Finally done another bass video after a long break!! This is me playing a lovely walking bass line from Jethro Tull's version of JS Bach's Bourée in E Minor on my new Snowglow Rickenbacker!!
@@penkal1981 Oh do come on! Glenn was a difficult act to follow. This isn't an absolute copy but it was a reasonable attempt, though the solo needs a bit of work.
WOW very well done. Glenn would be happy to see this. I met Gldnn a long time ago in the late 70s as he was a friend of my new roommates and he was as nice as they get. He used to come over at least once or twice a week. Said he liked that no one bothered him about what happened with JT. and he and my roommate and the girlfriends would just be about anything else. OF course there was talk about Jethro Tull but over all it became just like any other friend coming over. That went on for about 6 months before he moved away. BUT a few times when he came over (long before texting or anything as we lived right in the heart of Hollywood at Fountain and La Cienega. And a few times I was here alone and we'd get high and hang and finally I asked him bout this little tune as a fellow bass player I said there were sections I just didn't figure out and asked if he could point out where I was screwing up. He said he didn't even remember it himself as it was just the recording where he played it. He said live Ian ALWAYs played over HIS SOLO and it used to piss him off and as a result he just sort of played the standard opening and let Ian just do what he wanted. SO we spend the better part of an hour BOTH figuring out the parts he couldn't remember himself. That was one of the coolest nights I can remember. Just spending a few hours with him and we played other stuff as well and were as high as kites and probably laughed ourselves silly a few times. It was one of those times you remember for the rest of your life. HE would have LOVED this.
I wish I could play my flute part with you ! None of my bass players in bands I played could make it as good as you! All the best! Great talent! Keep on rocking my dear!
always fantasized about owning a Rickenbacker... you've joined the ranks of Paul MCartney, John Entwhistle, Giddy Lee and probably many more I'm not mentioning.
Bought a Ric a few years ago and sold it after about 4 gigs. The neck on those things are like 4x4's. My hands are large so it shouldn't have made a difference I just wasn't comfortable with it. The P/U's on those basses don't really work independently very well either. I guess it jut comes down to preference. The up side is they sound great.
@@nickrobinson7283 stingrays are quite popular. I got my hands on one and thought the neck felt like holding the wrong end of a baseball bat. Maybe the middle. Last weekend I got to play someone's Ric for the first time. While it didn't quite feel like a log, I didn't like the squareness of the neck. The slack string tension of the 32 inch scale was cool, but I came to the conclusion that after years of drooling over one, that the damaged pawnshop bass I got for less than the cost of a set strings is going to out play anything under a thousand dollars.
The solo is not perfect, but a brave attempt - braver than most Tull bass players after Glenn Cornick in fact, who never dared to try it on stage. (Notable exception: Jonathan Noyce.)
@@jimking3288 The only instrument I can play a little is Tin Whistle; I once fiddled with a guitar and found out that string instruments are way over my head and beyond the pain tolerance of my fingers.
Original bass by Glenn Cornick. The best bass player Jethro Tull ever had. He was kicked out of the band becauae Ian Anderson didn't like Glenn partying too late with the girls.
Só faltou o timbre um pouco mais grave, talvez se você tocasse com a mão em cima do captador do braço vc alcançasse o timbre. Mas tá muito bom, parabéns!!!
Nice to see genuine music being appreciated in this day and age
Got your snark in for the day?
Bass collection and an amp by the bed. Now THAT'S a dedicated musician!
Nicely done. Glenn Cornick would be proud!!
