- TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF A DROP-DOWN MENU WITH WINDOWS SNIPPING TOOL - PREVIEW SNIP & SKETCH // If you have ever had trouble getting a screen grab of a hover menu or popup window that disappears, this video shows you how to capture that screenshot using the Snipping Tool in Windows. We also take a look at the different screen capture options with the Windows 10 Snip & Sketch tool. This technique (using the delay) comes in handy when you are creating a presentation or quick reference guide and need to show your audience a snapshot of a menu or window that only appears when you hover or click on it (but disappears when you try and get a screenshot).
**Be sure to watch my video on HOW TO CREATE A QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE and see an example of when you would use this Snipping Tool feature: • Make a Quick Reference...

Use Shift+Windows+S as a Shortcut to the Sketch. This way you can get a hover state captured without setting a delay ;)

Thanks for sharing this piece of demonstration, quite informative. Can you pls let me know if we can take screenshot of the whole page that we are viewing? Is that possible, what is the short cut method for it? I mean the panoramic view horizontally or vertically.
In the Windows Snipping Tool, select the Mode drop-down and select "Full-screen Snip" and that will let you take a picture of your whole desktop. You can also do a "Window Snip" if you just want to capture the application you are in (like a Word document or Web Browser) and that won't include your start menu on your desktop. Hope this helps!
@@SharonSmith Noted! Thanks
Excellent! Was trying to capture VM Workstation menus. Not the VM windows themselves. But the menus for the VM Manager interface. When Workstation is selected it basically takes over the keyboard. hot keys don't exist. This enables me to turn the screen shot on then go into the menu and select my drop down. Then the screen shot hits and nothing Workstation can do about it.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
How do you snippet on a long page, where you need to press page down
Hi! You can do a scrolling snip with Snagit (from TechSmith) but unfortunately you can't do it with the Windows Snipping tool. There may be some other free tools out there that can do a scrolling snip. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos.
Another way - open snipping tool, click New, press ESC, open pop-up, press CTRL+Prt Scr, snip pop-up window, save snip.
Great tip, Mike! Thanks for sharing!
not working for me...the hover over shows up but when i try it with the snipping tool it doesn't show up
oH! its working now...after clicking the delay, I then had to click on the window to "activate" it and not just hover over...thanks for the video.
