determined to beat this plump pony to death) And while we're on the subject of phobia's and prejudices, I'd LOVE to hear your take on the lack (not even a 'peep') of mention regarding Feldstein's homosexuality. What's that you say? "No one cares?" GOOD, then we're in agreement! Being queer has NO bearing on Feldstein's performance, while her lousy singing and acting does. It's not rocket science, she's simply not good. Curtain down and cut to black.
I'm so excited to see Lea Michele on Broadway
I wanted Beanie to be successful. She was great as Monica Lewinsky and was actually a funny girl in Lady Bird. But when the iconic notes are butchered in the commercial where they have ample opportunities to rerecord, edit, and fix the vocals...it just doesn't look good on the production. You can't replicate Barbra, but you can at least hire a woman with strong vocals. This production utterly reeks of nepotism and it's biting them in the ass. While I fully promote Julie getting her time to shine and hope she gets her opportunity, if they want to make back their investment and prolong the show just a bit longer they need to send in Lea to sell the tickets. Her entire run on Glee is basically an audition tape for Wicked and Funny Girl.
THANK YOU! Completely agree
Well the producers for once heard us , Lea is confirmed as Fanny Brice
@@sjie1874 I don't think they really had a choice...they were losing too much money. And Julie will be starring in one performance a week as well, so that's nice.

The only part where I see some people might not like her singing is when she sings “nobody’s gonna rain on my!” I’d say it’s the vocal directors fault for not telling her to open up her mouth more just to get the notes out pretty. She has a really good voice
Just like singing "Over The Rainbow" a song forever associated with Judy Garland, ...Funny Girl is a difficult show to revive because it was written AROUND THE STAR, A SPECIFIC STAR - Barbra Streisand which *will be forever associated with her*. Which is why it took so long for a Revival. The show needs "a Star with enormous vocal power". Jules Styne wrote the songs and really customized it to Ms. Streisand's vocal strength, power, and range. THIS IS ALWAYS THE CASE & THE PROBLEM when you have a show built around a "Popular Star"-- especially when he or she is IRREPLACEABLE and has left his/her mark in that role and made it THEIR OWN. Everyone else who follows taking on that role will "have huge shoes to fill" and often not successfully. And when the Star is no longer there and leaves the show--- it FAILS to sustain the public's interest and box-office returns.
Funny gril is based off a comedy actress. .. not Barbara...wtf is this ignorant comment?
The rather cruel comments here are missing the larger point. There is no reason to revive "Funny Girl" on the stage. Just see the movie. THAT is the definitive version with the one performer who will always own that role.
That’s a dumb as hell, The musical is iconic and deserves a good revival

Nepotism can only carry you so far
I absolutely love body diverse casting and I am a larger person myself. But sadly, she was miscast. You can tell in this clip. The vocal clip at the end is just NOT good and I assume this was the best they had not to mention they had the magic of an editing process. I don't know why people think NY critics should make nice for someone who likely got this role at least somewhat due to nepotism and doesn't remotely have the vocal chops to pull it off. No one should be body shaming, but I personally haven't seen that as the case. The production team didn't do her any favors.
As someone tangentially involved with pro/semi-pro vocal and theatrical talent there are SO many more talented singer/actors in this world than will ever have a chance to be on Broadway. I don't know why people act like because your daddy is someone your feelings are more important. I think it is awful how the change is rolling out. And honestly, I'll be shocked if this runs very long after the switch. It's like going from one stunt casting to another. I guess negative attention is still attention and might sell some tickets for a little bit.
Seriously! Beanie had no business in this industry! They had to lower the standard just for her to measure up, and she still was unable to keep up! Hell, her UNDERSTUDIES were getting more praise than her! This proves Beanie's name is bigger than her talent. Size has nothing to do with it!

It’s seriously SO heartbreaking to see the way the theater community has treated Beanie. She is incredibly talented and beyond deserving of this role. I am so disappointed in what has transpired and seriously can’t wait to see her bounce back and make all the haters eat their words. She’s a star.
