I sooo agree about not needing to have a 12 step skincare routine and being minimal! Nobody has time for that! 😂 loved this chat ladies! 🙌🏻
I told my best friend that she wasn’t applying enough sunscreen and she laughed at me😂 We both have oily skin so applying enough and not feeling greasy can be challenging to say the least🥲
victoria here. i really. reALLy. feel this.
Ahhh!!! Been waiting and eager to watch part 2 since the "connection broke" 🤣🥺!!!!!
I nearly got fed up when the connection “broke” in the first part! I’m all in it for PART DEUX!!! ✌️big shoutout for Victoria and Gloria for spilling the tea & information. And always..ALWAYS!!! (FAVE SUNSCREEN IS THE COSRX SOOTHING ALOE!!!!) *#ThanksGals* ✨🙂
I have this and it’s amazing! 👌🏼✨💕
Do you have dry skin cause I’m looking for a sunscreen
I can't get over how similar the duos are victoria and Gloria act and look so alike fel and ro... I'm loving all of this.
It took me 20+ years to know the importance of sunscreen.. Glad that there's a lot of sunscreen information and awareness everywhere now
I was mind blown by the fact that tinting your windows could help your skin. Would’ve never thought of this
I find the cultural differences associated with sunscreen super interesting, and fact that there a so many different formulations of it now it’s really cool how our understanding has advanced over the years to what we have available to us today! I grew up in Australia so sunscreen was a MUST but I also remember HATING IT because of the older “sunblock” formulas, but moving to England for 8 years and essentially seeing people only use sunscreen when they go on holiday was INSANE to me 😂 Asian culture on sunscreen is such a refreshing outlook holding such importance to sunscreen and why we need it everyday for free radical barriers and anti-aging purposes in comparison to the standard aussie “you’ll burn” reasoning 😅😊
LOVE THE COLLAB 🥰
I have no patience for giveaways, I just went ahead and bought the book 😂
I liked when they said don’t be afraid of chemical sunscreens. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Great video
This was one of my favourite videos from Beauty Within!! Would love to see more videos with Chemist Confessions
I love the fact that it not a size fits all and the fact that we have to use our judgement to see if we are applying the right amount. I will definitely be using the twenty second rule
I like how honest and realistic the frequency of applying sunscreen. With that...I have subscribed. I wonder what is your review with Alumier products like their sunscreens too.
Love both parts to this video series. The tip with applying sunscreen not only to your face but also neck, ears and lips is super important as these are often forgotten. I did not think about applying sunscreen to your feet when wearing sandals and now the burnt sausage image is forever ingrained in my brain 😂 Thanks for the laughs and awesome content @michi.mish
I am ndj12, and I just wanted to say how nice this book looks. I love the illustrations. My tip is the best sunscreen is the one you will use.
Its an awesome 👏 having them and getting some solid facts on sunscreen !! Bravo 👏 ladies
For the ones with olive medium to deep tan and oily skin my recommendation is the Missha Essence sun spf45 the pink one and Canmake one no white cast and light textures.
I miss the Purito one so bad I really hope it comes back to the market soon 😭
As a horticulturist this is so helpful! I apply 4 times a day! It’s crazy but so so needed.
Been waiting for this video, thank you!
Finally! You've let us a big suspense on the last video xD!!!
I love the information that the two finger rule is not always accurate. I felt like the protection varied depending on the sunscreen texture, etc. I really appreciate the validation that the two finger rule doesn’t also work and alternative tips like rubbing it in for 30 sec. @Saskiawesome
And thank you so much for having your book on the Scribd app💜💜💜
I love Japanese brands. Ive been using Allie and Anissa, easy to find here in HK.
