- I am sharing tips on how to paint on a large sheet of a watercolor paper. I am painting on Arches 22X30. This paper didn't fit on my table so I had to paint on a floor of my studio.

Hi Maria I have to admit I have suffered with that fear of getting started with a blank sheet of paper in front of me when I first started I think looking at a blank sheet that size I would have been petrified lol. I must say I loved the misty moody look and I'm impressed with the sheer size of it. Until next time take care and stay safe.
That is beautiful Maria, thank's for sharing your art..
Yeah I saw those cute little brushes and thought DANG because I'm imagining needing to dump a pot of water onto the paper and squeezing paints onto large plates to get anything down. I saw this one huge AMAZING watercolour of a teensy part of an elephant face today... I studied it a while. The artist opted to use a VERY rough paper, painted over the deckled edges, and up close, it doesn't look like an elephant at all, but go across the room and it's amazing. The texture of the paper was definitely used to get the wrinkly elephant skin done, and I detected at LEAST 10 colors when I was up close.
And no tube greys, best I could tell. Several blues, sepias and earth tones (you can pick out the cool sepia from the ochres), and MAYBE the artist ironed out the tusk because that one part of the painting is FLAT when you get up close, and untouched paper except for the edges of the tusk (and even there, it's very little pigment).
I have no idea how it was done but it was just regular rough Arches behind glass with no matting: just the glass, the frame, and a backing board. It was just magnificent. Doc paid *bank* for that and still probably got a huge bargain!
(I'm not a fan of rough pressed though so, nice to look at, but most of my thoughts were about getting a smaller painting I've done sized up to a heavy full sheet of cold pressed.) LOVELY video ❤️I have a better idea of what I'm getting in to!
You did so well with this Maria. Superb ! Thank you. Alan
such a nice painting 😍i would say you are the future artist😅😍
This is very impressive!! Beautiful landscape with watercolor!!
🌹🌸☃️Thank you so much 😀
The drawing is wonderful. I am fully prepared to imitate as soon as I figure out a foolproof way to get back up on my feet after crouching down for half an hour, if not longer.
Thank you so much 🌹🌸☃️You can do it😃
lol! ahhh, yes. Getting down? No problem. Getting up? big problem - spirit is willing but the knees think I have lost my mind!

Thank you Maria x
Thank you Geoff☺️🌸☺️
Loved It ... ❤
Thank you☃️🌸
Head to the home improvement store and pick up some nice big brushes for water/washes.. also you can paint the trees and foliage a lot faster with the chisel/corner of a big flat brush giving more work time. Some bowls/containers would be easier than a traditional palette . Premix as much as possible.
Wow Maria !!!! Your painting is soooooooooooo beautiful
I am your biggest fan

Grazie😍🌸
I painted few paintings on really big papers. LOVE it :D
🤗🌸That is awesome!Thank you Laylla!
Your paintings are always inspirational. Thank you for taking us through your process. It’s encouraging for us novices to see how you handle your paper, water, brushes and paints. In all your demos, I cannot remember you using a spray bottle. Just wondering if you prefer to use brushes and why. When I paint larger, I often have trouble with the subsequent washes lifting some of the colors, particularly the greens. Any suggestions, please? Also I love the portrait of Allie. I hope you will give us a tutorial for portraits sometime. Blessings to you and your family!
Best painting

In next video can you make the painting of forest please
Nastrojowo. Pięknie 👍
Dziekuje🤗☃️❄️
Beautiful Maria! Would it be less risky to use a spray bottle for the subsequent wetting, so as not to disturb the previous washes?
I loved this! Beautiful painting, as well! I have to admit, I was thinking she's gonna need a bigger palette 😀! Honestly large sheets scare me - I'll never mix enough paint and cannot duplicate it to match (but could blend it in). I guess you were unable to use a piece of glass underneath the paper that would help with wetness? Or maybe there was a piece of glass. Anyway, I really enjoyed this lesson. It was a different take on the subject of big sheets - you got onto the floor with the paper and that was cool! Thank you, Maria
Hi Cassie, thank you so much for your kind words🥰This was different and it was so much fun! I didn't have any piece of glass underneath the paper. I had a cutting board for papers, it was big enough. Under that - a trash bag😅 I know.. that small palette 😂But I quickly learnt to use a larger one, also larger brushes!
That was an interesting experiment Maria I enjoyed that!! I doubt I'm going to try it myself though as I couldn't possibly paint that quickly!!! Seriously though how long did it take to complete?
Thank you Rosemary 🌹🌸🤗It took me less than 1 hour (minus all the time I had to wait for the paper to dry)
What board are you using to tape down the large paper? I’m having a hard time finding one in my area.
Thank you Maria, an excellent tutorial 😊
Might I ask what you do with a large finished image like that i.e. how do you hang it? When I’ve done large watercolours (2ft square) I’ve done them on stretched canvass coated with ground.
I’m a little wary about framing such a large painting because of weight - and cost.
Thank you in advance should you pick this question up and answer ☺️
Hi Vincent, thank you so much 🙋🏻♀️
When I do these large pieces I either replace the painting I already have on the wall, white frame inside 22X30in painting (right now I have a sea turtle) or I glue the paper to the cut out side of a carton box. I use a gloss gel medium by liquitex. I don't frame a lot of these because they are too big, I have to be in love with a painting if I am going to frame it again lol I will put them up sometimes on my shelf unit, and once I paint something new, the old one goes into a storage 😅
Thank you for all the wonderful videos and tutorials. Is there a place where I can ask you for a technical advice?
Maria, what board did you use to tape the paper too? Cardboard?
Hi Mary, at first when I was painting the landscape I placed the paper over a cutting board mat, after that, I glued it to the cardboard 🤗
👌😍
pretty yes where did u find the paint board that u used to paint with enjoyable picture maria.
hi, this is actually a cutting board for paper, I found it at Blick's. Thank you!☃️❄️

🌹🌸☃️Thank you! 😊
Ur daughter painting is real n cute!
🙋🏻♀️Thank you so much 😀
María, me ha gustado mucho ver cómo trabajas en formato más grande, es muy diferente al tamaño de papel más pequeño. Lo haces con una libertad encantadora.
Por favor, más. 😘🎨❤️
I hope you don't mind I want to recreate this
Good day maria! Always good info,, techniques. Camera mounted on table? Have you as much room to work in new place? be nice to be young, flexible; my knees would reallydown that long. Great piece of work, colours restful. You look healthy, hope family same. San Mateo made news, people had enough of this cancelling our right to live as needed. Stay safe, take care...
Good morning Sir! Thank you so much ☺️❄️It was a fun project and yes, I had a camera mounted off one of the shelf. My studio is very small and a bit dark but I will manage for a while 😉
Thank you for the update. Will check on San Mateo ☃️