I can honestly say that I don't care if the leading lady has to be hoisted onto the stage with a fork lift, IF she can sing the part I would have been 100% in her corner. But I think it is telling that in this commercial where Beanie (a) only had to sing a tiny bit (b) they could have had her do it a hundred times if necessary to get her best (as opposed to live where it is one shot at it) and (c) since it is a recording they could have tweeked her vocals with a million electronics, she didn't sound good. I wish her success in her next venture but this just wasn't right for her. And IF the stories of her dad being a financial backer are true, then she kind of shot herself in the foot. If I were dumb enough to enter a bodybuilding competition I would expect to be put down, because there are specific criteria for that that I don't meet. I wouldn't say well I have a great personality and am very intelligent so I deserve to win. Just as if someone with a low IQ shouldn't enter a mathletes competition and not expect criticism because they are good looking. (Not saying you can't have both muscles and intelligence, just pointing out that when you don't have both, you can't exchange one for the other.)

I personally love Beanie’s singing, I love that little vibrato she did on that final “my”. But, I do have to agree with others that her voice isn’t as strong as Julie’s or Lea’s
I think people miss the point. The show is called Funny Girl, the lead needs to be a comic actress first and for most. Just like Sweet Charity the singing doesn’t need to be diva level, in fact it is more keeping in character if she’s not a belter. You are rooting for an underdog.
Oh but you are so wrong
@@Vikuku hahaha but I’m not an I? It was written for a specific actress, which people can’t let go of. People can’t separate that this is meant to be Fanny Bryce not Barbara. The UK run had no such issues.
@@dizzyduck44 Jule Styne writes for belters. The belting has dramatic purpose. I am sorry Debbie but this just falls short.
@@Vikuku not every song requires a belt. From what I’ve seen of this some of the musical arrangements are awful and everyone seems to miss the concept of if you act every phrase, the build, the drama will happy regardless of whether you belt. Merely hitting the notes sells this show short. More emphasis on thinking about what you are actually singing and less on but everyone expects it to sound like that.
Case in point Six. Every Queen brings a different interpretation of the character and thereby the songs. Some play with comedy, some with emotion, some diva belt. That is their choice to make, the audience to have to deal with it.
Why was beanie removed from the role of Fanny Brice on Broadway what happened
cuz she just could not carry the show.. horrible box office... almost killed the show.. the whole production team was with her until they just could not.. it is everyone's job... the 1st week where Lea started to play, the box office got boosted by over 1M dollars..
Beanie got lots of terrible reviews, including multiple fat shaming comments. Eventually ticket sales started to go down. She also got sick a few times throughout her run, where Julie Benko (the Fanny standby) went on, to much critical acclaim, and Julie got lots of word of mouth praise. So much so that ticket sales increased the week that Julie was on. Then, Beanie announced she was leaving a month earlier, and then they casted Lea Michele. Now that Lea is playing Fanny, the show is making around $1 million a week. I don’t know if she quit or if she was fired, but one of the producers said that they wanted to fire her 3 weeks after the show opened…
poor thing
I can picture Beanie on other Musicals however the "Funny Girl" is not for her.
Yalls best decision was to put Lea Michele on here. Don't know why yall didn't do it sooner.
Honestly don’t get the hate. Queen Beanie was slaying as usual
I saw Beanie in the show and thought she was wonderful.
I feel like that “Hello gorgeous” was underwhelming and her singing is good. Is it right for this part? She’s still a very talented, good actress. I loved her Ladybird.
this particular verson started in the UK about 5/6 years ago, same production team and same director , it toured in the UK, now it was the same kinda thing a British actress called Sheridan Smith , fabulous actress decent voice and the whole idea was to make it more an acting role, and less about hitting those big notes and the songs and the definitive film, reviews were decent, but when Sheridan took time off due to family issues her understudy took over, singer/actress, could hit the big notes like a wild thing, and it worked better, I find it strange they've done the same thing on Broadway, surely they would have learnt their lesson. but then im in no doubt Nepotism and Daddys money may have swung the role in Beanies favour,
This. Everyone is here reducing Beanie to her voice or her size when the reality is the producers (including her own father) had had plenty of opportunity to see how audiences already responded to a less conventional characterization of the role. And Sheridan is a great and established actress in the UK. The producers made a mistake and then left her exposed to the bad reviews. They should be held far more accountable about the miscasting of Beanie.