Ahhh I looove this topic... I had no idea where to start with sunscreen but now i do thanks this. I live in Hawai'i so its always sunny here and very humid like everyday and night haha. So my favorite tip was to try asian brands bc of the similar climate they have to ours and to also use mineral based bc i am a sensitive skin type. Thanks soo much i always love watching your guys videos its soo much fun ❤
i will try to purchase the book. just thinking about getting it makes me excited to learn more about skin and ingredients 💗☺️. i’m still on a look out for sunscreen because i am running out of my Krave beet shield sunscreen 🥺
Gotta get my hands on that book♥️♥️♥️I’ve been loving SuperGoop, REN & EltaMD. With SuperGoop being the main (1) I reach for. I keep the spray in my bag for retouch💯👌🏽
Ro & Fel really came with solid questions. Thanks again for a great interview and hope we were able to provide some helpful insight...ok maybe just one helpful insight... :)
I just bought the book!! I love it!!
My question - when you re-apply, do you have to remove the layer of sunblock already on your skin for the new application to be able to reach your skin and work properly?
Sunscreen doesn't have to reach your skin to work! It acts as a defensive layer sitting on top of the skin - that's why it's always the last step of a skincare routine. So you can reapply on top of previous applications if you want to.
I thought physical sunscreens sit on as a layer that reflect UV rays, but chemical sink in to the skin (hence the 15 minute wait time before going outside) which absorb the rays but protect the skin?
@@georgiaevans9978 this is a myth based on misunderstanding. All sunscreens work immediately after you apply them, none of them need to sink into the skin or "activate". If you look at instructions on bottles of mineral sunscreen, they will also suggest a waiting time after applying. This is because all sunscreens work best when they dry down into a smooth, even layer, so they tell you to wait before you head outside to start sweating or running or anything else that might disturb the layer of sunscreen before it dries. Additionally, mineral and chemical sunscreens work in pretty much the same way, by absorbing UV and converting it into heat. Scientists used to think that mineral sunscreen worked by scattering/reflecting the rays, but more recently found out that only happens to about 5% of rays, the rest is absorbed.
Yeah but what about the germs and dirt that has accumulated already... Can we reapply on that?? I did that when i used to wear mask and i got acne!
@@simonsaysism thanks for you reply :)
Thoughts on reactions to organic formulations?! I'm starting to break out in a sever rash when I use them 😫
I loved them. Seriously ❤️💫
I got the Murad sunscreen when it was on sale for $40 at Sephora and I am loving it..🥰 it's out of stock RN. I will definitely buy more as soon as it goes on sale again.💁♀️

I learned that I need to check out La Roche Posay’s sunscreens!
IG @cassandrahlee
My favorite part of the video was learning about the two finger rule “myth”. I generally don’t like getting sunblock all over my whole fingers because it can leave my fingers feeling too oily, but learning that just making sure it takes 20-30 seconds to fully rub in means you’re applying enough makes me feel confident that I’ve been applying enough sunscreen in the mornings!
insta: @kcheng21
Please have international giveaway next time 🙏😭 ooooh, snagging that book🤩
@bbrandinguyen
I learned how important it is to apply sunscreen on other areas of your body like your ankles!! I’d never thought of doing this when applying sunscreen on my face but it makes so much sense
during winter time do we need to apply sunscreens also? thanks live in colder place (canada)
There were so many good tips ahh! I think some of my favorites are def tint your windows; you don't need a 12 step routine, the 2 step routine can work for many people; don't forget places like your ears and ankles for suncreen; and I would say the best tip of all is find a sunscreen you will reapply because I am stuck in a boat where I am not a fan of the sunscreens I have but I am trying to find something that works for me. Thank you for this awesome video! It was super informative. @mynameisamitha
I never thought about putting sunscreen on your ankles but it makes total sense! I remember forgetting to put sunscreen on my feet too in the summer and having the most painful sunburns on the tops of my feet after a day at the beach. @lipozia (starts with an undercase L not an I)
So I have tan bronze skin and I have been using ETUDE HOUSE Sunprise Mild Airy Finish for a couple years now. Korean skincare works so well on my skin BUT I’m wondering what similar version for body as these are too small to use consistently in summer full bodyy
I need to know the paint color of that wall behind them 😻
really enjoyed both segments and learning about my obsession with SPF esp So Cal summers and also the difference between chemical and mineral! hope to see the girls on again - looking forward to reading the book or gifting! @porkiesmom
I had already learned about sunscreens with Beauty Within but it was refreshing to learn that I don’t necessarily have to wait 15 mins before going out after applying sunscreen. Guys, thank you so much for the things you share on your channel I discovered you guys during quarantine & your videos have helped so much. @yesitsahere_kisses
"Best anti-aging tip: tint your windows" - yup! Got my windows tinted years ago cuz I learned that helps block UV rays. It also helps keep the car cooler, something much needed during SoCal summers! @jennifertaing
That's so cool thanks for that. 😉👍
Oh it’s a MUST in Texas. You will fry in your car if you don’t.
