- Free camping in Ohio - Join us on a video tour of Sawmill Road Campground, Jesse Owens State Park in Ohio. This is a primitive camping, boondocking, and dry camping area with numbered sites that are available on a first come, first-served basis. There are multiple vault toilets and trash dumpsters at the campground. Registration is required at the on-site kiosk. Free camping at the Sawmill Road Campground is limited to 14 days. There is no Verizon or AT&T cellular service at this location. This campground is former AEP Recreation Land. Grid coordinates are as follows: 39.7366, -81.6899

At Camp D (Sawmill) the campsite at the covered bridge is on the other side of the bridge. It is a very large grassy area surrounded by cattails.

Thank you for doing these videos. I have a larger teardrop trailer, so small sites aren't as big an issue for me. Living in the Columbus area, I've been wanting to get some much needed me time at one of these parks. Google earth is great, but your videos are so much better! Thanks again!

We drove thru this campground to check it out in May 2021 while staying at one of the other campgrounds at Jesse Owens.. We saw a camp set up on the other side of the covered bridge. A bit more private than camping in front of the bridge. Bet that is a prime spot and hard to get.
I believe that campsite is the same one at the covered bridge. You have to drive over the bridge to get to it. All these campsites are first-come, first served. These former AEP recreation lands are truly special as free big rig friendly camping is scarce in the East. Thanks for watching! Lou
@@LivingOurDreamNow There's a barrier on the bridge to prevent cars from going on it. I walked across with the dogs and saw some set up back there. They must have hiked in.

No permit or reservation required. It's first come, first serve. You may stay up to 14 days per site. There is no electric hook-up, you must provide your own water and firewood. The campgrounds have vault toilets.