@@carriew5106 Her father isn’t mentioned ANYWHERE on the Playbill and isn’t publicly tied to the production. It is purely just a rumor that nepotism got her the role because there’s no proof *anywhere* that she got it through her father. It’s speculation off of nothing. You can critique her all you want but nepotism shouldn’t be in the conversation here.
Here's the trailer for the successful West End revival of FUNNY GIRL, starring Sheridan Smith who is a bit plus-size, too:

Is that Jane lynch?
yes
@@Lllumacc i guess another moment where glee predicted the future
@@alexandriatay8502 lol, watch lea get cast as fanny
@@Lllumacc she did.
I’m sorry, but she has neither the pipes nor the notable acting abilities. She’s a nepo baby and it’s unfortunate that she creates a precedent in the industry ( a big girl in a not so obvious role) with such bad reviews
Oh no. No no no no no. How did she even get to audition?
Y’all she’s a human being that can see these - can you have some decency? if you don’t like it just don’t go…. she’s not gonna take advice from angry middle aged men who likely spend more time on the internet than with their families.
I hope she reads it and decides to go into another line of work. bookkeeping, maybe
Then why do you care what people write here in comments?
She SUCKED ! In THIS ROLE !+: That's ALL !!!!! And I Spend a Lot Time ! With My Family !! And Don't Do the WEB !!! 👍🙄,
I saw Beanie and even though her voice was not as dynamic as I would have liked for this role, I really enjoyed her as Fanny because she was authentic and very funny. Even though Lea Michele has the voice, casting her as Fanny is the wrong choice. Fanny had a sweetness and self deprecating humor that Lea lacks and I can’t see her pulling off the role. Dare I say she reminds me of a Jewish princess (I’m Jewish).
She's truly amazing. Love her. Watching from the UK.
I sing DROMP better than her but i don't have a daddy could buy me in..
I find it odd That so many are so concerned with that girl with her rich Hollywood connections. She is no Jennifer Hudson. Being bigger doesn't excuse you for being a one trick pony. Her range is very limited.
Gotta be honest. I don’t think she sounds that bad. Could she be better? Yes. A few more voice lessons would probably be good. But I think she sounds even better than Kelly Sheridan, who I already thought was good in the role. Plus, Fanny Brice herself was hardly a belter. She was kind of a crooner. Ig the real problem is they wrote this role for Streisand. It’s kinda saddening to me.
Everyone takes these Lea Rumors as fact . She has been in the business for twenty years. Her awareness of her career goals make it ridiculous that she would choose such a vulgar, image inducing threat as $#&^$## in a wig . I don't believe it . So I tend to believe a lot of others jumped on The train for instarGram content . She may have been mean, but she carried The Glee phenomenon, and all her critics neglect To mention that. The only nod they give her is " She may be talented but..." I thought Show Business was accepted as really rough.
beanie is stunning
*stunningly bad
have we also considered that Funny Girl isn't very good in general?
Granted, that Lea Michele has the vocal chops to tackle the challenging songs of FUNNY GIRL - the QUESTION REMAINS: CAN SHE BE FUNNY? DOES SHE HAVE THE COMEDIC CHOPS AND TIMING TO DO THE FUNNY SCENES OF A SHOW BASED ON A LATE FAMOUS JEWISH PERFORMER WHO WAS A COMEDIENNE "FIRST" & A SINGER, 2ND?!
It remains to be seen if Ms. La Michele can MAKE US LAUGH ONCE SHE TAKES OVER THE ROLE. We already KNOW she can make her audience (and fellow actors) cry with her beautiful voice and...HER "DIVA ATTITUDE AND RACIST MICRO-AGGRESSIONS. We'll see...
The SAGA of FUNNY GIRL continues....