Just any colour tint or is there such a thing as UV blocking tint?
I don’t know if it’s something that is available elsewhere, but in Australia you can get specific tinting that has high UVA protection. But probably any tinting will help somewhat. I also flip the sun visor over to the side window if the sun is streaming in on the drivers side window. Lately I’ve been wearing a scarf also to protect the side of my face.
It’s illegal to tint car windows where I live past a certain point😭my boyfriend has his windows tinted one level past the legal tint and he’s gotten tickets for it. You can still see into the car and EASILY see out too (I’m night blind and can still see outside at midnight). Skin cancer runs in his family so he got it to be more safe.
The Best Sunscreen 🧴 tip I learned was that the two finger rule wasn’t enough. I’ve lived by that rule for a about a year now 😱😱😱
I used to think mineral sunscreens were better for skin but I always struggled with finding one without a heavy white cast. Also always wondered whether the percentage of ingredients made a big difference. It’s good to know that the important thing is to find a sunscreen you enjoy the experience and texture of and that all sunscreens are tested for efficacy. Excited to try some new chemical sunscreens!
Instagram: @mmojo.jojo
This reminded me to check the expiration date on my sunscreen. It expired last month.
Do you have any tips on how to apply sunscreen on top of Vaseline? My skin has been so sensitive and only Vaseline works. Vaseline is the only product that calm my skin and doesn’t mKe it turn red. I haven’t been able to figure out how to apply sunscreen with Vaseline 😢
I liked the 20-30 second tip with sunscreen application. It’s not just the visible amount on your fingers that matters, but the length of time it takes to rub in is also something to consider. @malpalcreation
My favorite tip was learning that you need a little more than 2 fingers! And not to forget the ankles! @karagonegreen
I have a question...
Can i use exfoliating toner and after that use an exfoliater?
Favorite tip: it should take 20-30 seconds to rub in your sunscreen. No more guessing how much sunscreen is enough 😊 @3veee
my favorite tip was learning that it should take a while to rub in an adequate amount of the sunscreen @bhabnapati
Tips: When you said to tint your windows and put sunscreen on your toes and hands. I remember my grandma always wearing gloves in the car while driving because her hands would get so dark.
Was eagerly waiting for the second part 😍 I am a South Indian with brown skin staying in Houston. So sunscreen is something that I always carry with me. Even if going to get groceries.
There are 2 tips that I think can be helpful:
1. The best thing I’ve recently fell in love with is using sunscreen sprays to reapply. I lather a huge amount of sunscreen in my morning routine but reapplying it every 2 hours makes it a bit harder to me. So I carry my neutrogena daily defence mist with me and use it. If possible I try to spray it in my hand and evenly apply it to my face. But if not possible, spray on my face and dab it on to my skin.
2. UPF Clothing. If you have friends who are hard to be convinced to use spf, atleast this can help a bit. I have a couple of friends who don’t use sunscreens because they don’t like the feeling it leaves on the face. So i gifted them Baleaf UPF Hooded Jackets. Althought it isn’t a lot, it’s better than no protection.
Hope this helps you all.
I would love to get the book and learn more about skin and ways to protect it.

I really resonate with the not forgetting sunscreen on the ankles tip. I liberally apply sunscreen there but I still tan; oh well, at least I'm somewhat protected. I also appreciate the mention of a minimal skincare routine! @vikey.lane
Favorite sunscreen tip is to apply a good amount on hand and it takes at least 20 seconds to rub in. I used to follow the 3 finger rule, but it’s always better to have more sunscreen! @imjeanyang
Would love it
I have been following beauty within and chemist confession for so long hence I'm so trilled with this collab!!! Best sunscreen fact that i have learned here is that we don't necessary need to wait 15-30mins post sunscreen application to go out! I personally never really stick to this rule and have been feeling guilty for the longest time! Now i got my answer from the experts! Thank you ladies for doing what you do! @its_ashlyn2.0
I loved hearing Gloria's and Victoria's honest opinion about applying sunscreen every two hours that is popularly shown on social media. As someone who is busy throughout the day, I always feel guilty about forgetting to apply but I'm happy to know it's not just me! Also sharing that you don't have to break the bank to get quality sunscreen is refreshing because it's definitely something I get concerned about because I'm not sure if a lower price tag means lower sunscreen quality. But knowing that companies especially bigger corporations have the resources to thoroughly test is refreshing. Loved watching the chat and my ig is @_anaislawson_
The tip I resonated most with was to pick the sunscreen that fits with you and that you enjoy the most regardless of price. Price does not dictate how well it works which I found really helpful because I feel sometimes you get competitive. So now knowing that essentially “it’s the thought that matters” is the most important thing makes me feel a lot less pressure to use “the right product”. @rachelweinrick
Ok, so here goes my sunscreen tip: is to apply a second coat over a generous first coat of sunscreen to the face, neck, ears, and back of hands to make sure you have it covered properly. @pepechongo
Hi, I’m Ajeng.
I’m recently curious about the UV index and sunscreen. I read that UV index below 3 is moderately safe. So we don’t really need to apply sunscreen. But, for your opinion, is that really safe? Or better we use sunscreen everyday everyhour? Start applying early since the sunrise? Thank you.
I think experts say that because they know that most people don't want to have to apply sunscreen every single day, and they're trying to reach a compromise that more people will be willing to stick to. Also because that low-index exposure can give us a bit of vitamin D. However, the UV index ONLY measures UVB. UVA is present pretty much anytime the sun is up, even if it's covered by clouds. Therefore I think it's safest to always use sunscreen.
is it necessary to wear sunscreen on body daily for east asian men in late 30s?
It is SO lovely to hear answers to questions that have built up for me about sunscreen since I started my skincare journey with BW over the last few years. BUT, I have got to say that the best sunscreen tip I have is from a different video on Rowena's personal channel: apply sunscreen whether I'm staying in or going out, cloudy or sunny,... moral of the story: don't be lazy and put on sunscreen! @crystalkang_
i definitely need to sunscreen my ankles more and didn’t know what the PA+++ was until this video! thank you for sharing! @makeup.trends.18
my favorite tip is simply just buying a sunscreen that you love to apply!!! i use an ulta brand sunscreen even though i’ve never seen anyone recommend it just because i love the way it feels and looks on my skin! don’t get caught up in all the sunscreen trends if you have one you already love and know you’ll use :) instagram handle is @laken.a
omg i am victoria. victoria is me. i have the exactly same routine. ditto
How can i remove the white cast of sunscreen, because when am out am looking like clown & i just only have one sunscreen
it's really nice to hear that you don't have to go overboard with anything (ie: getting spf 100 or spending $50+ for "good" sunscreen) in order to get decent skin protection. everyone's all about getting the best money can buy but i'm glad that people from the field can confirm that as long as you're consistently using it you'll be fine no matter what you end up buying (ig: daintyprinces)
I loved learning about the proper way to apply! I do kind of rub some leftover sunscreen on my ears, but I forget about BEHIND them! Also ankles? Duh...how have I never thought of this?? (I also love the honesty about not being perfect with 2 hour scheduled reapplication. We're people, not robots!)