I watched the show before she left. Her acting was great and good comedic timing, but the singing was incredibly underwhelming. I know she was trying to do her own style but we’ve been spoiled with the chops of Babs for a thousand years now and if anyone was gonna fill those size 50 shoes of hers it was not Beanie. If only Soshana Bean were a few years younger she could have crushed this role!
What were the producers thinking? Streisand was a massive talent in this show and they needed an equal heavy weight. I could tell from this trailer she just didn't have it. But that's show biz. Hold your head up and move on to the next project. And Lea MIchele? She has the same kind of voice Beanie Feldstein has. They should just shut the production down. Not unless the Glee fan club can fill the seats. Which I doubt.
Les Michèle does not have the same voice as Beanie at all??
i’m sorry what?! Lea can sing her ass off😭please get your ears checked
Did you just say lea has the same kind of voice as beanie 💀. Ummm. You clearly do not know at all what you’re talking about
Wtffff??? There’s a WHOLE DIFFERENCE in lea’s and beanie’s voice wtf
Hold up. I'm honestly curious as to what makes Lea's voice sound like the same kind to Beanie's for you. Care to share your thoughts on that?
Omg people.. It's not about her size. It just doesn't fit her vocal style...
Seeing Jonah in drag would've been fun.
Listen, she seems like a perfectly lovely person. And she's talented...particularly love her in Booksmart and on WWDitS. But she should never have gotten within 3000 feet of this role. This show should never have been revived in the first place, either; outside of a couple great songs, it's pretty flimsy.
lea michele is your turn
Yeah no they probably shouldn’t have a known racist in the show…try again
Julie Benko!
@@littleshopofhorrors_2786 Really! They're gonna replace her with one of the most detested people in show biz? Lea should be cancelled.
That “Hello, gorgeous” made me cringe so hard. It’s the producer’s fault. She’s way out of her depth, but what should she have done? Turn down a title role on Broadway? I wish her well.
lea michele is coming!!!!! THANKS GOD
Coming to hate on minorities and make everybody's life miserable
Sounds more like Satan's work to me.
A known racist being invited to the Tony’s…yeah thank god :/
Julie Benko deserves it. She is great as Fanny.
@@littleshopofhorrors_2786 Seriously. Lea is an appalling hateful person.
Beanie Feldstein is NOT doing or interpreting Fanny Bryce as "Barbra Streisand the Singer". She is playing Fanny Bryce as comedienne Fanny Bryce AS Beanie Feldstein. God forbid, an Actor try to make a role "theirs" in their own way and NOT BE A CARBON COPY or A COPYCAT of a famous Diva-Singer-Actress! Btw, the real FANNY BRYCE WAS NO BARBRA STREISAND VOCALLY but she had PATHOS & BATHOS as a performer that made her very relatable.
That's all swell, but the thing is Funny Girl is only remembered for its good music. Don't Rain On My Parade is iconic and still one of the most known Broadway songs. The writing for the show itself is mediocre at best.
It appears being Jonah Hill's sister has some benefits... ick.
Her dad being a producer probably had more to do with it than that
This was a great idea on paper, but….
Too bad it didn’t work, but Lea and Tovah will right this ship.
Lady Gaga anyone? Or Arianna Grande? Or Kelly Clarkson?
Lady Gaga was my first choice after seeing this in previews. It was quite painful to watch. A talented actress - just really bad casting.
YES. Gaga would OWN the role!
@@vincent8199 wtf, she's nowhere near good enough for Broadway as an actress - vocally, maybe.
Funny Girl is like Cats - it’s not a good musical to begin with. So I was not surprised when it got overwhelmingly negative reviews. At least Cats has the advantage of being visually pleasing with their acrobatics and set decorations.
It is a good musical.
If it was SO BAD, why was it the # ONE film of 1968?
@@richardbocanegra5945 bc of Barbara. The plot isn’t very strong and the songs are just okay if you take away Barbara’s star power.
@@Phia525 ..it's an opportunity for an actress to utilize their comic + dramatic talents in a.romantic musical comedy. The score by Jules Stein is exquisite and it is the ultimate star-making vehicle. It's a GREAT musical if beanie.feldstein is NOT in it. don't blame the material.