@jessicurry2010
So excited for the next video!
sooo happy about p2. some really great opportunity to learn about things straight from people who have worked in product development. favourite facts that i've learned:
ingredients don't tell everything because each ingredient and the amount interacts differently with each other (p1)
what the heck PA++++ meant! i had no idea that it was an indicator on UVA which is AWESOME !!!
my IG handle is @purpleiceprincess
Favorite tip: apply more than you think! The two-finger rule may not work for all sunscreens, considering that different products dispense different volumes. Also, remember to apply sunscreen on the lips, behind the ears, ankles, and toes! Does tinting your car windows really help with sun protection? @alyrrod
Yey!!!! I thought I'm having an unhealthy skincare routine. I only have two steps too. Haha.
Best tip is to not forget to protect the lips! Great vid:)
@princessdidee
best tip about sunscreen: framing your spf product as an anti aging product 🤯 definitely shifts my perspective on making sure I’m more diligent with applying it & getting the right formula for me // ig: @tamie_
This video is alll about sunscreen right which I don't use in my skin care routine at all
my fav sunscreen tip would be applying loose powder over my sunscreen. sometimes my sunscreen tends to melt into my eyes & so applying loose powder over it def helps with that🙆♀️ one fact tht i've learned after watching this video would be to start applying a lipbalm with sunscreen on the lips too @aneesha_kaurr
Does the Biore sunscreen have any without essential oils or that particular scent?
I've heard that Kose Suncut Water In UV Protect Essence is similar, without the essential oils. :)
Try the renewed sunscreen from round lab - fragrance free and alcohol free with all the newest filters
@@alicecgong thank you!!!!
@@mentusanarih thank you
2 fingers rule is already a lot and they are saying you need more🤣🤣🤣
Btw what about for products that have suggested usage in coin size?
Fave hack: use more than you think you'll need
IG: @blankcanvasmakeup
A great tip and something I really didn't think about before this video: sunscreen for the hands and feet on a regular basis! I only ever apply sunscreen to those areas when I'm at the pool or beach but it makes sense - they typically get sun exposure everyday! Also, investing in SPF clothing - YES! I need to do that ASAP! IG: @nancy.anne
One tip that I have is to annotate the date u start ur sunscreen, and something that I learned from this video is to apply more sunscreen than you think you need! (My Instagram : @danniaisbang)
Actually, I can’t seem the trust some brands claiming with high broad spectrum since the whole Purito thing happened. How can it be that we claim that they need to be tested but still somehow got away with their claim to be 50 spf broad spectrum while actually being 19 spf?? How can we trust other brands?
Oh yeah the same with Nars smooth and protect primer which some reviews said they feel that the spf coverage isint 50spf as they claim
I am glad you mentioned a little more than 2 fingers because I use 3 fingers on sunscreen!! @rinnbot
❣️Favorite tip is to apply sunscreen 15-20 mins before exposure and good to know the guideline of 20-30 mins out there is just making sure product has time to penetrate into skin bcs each skin is different @reni.hanh
Best fact about sunscreen: wear it everyday and wear the one that feels the best for you! @kshorttt
I loved the tip about having an easy to apply sunscreen to nab those easy to forget spots, like the ankles!!!! I always forget my feet!!! Especially if I choose to wear pants!
I also loved hearing about how little changes in formulation has great effects on the sunscreen, the texture, finish, efficacy, and shelf stability!
One of my favorite tips for sensitive skin is to apply Vaseline in areas where sunscreen hurts or burns your skin so your skin will not aversely respond to the sunscreen but you can enjoy full protection!
My Instagram handle is @elizmarief
Don’t forget the toes! To avoid burnt sausages 😂 also I’m glad drugstore cheap sunscreen is ok. I would love to spend more money on nicer textures but can’t afford it rn. @akhilaka
Do i need to reapply sunscreen even when i’m at home?
What if in the morning i already took a shower and did my skincare after that went for swimming for an hour. After swimming, should i redo all the skincare again or just use sunscreen??? Please help 🥺🥺🥺
If you're just at home without being in regular direct sunlight, you're probably fine not reapplying. After swimming outside, I'd reapply the sunscreen for sure. Doing more steps just depends on your needs and convenience factors.
@@RachelDee thaaannkksss 😘😘😘 because when i googled it always come up with reapply every 2 hours for spf 50. It caused acne breakout on my face 😭😭😭 i reapply 3 times in a day at home. So i just wondering if im at home should i reapply bcoz i live in apartment so i got window (not tinted).
Oh yes part ll! I never knew that I should go for a spf between 30 to 50 cuz in store they alway have some like 70 or even 100 So I use to think that the bigger number works better🤨
@random.stufffzz
The bigger number does work better, but usually they're a lot thicker and unpleasant to wear, so people end up putting not enough on to achieve the SPF rating advertised. SPF 30-50 is a great zone that compromises good protection with not feeling too suffocated by the stuff!
Best anti-aging tip is sunscreen on ears, neck and other areas besides the face! @fanniepan
Best anti aging to tint your car windows, could not agree more. I learned about UV window tint back in the early 2000s and my entire family has gotten all of our cars tinted with UV tint since. Saves your skin, saves your leather, keeps it cool and comfy. Best tip for sure!
IG: @Jeff.Yau
I really appreciate them mentioning drug store sunscreen works just as good. Sunscreen tends to be expensive, especially when you factor in reapplication.
@myt625
I heard you guys talking about cleaning your face with small circular motion, but when applying moisturizer or sunscreen you guys say to pat it in. Why do we need to pat it in ? Please respond. 😐💜
Because the heat in our hands will make it more absorbed into the skin and makes it more effective. Like sometimes some types of sunscreen will be creasy or have flake if we rub it. It"s my experience.
Rubbing or pulling on your face while doing skincare adds up over time when it's something we do every single day, so it's best to avoid it as much as possible, e.g. by patting dry with a towel, and gently pressing in products. The pressing can also help products absorb better. The reason why cleansing is an exception is because you can't make it work without a little bit of rubbing. The cleansing molecules actually have to make physical contact with the dirt and oil molecules in order to attach them and pick them up, so you have to do that rubbing to make sure that the cleanser is moved around a lot and gets plenty of opportunities to make that contact. The gentlest method for cleansing is to rub the product together in your hands first if you need to foam it up or soften/melt it, and then rub it all over your face in small, gentle circles. Be gentle while rinsing too, get as much cleanser off by pressing the water into your face and then follow up with gentle rubbing if you need to remove any last traces. Pat dry with a towel or even air dry if you want.
@@ngocthudo1759 Wow thank you for telling me this, this will help In sorry for that experience. I'll be sure to tap and pat on. 👍
@@simonsaysism Thank you!!! This is so helpful I never knew about this helpful skin care method, I'll be sure to try this I never knew about this I'll do this happily. 👏😊
I think it has more to do with getting an even layer. For sunscreen to be effective you need an even layer everywhere, otherwise you may end up having areas that have not enough protection. You can spread it out carefully, but then pat it into an even layer. For this reason I don't like when people say to rub it in...you don't actually want to do that. I spread it out evenly then pat and let it dry down.
Hi!! I'm 16.... skin type "combination " with acne spots and hyperpigmentation around mouth, I'm also using adapalene 3times in a week to treat these problems.... so yesterday I buy a sunscreen called "solaris" spf 60 with two main ingredients (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) this is the only sunscreen which I can afford ... Idk what happened to my skin 😩 it started feeling little burning and irritating around my nose.... .. the thing is cerave, cetaphil etc are not available in my country (Pakistan) and I really wanna use sunscreen.... 😥
It may have alcohol in the formulation, it causes burning and stinging for me. This sunscreen doesn’t seem to be available here so I can’t check the ingredients.
